I caught part of Frenchie's show tonight. His list in no particular order1. Mark Stoops - French has heard that Stoops is interested. I am excited about this one.2. Pat Narducci - MSU DC3. Paul Winters4. Paul Chryst- he also mentioned that Akron was one of the MAC schools that wanted Rick Chryst out5. Luke Fickell6. Terry Allen - North IowaStoops seemed like the only guy where French acknowleded hearing something, the rest were what he thought would be a list of people interested. Also, on ZipLive Wistercill said he was looking to have the new coach in the next 2-3 weeks. I say don't hire a search firm and save an extra hundred thousand. He seems like he knows what he wants.

I'm with you on this one ZB. Worth an interview. Defensive guy. Name carries some sort of weight. Area guy. Thanks for the Steve French show updates. I am in the process of hooking up the Channel Master CM 3020 in my attic over the holidays to get the show.

I remember a quote from Frenchy's show a few years ago...it went something like: "MY BIG TOE has a better chance of being Ohio State's next coach than Jim Tressel!"Thus I view the Stoops "scoop" with some skepticism. :D

YES! I was thinking of this over the weekend. I would think though, that Mark could possibly get a BCS job in another couple years, if Arizona keeps up their play of this year. Let's ask CJ Kauffman if he can put out a holler to his homeboy from Tucson. :D

I would like someone with a solid defensive background. I've always felt that MAC schools have been able to put up points, but their opponents just put up more. I think a great D could go a long way. Also, I don't like the idea of grabbing a washed up BCS head coach. If they weren't successful at a bigtime program, what makes you think they will have success recruiting and developing players with "lesser" talent in the MAC? Give me someone on the rise. A tough find, but look at what Brian Kelly did for CMU....well worth it even after they leave.

I agree with this completely. No BCS guys, unless they have already proven to have success with limited resources.

Another deterrent to Stoops coming to coach at UA is the fact that he's a Youngstown Cardinal Mooney alum. Seeing how UA treated Reno Ferri, also a Cardinal Mooney alum, I have to believe getting Stoops will be an impossible sell.Wonder how the investigation into our recruiting violations is going, anyhow? How will we get ANY coach to interview with such major sanctions looming?

If the following is to be believed, either Mark Stoops is willing to take a big pay cut to be head coach at YSU, or YSU is stepping up big time on their head coach salary:ESPN Blog Link
Footballcoachingscoop.com says that YSU is offering Stoops "between $250,000 and $280,000 per year, at least double the value of former coach Jon Heacock’s deal"We're offering $100k more than that.

Lots of people spent time with Tom in Minnesota. That doesn't mean they'll be a good coach.
I'm going out on a limb an saying that is why he is on a short list. People go with what they know. I suggested this back in September and that's how CK brought up Browning with 10 minutes of research. It's not rocket science.

YSU is willing to pay Stoops between $250,000-280,000/year to coach at YSU. I can confirm he is the front-runner and if the monetary differences are settled out, he will be announced next week after their game against USC.Read this article: http://www.vindy.com/news/2009/dec/01/land...-ysu-athletics/You have to be naive to think he isn't interested in YSU if he is -negotiating- pay for assistants!Very exciting time for Akron and YSU right now!

I would honestly love to see:1. Mark Stoops2. Ken O'Keefe3. Paul Winters4. Luke FickellStoops is a big name and a great football family. If we could land him, it would be huge and think we'd have some success. Plus it would be great to beat YSU out for him. O'keefe's got Iowa's offense rolling pretty well and he recruits in Ohio. I think the fact that he knows Ohio recruits so well should put him at the top of the pack. Paul Winters we all know. Be great to have him back if we can. And say what you want about tOSU, the Fickell has their defense going pretty well. I would love to see a defensive minded coach at Akron. Please, please, no Glenn Mason, Mark Synder, Jedd Fisch, or any other coach whose program sucks or sucked.

I now that Wistrcill worked with Chryst in the past, and he's probably a good candidate, but Akron was one of the leaders that got his brother fired from the MAC office (I now believe this was a terrible mistake even though I was all for it at the time, given who they replaced him with). Would he really want to come here? Would we really want him here?

Winters needs a few more years at Wayne State and more success before he's a good candidate in my opinion. He's certainly done a marvelous job turning that program from a cellar dweller to a consistent winner, but I think a right of passage in making the jump from D2 to D1 is at least a little playoff success (Brian Kelly won national championshipS before making the jump from Grand Valley to CMU) and Winters hasn't taken a team to the playoffs yet.
