johnnyzip84
This should be enough to put off construction and let the Lot Niners™ continue for another 5+ years. It's catchy. I like it. I'm designing a shirt in the off season since I can't get my Wagner jersey. If you end up taking orders, you know I'd be in for at least 2! RootforRoo44
More student housing to be built downtown. Good news for both UA and downtown. Hopefully the amount of units now available will start to make the prices level off for off-campus housing. Some places have started to raise rent to levels that are a little ridiculous for how nice they are/what neighborhood's they are in.

And hopefully it leads to more developers to replace some of the older housing with more modern places in order to keep up. Or even better some more shops open up downtown and continue transforming it into a place to be.
ZachTheZip
Dr Proenza details some new construction plans. Biggest thing is a new residence hall. No particular location is planned yet. It will be south of campus. He mentioned "southeast" or "southwest". Southeast would mean either Lot 9 or on Brown Street next to Memorial Field. Southwest probably means the location of the Townhouses. Also interesting to hear about a problem with the Memorial Hall demolition due to a bad contractor. zippy5
Guess no one noticed, but CSL Plasma moved.Where did it move to if you care to share. I drove past it a week or two ago. A few streets south of exchange...next to 76. Came back after break and the signs on the "old" building are gone along with any activity around it. zippy5
Seriously though, if they put in a cool bar/restaurant there, exchange would be pretty sweet. Pat's pub just opened, it's a cool little place. Along with BW3's, Pint's, Thursday's, Manny's should be opening soon...nice little "hub" of activity there on campus to go along with the downtown scene. ZachTheZip
The Pizza Hut across from City hospital is moving locations to be closer to campus. They're moving to the other side of Route 8 on Market. This is interesting because it's a sign that in the battle of two gigantic influences on the area, UA has more allure for business than the mega-hospital and all its staff. I thought Summa already owned the old Country Diner. If they have the Pizza Hut property also, maybe they already have plans. Summa has deeper pockets than UA right now. EDIT: I checked the tax maps and Summa does indeed own those properties.
UAZipster0305
Megabus coming to Akron. This is great news for UA students and the downtown area in general because of cheap yet classy this service is. Much different from Greyhound. I will likely take it from Pittsburgh to Akron and back just for regular weekend trips home. I will likely save over $50 per trip.
Dr Z
Megabus coming to Akron. I have never tried this, but I know a reliable friend (40 year old professional) that has, and she liked it. She said if you are going to drink alcohol, do it discreetly because they will kick you off if caught. I will likely take it from Pittsburgh to Akron and back just for regular weekend trips home. I will likely save over $50 per trip. This is great! By the way, I e-mailed megabus and suggested this exact idea a few months ago. They said it was a "good idea" and I never heard back from them. It looks like they liked my idea! From Pittsburgh you can take the bus up through the entire northeast. I see some road trips in my not so distant future!

I was mapping the exact same thing at lunch. I planned a Hamptons trip that will now cost me $20 to get there instead of $400. Now I have more money to spend at Main beach and the BBQ at Turtle Crossing.

The new apartments would rent for about $700 a month per bed, compared to $600 a month at 22 Exchange. Maybe it will help lower prices at other locations, just not in the new housing. ZachTheZip
The 401 Lofts get an official greenlight. I question the wisdom in putting a surface pool in the middle of downtown, but if these things fill up as fast as 22 Exchange then south Downtown will be transformed into living, breathing downtown neighborhood and a place people want to go on weekends.
