eguins
http://www.goredbirds.com/sports/m-footbl/.../111209aaa.htmlNORMAL, Ill. - It has become common practice for the Illinois State football team to schedule a game with a NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) team. Usually those contests take place at the FBS venue, however a new deal signed by the Illinois State Athletics Department will bring a home game with Ball State to Hancock Stadium in 2013, as part of a home-and-home deal signed between the two schools.Illinois State is a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference.Ball State is a member of the Mid-American Conference. Please explain to me how the MAC team is allowed to go play at the MVFC's stadium??? Whenever YSU requested a 2 for 1 deal with Akron, you folks said it is not allowed to happen because MAC teams are not allowed to play at FCS stadiums...I'd love to hear your explanation to this one! ZachTheZip
Check the MAC board. Nobody knows how they got away with it. Some (crazy) people are saying that ISU is moving up to the FBS.Perhaps there was a policy shift with the new commissioner coming in, but it hasn't been reflected in the actual written conference rules. It's something to keep an eye on. I attended the YSU game 2 weeks ago and there were no more than 5,000 butts in the seats. And it was a key game (7-1 South Dakota State). No one in Mahoning or Trumbull County cares about YSU football anymore. So YSU brings 2,000 fans to Akron? Big whup. Why would Akron travel to a marginal 1-AA school's field? For $150,000? We can get $800,000 going to Happy Valley.Keep scheduling Clarion and Slippery Rock. That's YSU's level.
eguins
Nobody showed up cause nobody likes our coach. The game on Saturday will be empty too. Tons of people refuse to go to a game until Mr. Heacock is fired. Luckily for YSU, he is going to be let go in 2 weeks!People show up at our games if we are winners. We had a few big turnouts to begin the season, but when we lost in front of nearly 17,000 against Missouri State, a game everyone felt we should have won, all hell broke loose. The call in show after the games is dedicated to Heacock haters.Come read what we think of him:www.letsgoguins.comBTW: We don't have a Division 2 team on our schedule this year or next year. We haven't played SR in a good 4 seasons and Clarion since the Tressel days. BTW: Tressel was the one that would schedule 2 Division 2 teams per year, not Heacock. zip37
Hey Quins-- unlike some of these clowns, I wish YSU nothing but good coaches and a winning season [except if/when youse guys play the Zips] the school has enough minuses being located where it is, if it were in Boardman or similar place it would be helpful. The last time I was there Federal Street had weeds growing thru the cracks in the paving. Unfortunate, but it's still better than Cleveland

I read on here and JJHuddle all summer about how Akron would sell out all their home games this year and that it was a start of a new era because of Telemarketer Stadium. Fact is you guys couldn't even get 20,000 for a BIG10 team. You had at least one clearly below 10,000 fans, a friend of mine informed me, and your team sucks just as bad as our team does. God only knows what your actual attendance really is. It's awful pathetic a city of 220,000 people can't find 27,000 people in a 30 minutes drive to come see MAC football. While us here in Youngstown, a city of 80,000, usually gets more fans in the stands than you guys.Stambaugh Stadium is not a glorified high school stadium. ZachTheZip
There are hints that ISU is looking to move up. The game is in 2013, which fits the NCAA time line of 2014 ending the moratorium on teams moving to the FBS. ISU would be a provisional member. They're expanding their stadium, supposedly to 25,000 capacity and that also fits in that time line.

But I also agree with others in that Akron should not schedule YSU except if you are willing to come to our place. I think that is consistent with where our vision of the program is. It may not be yours and, hence, we don't play. Akron should only play the old I-AA teams at home. Dave in Green
I've been hearing attendance debates for decades. One confusing factor is paid attendance vs. butts in seats. A certain percentage of people with tickets do not show up for games for a variety of reasons, so paid attendance is always higher than actual attendance. If there are many no-shows, questions invariably arise about the officially announced attendance.Having attended all the games this year in the Zips' new stadium, the actual attendance appears to have been reasonably close to the officially announced paid attendance, based on the percentage of seats actually filled, the actual number of seats available, and factoring in a reasonable percentage of ticketholders who did not show up. Dave in Green
Announced attendance last night was 10,927, and there clearly weren't that many in the stands. So there were obviously many no-shows.
