zff Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 It's been a while since the last update and camp opens next week. Does anybody know the status of Ryan Bain? Or will Dale Martin be ready for the opener in Happy Valley? Any other post worthy news? Quote

Captain Kangaroo Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 It's been a while since the last update and camp opens next week. Does anybody know the status of Ryan Bain? Or will Dale Martin be ready for the opener in Happy Valley? Any other post worthy news?Ryan Bain is running, and lifting weights. Looks like the Zips will take it slow with him, starting him off as a situational player.Dale Martin is pretty much fully recovered. He looks great.Alex Allen is "about 92% recovered." He expects to be at 100% by Penn State.DaVoe Torrence did not spend his off-season eating burritos with Lindale White. He's looking better-than-advertised. Quote
Dr Z Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 They will be practicing tomorrow at the new stadium. Hope we can make out some stuff on the web cam. Quote
Blue & Gold Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 That's a top-shelf stable of running backs! Captain, is this a little inside info, or did you get to see a practice? If you saw a practice, who would you presently rate (subject to change) our #1RB? #2 & #3? Quote
Zipmeister Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 Vegas has the over/under number of game plays Bain will be in this year as 1. I'll take the under. Quote

gozips19 Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 would love some updates on the back seven. to me this is the biggest question. who will start and who will fill out the two deep. how do the safeties look since they switched spots. who takes over for grant and d will? lots of young talent but you never know how it will play out. ZachTheZip Posted August 5, 2009 Report Posted August 5, 2009 We'll hear more soon. Today was move-in day for football players. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 The GoZips article (link) points out a few players who were lauded by Dan Bailey for their workout efforts over the summer.LinkyI'm starting to think that James Harvey might be a major contributor in 2009. The roster has him at 6'4" 290 LB now, and if he's been a beast in the weight room (as implied by Bailey's observations) then he could make huge gains on the field. He played pretty well before hurting his arm last year. Maybe with the coaches being cautious with Bain, he (Ryan) becomes more of a situation player, at least until (or if) he ever gets to be 100%.A couple of other notes from the article. Bruce must be more or less healthy, since Bailey singled him out as well. AND as we figured, the web cams will be turned off today during practice (as they will for all practices). Quote

Dr Z Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Thanks G, makes sense I guess. Probably couldn't tell much anyway.GlenOak's Adam Steiner posted a vertical jump of 42 inches!!! Wasn't Jamal Ball in SI with a 41 inch vert. Quote

Blue & Gold Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 We've simply gotta search for ways to utilize this guy's athletic ability. We can't just use him to long snap, can we? Besides, he only weighs 215. Won't he get creamed on the line? Quote

Zipsrifle Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 Though I really hope for the best, I feel that Bain will never be at 100% for us. I think he will play as it sounds like his talent makes him MAC starter material even while injured. I just hope the guy is able to fully recover and not be in pain for the rest of his life. Quote
