This great! I don't remember top level talent committing to the Zips early. It seemed that the Zips would get some great talent that would slip through at the end. I like the fact that these athletes are ready to commit early. Great pick up!

Another coveted local kid before the season kicks off speaks wonders. I see some of the recruits we got this week and at some level I see JD (after hopefully going 9-3 this year) thinking what an advantage I have for the next couple of years and being the guy to take us to the next level. I also feel good that with the last 2 classes, all or almost all of these kids will be eligible from the get go. Thanks for the update.

This news just made my day. And now I'll wait to see what the OSWho fans have to say....especially when it appears they thought their only competition for this kid were other Big 11 teams . I love the "favors OSU" comment :lol::lol: But remember....Akron can't compete for a player who wants to go to Cowlumbus....who would ever think such a thing?

I remember posting months ago that Akron and OSU don't compete for recruits because of the large gap in the level of media exposure between the two schools. Apparently I was wrong. This is huge for us since now we can legitimately say that we recruit top-level talent.

I think that if he gets an offer from Northwestern, he is gone.http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?...west_Recruiting

Schrock names favoriteWide receiver Anthony Schrock (Wadsworth, Ohio) has scholarship offers from Akron, Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan."I'm looking at those three," Schrock said. "And I'm headed to Northwestern July 30. I'm hoping to get an offer from them, if I perform like I can at their camp."The 6-3, 185-pounder caught 32 passes and seven touchdowns during his sophomore season. He caught 38 passes and six touchdowns last season."Right now I really like all three of the offers I have so far," Schrock said. "Then of course I like all the Big Ten schools. But I'd have to say Akron is my favorite. They were the first ones to offer me and they are opening up a brand new stadium."

Luckily for Zips fans...you tend to be wrong quite a bit.

Any idea what factors resulted in him picking the Zips?

Let's take a step back here. He was only offered by Akron, Bowling Green, and Eastern Michigan. OSU never offered. In reality, we were competing with Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan.

Nice Article on Anthony Schrock today. He is happy to be coming to UA and playing close to home in the new stadium. Let's hope even more other quality local athletes think like him.
Let's hope the coaching situation doesn't scare him and others away from Akron.
Sounded to me like he was coming for the facilities and school anyway. (oh wait, facilities don't matter on where a player goes)

Partly, he could also be coming to UofA to play close to home. Maybe he would have come to UofA even if they were still playing in the RB.What I am most impressed about is his discussion of winning. The kid wants to win first and foremost. It looks to me like he wants to win more than playing in a new stadium. That is the kind of kid we need. I don't want kids who are coming to UofA to play in a new stadium. I want kids who are driven to win and will dedicate themselves to winning. We might have one here. Time will tell.

My sons are teammates of his, and I've had to bite my lip for a long time over this. It hurts, I'm glad it's over now ;) You don't know how hard that was to keep quiet about. It's all true. The sweater vest was in town at least twice. We could have seen him on TV this year, but the annual Wadsworth-Medina broadcast got pulled this year because we beat the crap out of them the past couple years. So no TV for us.

OK I give up. What did you have to bite your lip about until today? The fact that he committed to Akron back in July or something else?

He mentioned the facilities, the coach being a former NFL receivers coach, all the starting WR's graduating. Full ride and able to commute. Family can come watch easily.
OSU never offered.
Not entirely true. Rewing a few months...

It's still not an entirely done deal. But since it's being made public, that's different. There are things in the works that just can't be thrown out on a forum like this. In football and in other sports. I don't talk about that stuff outside the team.

All right then. It's good to know we have you keeping an eye on the situation for us. We look forward to hearing that you can't tell us about any other three month old "news." :thumb:
