Quickzips
Word is that in addition to Stevie Taylor, 6'8" PF and 2010 recruit Dakotah Euton was on campus over the weekend. Euton originally committed to Kentucky in 2007, but won't be going there now with the coaching change. Scout has us offering him a scholarship already. Certainly interesting to hear about this, particularly since both of our 2010 scholarships are already verbally claimed.

Quickzips
Actually he sounds like exactly the type of player we could really use. Here are a few excerpts from his ESPN recruiting bio.He is a big, strong, wide body, with great hands and a soft touch around the basket.shoots the ball well with effective range out to the three point arc."Sacrifice to get a teammate open," "lay some wood," "Knock his socks off," all phrases that coaches use to encourage players to set screens in an offense. Most players find a way to "slip" the screen and get them selves a shot. Whichever college is lucky enough to land Euton for next season, will not ever have to worry about getting shooters open with this "wall" of a man at their side. He is flat out nasty inside the lane as he bangs, seeks out contact on both ends, and can finish through it. he is a very good rebounder on both ends of the floor. He is also exceptionally skilled big man with a high basketball I.Q. He is an excellent shooter who can stretch the opposing defense to the NBA three-point line. He handles the ball easily and likes to face up from the perimeterEuton is extremely productive as a player. He can put the ball on the floor, can finish in traffic and is a very good rebounder. Valpo Zip
That's what we need, nonathletic players.Athletic is a relative term. I don't think any MAC players/recruits (except maybe Zeke Marshall) will be considered athletic by Calipari's standards. So what do we do? Shall we stop offering scholarships?KD offered the kid who is in the process of making his decision. When commenting, let's keep in mind that odds are he will google his own name and find a way to this thread.

Zip Watcher
Euton would be a nice get for the program. You don't put up the kinds of numbers he has in big-time AAU tournaments without a high skill level.I dream of the day when the skill and talent of the Zips gets to the point where McClanahan is only a 2, not swinging down to the 3 .. and Cvetinovic is a 3 man, with bigs like Marshall, Bardo, McKnight, Swiech .. maybe Euton, and the 2 other 2010 signees roam the middle.Having an athletic, skilled front line that goes no smaller than 6-8, 6-8, 7' .. that would be a nightmare for most conference opponents. The key to this happening will be having 2 of the 3 bigs on the floor able to guard smaller / quick players. It might mean Zeke actually guarding the 4 rather than the 5, and Nik being the 3 should be ok (see the game films of him checking Bramos last season). Also, one of the 3 has to be able to shoot from outside consistently, and one has to be able to score inside consistently. An inside out guy like Euton would be a big key to this. I think Nik becomes that type of player over time as well.It would be really fun to see KD force the matchups the opposite way than in years past. Instead of being smaller .. go big, and pound the ball inside again and again. The bigs learn how to kick out like Woody did .. and now your guards are shooting open set shots.Good times ahead. Dave in Green
Here's a link to a story in which Euton's father lists the schools from which his son has offers, and that he planned to visit five schools before making his choice in November. It's a big plus that UA made his short list of schools to visit.Jerry Tipton on UK BasketballI also found another story where the father visited a UK sports forum where his son was being trashed. He says that he has now stopped reading all sports forums. I'd like to think he and other parents of recruits would be able to read Zips Nation without seeing the kind of offensive trash-talking that goes on in so many other sports forums. It's not an NCAA violation to gain a competitive recruiting advantage by impressing the parents of recruits with the civility of a school's sports fan base.Parents & Internet Forums
Quickzips
Do we have another scholarship? The short answer is no.As of right now we had two scholarships to offer for 2010 (due to the graduation of C.McKnight and Conyers). Both of those scholarships have verbal commitments attached to them (Egner and Green). If I'm thinking correctly in order to pick up Euton we would either have to rescind an offer to one of those two or we would have to have another player leave the program. I suppose it is possible that one of our guards would look to transfer out. We do have a log-jam at the guard spots right now and it wouldn't be a total surprise if one of the talented youngsters saw the writing on the wall as far as playing time. The other possibility I could think of would be if Daryl Roberts isn't granted or doesn't want (his commitment to the program has been a question in the past) his extra year of eligibility for '10-'11. I think that goes over about everything. Hope it helps.

Quickzips
The more I read about Dakotah the more he reminds me of the Indiana Pacer's Troy Murphy. Murphy is a relatively unathletic and not especially good looking 6'11" white guy who starts at PF for the Pacer's. Despite his limitations he is a ferocious rebounder who managed to finish second in the NBA last year in rebounding only to Dwight Howard. At the same time he also managed to hit 2.2 3 pointers per game while averaging 45 percent from beyond the arch (3rd most effective 3 point shooter in the NBA). Everything I keep seeing on Euton has all of those same qualities. Deceptively good rebounder with a good face up game and a shot that extends out beyond the 3-point arch. I personally love the idea of lining him up next to Zeke. It seems like they would compliment each other very well.

Freedom of speech is something we all hold dear. But we should all be accountable for what we say. If someone falsely and maliciously yells "Fire!" in a crowded theatre and people are injured or even killed in a stampede to the exits, that person should be prosecuted and punished if found guilty. Anonymous people on internet forums often feel liberated to say whatever comes to mind with no fear of being held accountable. Thoughtful moderating is sometimes the only thing that stands between responsible freedom of speech and total anarchy.
