So, new field for this 2010 season and stadium for next season? Is that the plan?

I've heard that they got a donor to sponsor the whole thing and rumor is that it will all be done by the fall. Could be wrong, just saying what I've heard.

Id love to hear more info on this one, but I doubt the athletic department will say anything right now. I too hope they do it all in one shot.

I've heard something about the existing bleachers being moved to the west end of the field (like for the Tulsa game last year) and seating being put in this year in addition to the field and lighting upgrades. Didn't sound like a pressbox or locker rooms, yet, though.

One crappy cellphone pic, coming up!

that doesn't look like very much digging

I did more in my back yard this weekend by myself.

PS Thanks for taking the time to take the photo. I always appreciate anybody that takes the time to take a photo and post here. We have many members that aren't from the area.

They've brought in some heavy equipment at the soccer field. Currently, they are cutting down some trees around the fence, and they've got a couple bulldozers and a track-ho sitting out there ready to go.

Easy on the track team buddy.

There is nothing there now. No equipment, no workers. I think they were just removing the trees and putting them somewhere else. No digging.

That seems odd, they didn't appear to be using the heavy machinery this morning for the tree removal. I can't see how a big old bulldozer is needed for tree removals. I'll check it out again tomorrow and see what's up.

They are just bringing in the machinery in preparation for the major earth-moving that will be necessary. My guess is that they still need to erect a temporary fence around the project site before they can begin any major earth moving.

Arent they also tearing down the tennis courts to make way for this project too?

Unfortunately you are wrong. The first phase (Lights, new field, drainage, irrigation, etc.) is going to be completed on time. Phase Two (Grandstand) is in need of money and the university is looking to cut aspects of the stadium that will make it less than adequate for the level we aspire too. It's all about money now and Caleb needs help. No major donor has stepped forward.

As with most capital projects, 80-90% of the fundraising is done quietly before it ever goes public or gets to people like you and me. Those deep-pocket donors are being pursued but none have committed. This project is in danger.

The heavy equipment is out there, sitting next to the tennis courts. Early this morning they were working on the electrical box outside the north entrance. I'm guessing they can't really start digging the new area until the lights are removed.

Also, they appear to have made changes to the drainage system on the hill. There's now a three-foot tall sewer pipe cover sticking out of the ground.
