i don't know...this is why i bring it up. We beat UNCG by 24, UNCG gives WF hassle. I don't know if WF is doing this for non long distance games during holidays as I heard that UNCG's next game is at home vs. North Carolina St.If we played a team from a major conference here, we would get bigger attendance and better atmosphere from ,for example, Ak-Rowdies, local TV channels, and so on...if soccer can do it in a matter of 5 years of bringing big time teams to Akron, then why not basketball?

We can't get deals like this because the closest comparable program is Pitt, which is 90 miles away. WF and UNCG are only 26 miles apart. They share the same media market and the same geographical area when it comes to an alumni base.If we were that close to a BCS program, they would probably play at the JAR once in a blue moon to boost the RPI with a road win in place of a home win.

I think this was mentioned in another ZN thread but ACC teams are playing at UNCG Greensboro early in the season to get some experience in the Greensboro Coliseum. The ACC Tournament is held there at the end and some coaches think it is a good idea to be familiar with the surroundings. It was also mentioned during an ACC game telecast this year. UNCG gets the scheduling benefit of some good home games and nice gate with the ACC.

It's at UNCG? Wow. Why can't Akron get that?
This is an ATM game for UNCG. The game is being played at Greensboro Coliseum which seats 20,000. My guess is 18,000 of those fans will be rooting for WF. I'm sure UofA could get a home game like this if they were willing to play it in Cleveland.

Name the team that would draw 20k to the Q in a matchup with the Zips.

There are only two. Pitt and Ohio State. I would say to go for the Buckeyes, since we stand a better chance of beating them in a given eyar.

Ohio State probably would.Pitt, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Indiana, Syracuse and West Virginia would all probably draw 15K plus.Xavier, Purdue, Michigan, Butler and Illinois would probably draw 10K-12K.Those are just teams within about 6 hours of Cleveland that might consider coming to the Q to play us.

Gary Waters didn't even need to pull back the curtain at the convo last week. Attendance: 5105

Thanks ZW. OSU is having trouble filling 50% of the seats at their home arena this season. There is no advantage to Zips for playing games at the Q, except for the MAC tournament.

You only have to go back a couple posts to find that Wake and other ACC teams play road games at Greensboro because that is the arena where the ACC tournament is held. They feel that getting some experience on that floor prior to the ACC tournament will benefit them in the long run. Same thing applies to us playing a game or two at the Q during the regular season. Going into there with some familiarity with the surroundings come March can't possibly be a bad thing. If it gives us one of GP1's "ATM games" and maybe a chance to knock off a quality opponent as well, there is no down side. It isn't like we are going to have thousands of angry fans who would be missing out on watching this team in the palace that is the JAR.

I'm fine with that. Then what we need to do is schedule 2-3 ATM games a year and not worry about the home-home.

I suppose it's a good thing your name neither starts with Tom or end with Wistrcill.

Why is everyone so afraid of such a small percent of both ooc games and overall games being played as ATM games? I'm not scared of what the other teams have or how the Zips might perform. It has nothing to do with performance and everything to do with generating revenue for the Athletic Department.

I partially agree with you GP1...the first two sentences. As for the 3rd sentence, I want the money AND a chance to knock off a highly rated program. Having trouble getting a return home game puts us in the same boat as every other team of our caliber. But, we still have to do what we have to do.I don't ever want to see what happened following the 2007 season ever happen again. And it doesn't have to.
