ksu sucks Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Coach Porter is possibly being considered for the DC United Head Coaching job.http://www.tribalfootball.com/dc-united-co...ad-coach-440661 Quote
tbozeglav Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Highly informative news story... lolI think any major soccer program would be considering a coach who is leading the #1 ranked team who is undefeated this season. I just can't see him leaving anytime soon. With the new soccer stadium coming... but I cant speak on his behalf, so we'll just have to hope nothing will come of this Quote

With the new soccer stadium coming... but I cant speak on his behalf, so we'll just have to hope nothing will come of thisThat's the thing, the only thing attractive about this job is the money and its the MLS. I think Porter loves the NCAA. I think he also loves being at Akron. He has the Rowdies, a new stadium coming soon, the #1 team in the nation, and soccer is becoming huge at Akron. I hope nothing is to come of this but a mention. Let's keep Porter and become a dynasty. Quote

GoZips Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 "This season, it's hard to argue too much at first with Porter's record, leading Akron to an undefeated record and a spot in the NCAA Soccer News Topics Quarterfinals. That said, he has done that without playing a single power team from the ACC, Big-East or Pac-10 Soccer News Topics all season and receiving an utter joke of a draw from the NCAA. Since arriving in 2006, Porter's teams have only played ACC or Pac 10 Opposition five times*, going 2-3. All season, I have been saying that Akron is completely counterfeit and that they've been that way for a few years now. I think they schedule soft and I think their results in the tournament have shown that.""Utter joke of a draw?" Tell us oh Mister Wizard, who should have gotten the overall number one seed?Anyone from the ACC you can be sure."Akron is completely counterfeit." Yep, exactly what the coaches of South Florida and Stanford afterplaying the Zips. Pure counterfeit. Like they said, all you have to do to beat the sucky Zips is out score them. Twenty-two schools of the Little Sisters of the Poor have not managed to do that.Hmmm, isn't South Florida one of the Big East's better teams? And, say, isn't Stanford in the PAC-10?Did we Zips miss something here? Oh, I see, neither of them were "seeded" in the tournament. Its luck, not skill that makes all those college coaches vote Akron as the number one team. Sixteenopposing coaches are definitely wrong. Mister Wizard knows all, sees all and pees down his leg.Not to mention winning six games against the pathetically weak, limp wristed Big Ten. But, that's notvalid because the sucky Zips from the putrid Mid-American conference did not play the best Big Ten squad; NorthWorstern. What a crock of shite. Frankly, I believe this is wonderful motivational bulletin board material. Thanks, Stupo. Quote

I can't wait for the high and mighty Tar Heels (the ones who were unable to beat Northern Illinois in their own tournament) to show how much better they are than the counterfeit Zips. You're precious Aaron! Quote
MDZip Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 If you are the worrying type, I'd worry more about this -Indiana University Not To Renew Contract of Men's Soccer Coach Mike FreitagA search for Coach Freitag's successor will begin immediately. Glass expressed a strong preference for one of the many distinguished alumni of Indiana University soccer as a successor to Freitag, and noted that IU would be reaching out to a number of them.I'll bet I know where the first call goes. I think that's all that can be said.HANDS OFF OUR "DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI!" I know it's difficult to compete with one's alma mater (especially when they are a BCS school), but this is where The University of Akron needs to step up and take care of a GREAT coach it already has. I think the students, alumni, and the community are already showing Caleb (and team) all the love we can with the ever-increasing record crowds. The Zips are drawing more fans to the 2009 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament than any other team. I hope that anyone who can buys one of the SRO tickets behind the West Goal to increase the crowd size as much as possible. Quote
GoZips Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 Freitag, class of '79.Thrown under the bus. For what? Not winning back to back to back to back National Championships?Caleb needs a history lesson before IU comes calling (actually they already have). What is Mike Freitag but a distinguished IU alum that led them to a National Championship?Freitag replaced a legend in Yeagley. That shadow would fall on Caleb, too.The only thing IU has over Akron is money. And, frankly, probably not all that much money.Bad move. A young, virile coach thrown under the bus without cause for a younger coach. What for? Perhaps there is some seriously dirty laundry at IU. NCAA violation laundry?Bad part for Akron, most of Caleb's recruits would be free to follow him to IU and present IUwith a fresh National Championship for 2010. And folks think Hoosiers are hicks. As Thomas Wolff once wrote ...."you can't go home again..."I think that Caleb Porter thrives on pressure. I don't want to think about this until after the College Cup. But this is what I feared all year long. As you can see in this article, IU fans have been thinking about this since the end of their season a year ago. BTW -- the subject of this is the (only?) OTHER possible target. Should we start a "Next Akron Soccer Coach" thread? Read: http://blogs.heraldtimesonline.com/iusp/?p=2778 Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted December 3, 2009 Report Posted December 3, 2009 Should we start a "Next Akron Soccer Coach" thread?I know that was tongue-in-cheek, but the answer is "no." Not until season's end. This is a pretty cool time for Zips soccer fanatics and I'd rather keep the board focused on our National Championship run. Nothing should detract from the special thing thst's going on at Jackson Field. Quote

What are these drawings on ZN of the "plan"? Are we being bamboozled?Wistrcill and Porenza need to make a definitive statement of fact NOW.It's kind of like the Info. A lot of you knew it was happening, but the University had to keep denying it? Why? Because they have to nail down the donor and funding, they have to have the proper pomp and circumstance surrounding. I'm sure the idea is, bring everyone back after winning the National Championship, and then "wa-lah" here's a new stadium for you, "but it will take 2 phases to complete." Quote
zen Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Guys, I'm naive to Soccer and to Porter, unfortunately, but I have a hard time believing that stadium upgrades are enough to keep him around when big money starts getting waved around. He could be the greatest guy ever, but everyone has a price. Everyone. Quote
