Temple Game Thread

Two things:1. Temple is a Big East team playing in the MAC. Welcome back to the Marshall years when they were in the MAC.2. We are the most stupid team in the country. Can a new coach coach stupid out of the players.
"Stupid is as stupid does." And boy, does we! Started off the second half by having to punt after little movement, and another spectacular punt of 34 yards.
It's more than that. Personal fouls, horrible ints, etc. Most would blame this on JD, but the players need to pull their heads out of their butts. This has been going on for long before JD got here. #11 learned in jr high school football not to throw a guy down out of bounds. Nicely learned in jr high school not to throw the ball directly to a player from the other team....the list could go on. Adjustments? Temple lines up multiple times in the second half with an unbalanced line and double slot backs to the unbalanced side. We don't move the line in that direction and they get TDs out of it. We are just an amazingly stupid team.

and i am stupid for wasting my time and money going to these games!
Yes. Until the University shows a commitment to winning (not building new buildings, but winning), you are wasting your time and money. I was planning on going to the EMU game the day after Thanksgiving because I will be visiting family in Ohio. There is no way that I will waste five hours of my weekend with my family to go watch that junk.Fair weather fans are the best type of fans because they demand winning and will not support losing. I used to go to every game even when they were bad and looking back, it was a complete waste of time. If you want to support the school financially, GOOD, send a check and go do something more productive with your time until the University decides it wants to AND takes the steps to having a winning program. Winning takes more than just building stadiums and practice facilities and it takes a Hell of a lot more than just saying you want to win.

Same old story that caused me to walk away for awhile sometime ago (after causing us to lose a great basketball coach)...Football gets the investment while soccer and basketball (women's included) are taking the right steps on the pitch and on the court. "send a check and go do something more productive with your time" ... I suggest going to Men's and Women's basketball games and PACK the Pouch for #1 Men's Soccer post-season!

I totall agree. It is totally unheartening to see the # 1 team in the nation playing in a high school soccer stadium where 500-600 fans are sitting on the bleachers and twice than number standing on the grass. Yesterday, the game went on for around 2 hours and some 50-60 year olders in front of me were complaining that they paid $10 each and they had to stand for the whole two hours in a place where they didn't even have a good viewing angle of the field. How would a casual fan feel about a stadium with no restrooms and with horrible concession stands and no where to sit?On the other side, a $61.2 Million stadium, some $15 million practice facility, a payroll of around a $1 million/year for what? total embarrassmnet on the field. I couldn't stand being in the stadium after the first half. It was totally shameful. I know most of you won't like this but part of me feels that we would have been better without a D1-A football program.

If they don't push hard THIS off season to put something better on the field, than I will totally agree with your last sentiment. What an odd thing to sit there last night in the fourth quarter. There were maybe 300 people in the stands at the end of the game. From section 210 I could hear coaches on the TEMPLE side of the field, I could hear Zips conversations, there was less energy in the place than there used to be at Rubber Bowl intramural games. The marching band was over in their spot rocking away (thank goodness for them last night!) and they were the ONLY good thing there last night. It was haunting. If I don't see some serious energy in the form of coaching staff and recruiting in this program starting within minutes after the last game I will be sorely disappointed. How could they spend so much money on facilities and not demand better on the field? Is it possible that UA could completely waste the investments made in the football program? Could the Info become a gigantic, gorgeous white elephant on the corner of Spicer and Exchange? I am afraid to answer that question right now.

I feel so badly for those young men, that they play for such an incompetent coach. but the season's results are no surprise to me. I keep asking the same question :horse: : And you were expecting what from <.500 coach?I've invested my $ and time in soccer, and am I happy!

I feel bad for the players too. You could tell so many people wanted to "boo" the coaching last night - and not a few did - but it's college and you don't want the players to get the wrong idea and mistakenly think you're booing them. Thus, the game was largely just as quiet as a funeral last night. Wow, how demoralizing. As an aside, to add to the bitter irony that has become this inaugural season @ the Info - the weather. It has been ABSOLUTELY perfect for EVERY game thus far.

Haha my family and the friends I were with stayed the entire game. We were in Section 211 opposite you.We counted a total of 17 people(including the six of us) in the upper deck late in the 4th quarter. The entire upper deck.Yesterday was pitiful. I don't know what more I can say than that.

All good questions. Here are the answers.Money on facilities and poor results? Well, when people at the University believe building buildings is the only thing you need to be successful, you get disappointed in the results. Building things is not enough. I just hope the new AD doesn't whore out the football program like Miami's AD does to support the remainder of the athletic department. If that happens, we will have one 4-8 or 3-9 season after another.Wasted investment in football? Not really. They needed a new stadium anyhow.White elephant? Yes and no. I don't think MAC sports will ever pay for themselves. All the school will do is get the money from the state to support the stadium. The school needs to stop building high end arena for sports NOW. One more for soccer and that is enough until they prove they can support them.My big question is this. Is the University REALLY willing to get a little dirty to win football games? Another question would be....What are the fans willing to do to win? Are the fans willing to get a little dirty as well?

Well, last nights poor attendance was good in one respect for me and that was to try out different seating areas for next year. To be honest, I think I like where I am in the upper deck. In the lower bowl, though you are close to the action, you can really only see 1/2 the field and concrete isn't nearly as noisy as aluminum when you stomp on it.

I hope you are wrong, but you may very well be right. The University is full of public employees. It's obvious from our nation's current financial state our public employees have no understanding of financial responsibility. Why would UofA be any different? They need to stop building now until they have a clear plan for how they are going to pay for it.
