NIT bid should determine...

the last 4 games needed to be scheduled next year. If we get a bid, Dambrot/Wistrcill will keep it the same. If we do not get a bid, it is obvious that we need an upgrade for all the reasons many of us have mentioned. My point? Dambrot's argument about current scheduling holds water if we make the NIT. If we do not, his argument is flat out wrong.

XU I think your point is valid. I think there are times his rhetoric around it doesn't matter who we play this conference is getting one bid or we need to win the tournament to make the NCAA tournament is self defeating and has the potential to impact the players minds. Coach says it doesn't matter if we lose we weren't going anywhere if we didn't win the MAC Championship tournament.

Elton had an interesting take in today's paper about the MAC cutting down on conference games to free teams up to schedule more games with quality opponents. He argues for 11 games and then scheduling OCC. I would love to see that happen.

Finally, KD continues to be upset with attendance at the JAR. Well people ain't going to get excited about coming to watch crap teams at the jar. Guess what I'd rather see us playing good teams on the road then have an opportunity to see these weak schools at the MAC.

Here's to a better OCC next year.

It's now official. No NIT bid for the Zips.

If this doesnt cement the fact that we need to upgrade our NC schedule then nothing does. No reason should a 24 win team not be in the NIT.

16-16 North Carolina made the NIT...that's sad...

RPI:

North Carolina #67 (9-15 vs. RPI teams 1-100)

Akron #97 (0-6 vs. RPI teams 1-100)

Do we need to upgrade our schedule? According to this we were 2-6 against top-100 teams and the two wins were against an Ohio team that barely made it. Maybe if we start winning a few we should consider upgrading.

If we went 4-4 against top-100 teams (beat Can't and URI at home), and didn't lose to EMU and Austin Peay, we would have been a lock for the NIT and had an RPI in the 50s at worst.

Would playing a tougher schedule with more losses have helped? Not if we can't beat any good teams and continue to blow it against weak ones.

listen...i'm a half hearted zips fan and not afraid to admit it. i follow the boards and the team because of a relation being close to the program. to think that this team has any type of resume to be considered for any post season tourney is laughable. Who is the best team they beat all year? Wyoming? Niagara? honestly...why think that they have a shot? This is not a very good team and they were very rightfully so denied a post season opportunity. you can play good teams tough, but if you don't beat them...nobody cares. this is the cold hard truth.

That's a little rough. Great team, NO. But they did win 24 yes 24 DIVISION ONE games.

From someone who was there when we were an Div II Independent and played such lumenaries as Philadelphia Textile and Kentucky Wesleyan, I think it's pretty darn good.

Until we recruit better and get better players, we can't play real teams. Dambrot knows this. That's why he cupcakes his schedule. He knows he can't coach his talent level against real teams...

Its a lose-lose.

Upgrading the schedule does not always mean playing more top 100 teams. The problem is the number of 200+ teams that we play every year. We played at least 10 teams with RPI of 200+ few of which are even 300+

The focus should be on playing teams in the range 50-150. If we do so, we will have a fun regular season where the games are competitive and also if we win enough, we will have a nice resume come postseason time.

EXACTLY! We could maybe schedule one more opponent that is Top 25 or 30 and that would be fine with me. The bigger problem is how many teams we play that don't make the top 240 or 250. We don't need to play a lot more very tough teams, we just lead to play many fewer very weak teams. We need to play more winning teams from lesser leagues and not losing teams from lesser leagues. If you want to play teams that lose a lot then play BCS bottom feeders or at least second division teams from leagues like the A-10, Mountain West, and Missouri Valley.

Look at the CBI & CIT.

Right now A BUNCH of those teams need to get together and set up home and homes.

Akron specifically should talk to Duquesne (bus ride to Pittsburgh), St. Louis (how awesome would it be to have Majerus prowling the sidelines at the JAR), Boston University and one of the Indiana schools.. IUPUI or Indiana State.

not a big akron bball fan either...but i also am old enough to have gone to those 'DII" games at memorable hall, the turners, len paul, harvey glover, wyatt webb etc...the difference is akron was playing at the top of its chosen level of competion back then...it happened to be 'DII' or whatever they called it but akron was one of the most competetive teams in that division...that obviously is not the case anymore but fans knew the quality of the team and the competition and jammed that place almost every night...

Why can't we just tell everyone KD coached LBJ in high school and get into these tournaments? :P

Keith is not nearly old enough to have coached Lyndon Baines Johnson in high school. Now if you were going to say LeBron James, that could have been a possibility. I'll have to look into this.
