'37 .. this is the 4th thread of yours that has been moved in the last two days. It's not a huge problem, but it does create some work for the moderators .. please try to be aware of what forum you're in when you start threads. As you know from the soccer threads .. you're posting things people are interested in.You'll get more action if they're in the best place. This one for example goes in football .. not soccer.Go Zips!!!!

:P or crossing guard...Seriously though, any moderator who doesn't go all nazi over mistakes and kindly offers guidance is the best kind regardless of their resumêlilroodude, why would a trade like that be made? I assume you are playing off Cribbs noteriety to get Hixon who can probably help the Browns on offense more?

I would make that deal. Trade Cribbs and his seemingly one dimensional game and his threats if he doesn't get renegged for a pure reciever who can actually CATCH the ball. And not a bad return guy himself.I don't know if the Giants make that. Throw in Quinn maybe...

The Clowns have only 5 guys on the roster that I think to be difficult to part with in trade, Cribbs is one of them:Rogers (would start on every team in the league)Thomas (probably on 26/30)Cribbs (field position matters .. it beat the Bills)Zastudil (maybe start on most teams .. field position matters)Pontbriand (ever see a bad snap from this guy? ever? .. see: field position is important)The way the Browns become competitive to a 4 to 6 win season is going to be by playing disciplined defense and winning the field position battle. It may not be pretty, and Grossi, Shaw, Pluto .. etc. will hate it and Mangini for it .. but with the talent disparity they're facing, not making mistakes and pinning teams back deep in their own territory are the ways to beat the really crappy teams. Like the Bills, those teams (OAK, KC & DET are on the schedule) will beat themselves if you just give them enough opportunities to do so.The punt coverage & punt return games are about all the Browns have going for them at the moment. Says a lot about the team when the punter is the best thing going for it .. but Zastudil was on fire Sunday.Go Zips!

I agree on the need for a return man. How do you rate Hixon vs. Cribbs?IMO (just MO) is we need a downfield threat to spread out the defense and open the running game. 2 for 17? It might even get us in the end zone against the Bills. But pie in the sky, I doubt the Bills make that trade.

Reasons I'd make that trade:1) Abram Elam and Cribbs are both Flushes. I want a Flush free team. :puke: 2) Cribbs can only return. Hixon can return, IMO, almost as well as Cribbs. Hixon can also run routes and catch the ball. Hixon is better IMO. 3) HIXON IS A ZIP! WE NEED A ZIP ON THE BROWNS!

I would never trade Cribbs if I was the Browns GM. He is the only player left on the Browns that you have to game plan against. If I was the Browns GM I would listen to anybody, and I mean anybody that would get me any pick (or multiple picks) above the fifth round for Rodgers. He does't fit into a long term plan and is a distraction. Just about every team in the league knows this, and that's why you won't get much for him. BUT you only have to convince one team that he can help them in the playoffs. Hixon has some bad luck with the quality of receivers that play on his team, but I would never wish another Zip has to play a down for the mistake on the lake. DH is better off where he is.IF DH got half the receptions on the team last week, that would amount to 1.

It seems to me to come down to this....Do you want a good return man who isn't much help as a receiver?Or...do you want...in my opinion...almost as good of a return man, and a technically solid receiver?I understand what Zipwatcher is saying about field position, and maybe their best road to 4-5 wins IS to play field position football. But, I think they should seize an opportunity to score more points. In the long haul, I don't expect the Browns to have a defense good enough to play field position football. And really, the Browns need a QB who completes more than half of his passes. Unfortunately, they had one who completed far more than half of his passes with a bad OL, and no running game....but they traded him, apparently when they thought Brady would become "the man". And...yep....I agree with not having any Flushes :screwks:

  • 2 weeks later...

(last week) http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20091...?Title=Blowout-Lost in the 48-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints was a record-setting performance by Domenik Hixon of the Giants. The receiver-returnman had 303 total yards in breaking Joe Scott's 61-year-old franchise record by 24 yards. Hixon had 230 yards on seven kickoff returns, including a 68-yarder and a 45-yarder to set up a touchdown and field goal, respectively. He returned two punts for 27 and 24 yards, with the latter setting up another score. Hixon also caught three passes for 22 yards

If other receivers in New York are emerging and it looks like Hixon's time will primarily be on special teams there, then why would have to trade a player of Cribbs' caliber to get Hixon? I think there may be a way to get Domenik without it being for Cribbs when you just look at how valuable each othe players currently is to their respective teams.I do agree that Hixon would be a very nice fit in Cleveland, and I am only a so-so Browns fan. I just can't stand the other three teams in their division!
