Well, since basketball's over, and it's never too early.... SEASON PREDICTIONS

So what are we thinking sitting here in March boys, we looking at a quick turn around or a rebuilding process next year? Obviously we'll have a better idea after spring ball and summer when we know this team better and we also know who makes grades in the Spring, but let's hear some gut feelings and expectations...

Feel free to post the schedule and predict scores. I'll chime in later with my always spot on analysis (I mean, I don't wanna brag but if you pull up the 2005 preseason predictions I believe I was the only one to predict a MAC Championship, and I believe I've predicted a losing season every season after that, no big deal B) )

I'll tell you right now, my gut feeling is that we beat those punk-ass orangemen from Syracuse. That's for sure.

I was feeling pretty good about our chances in this game until I read your prediction.

I've never been so uncertain as to how the Zips will be next year. I'm not even sure what spring ball will tell us because it is such a short period of time. The need to go back to the days when spring practice lasted much longer. It was five games into the start of JD's first year when the kids finally caught on. Actually, it took that long for JD to figure out Biggs was his best shot at winning.

If the Zips are going to take a big leap forward between now and next year, it has to take place this summer when the coaches are not allowed to coach. Is there any leadership to lead the team in summer practices? Is PN16 that guy?

There are more questions now about the program than I can ever remember. There is enough talent to win in this horrible conference, but will they? I think they are going to either win the MAC next year or have a four win season.

I'd say we will be 1-3 heading into MAC play in October. Probably finish the year 5-7...

attendance predictions

SU - 20,000

GW- 14,000

NIU - 18,000

WMU - 15,000

Miami - 16,000

Buff - 12,000

Well, come on... it doesn't take a rocket scientist to predict a losing season especially with the clowns we had running the sidelines! Good job on the 2005 season though!

Here goes...

I started to go down though the schedule and make my predictions, but stopped because I was starting to sound a little silly. To me, it all boils down to one thing when talking about the 2010 season. Do you think the Zips will be a better team in '10 than they were in '09. If you think the best 2 players on the team last year were freshmen, I think they will be better. If you think last year's coaching was atrocious, I think they will be better. If you doubt that there will be a season-altering development like the CJ situation this year, I think they will be better.

If the Zips are a better team than last year I think we are in for a treat in 2010. Looking back on last season, the Indiana, Buffalo, Ohio and Bowling Green games were very winnable. I believe a better coached team wins those games last year. If we win 3 out of 4 of those games, the Zips finish 6-6 last year, which would have everyone with high hopes for 2010, right?

But, the Zips didn't win those games. We finished 3-9. I know it is hard for even the most die-hard fan to believe the Zips are going to be a threat for the MAC East crown, but I think it's possible. And I hope you don't think I am a Pollyana for thinking so.

The non-conference schedule is critical, I believe.

Syracuse is beatable. Their rushing game is apt to not be as good as it was last year. We beat them at their place in '08. The Info should be rockin. I think we win!

Gardner-Webb. Can you see the Zips losing? Me neither. 2-0.

Kentucky. Although it would be great, I don't see us ready to invade a SEC school stadium and bring back the win. I hope for a competitive game, though. 2-1.

Indiana does not have a good football team. We owe them one. We should have beat them last year. I hate to talk about ifs and buts. But if CJ wasn't dismissed from the team the Zips would have beat them last year. We go into Bloomington and win! 3-1.

The Zips are 3-1 going into the MAC schedule. How big does that make the Northern Illinois game at home on 10/2?

If we are 3-1 going into NIU, contact me and I will get you Roo Brew.

I feel Syracuse is beatable only because they are breaking in a new QB going against an unknown coaching staff, and preparing for a completely different game plan. They graduated a lot of depth on defense. We can win because we can surprise them. We have a lot of unanswered questions though ourselves.

Until the spring game I make no predictions.

I predict another losing season full of frustration and disappointment. Just like 90% of the earlier D-I seasons we've had at Akron.

....and you boldly predicted this before the spring game even. I'll rip off the original British Bulldog for my "anti-prediction".

Never in the field of gridiron conflict has so little been known by so many but a few.

I don't think even RI will know what he really has until the 'Cuse game.

I think you are right. We won't even know how our MAC season is going to go until we play the first game.

Back when JD took over, he felt really good going into the PSU game...right until the game started. They played terrible and were run out of the stadium. They later rebounded, but the first few games were horrible. One year later, the win the MAC.

I'm not certain what spring ball will tell us. The defense will look good because defenses mature faster than offenses. The offense will look bad because the defense is more mature.

My prediction for this spring season is.......Lots of hand wringing by the fans, little learned about the team.

Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me! I guess when a hypothetical question is asked, I should just reply with the "Zips suck/MAC sucks" mantra. That seems not to be too silly for a lot of you.

To Keener '92,

If it's any consolation to you, I meant that it's The Zipmeister who all too often "Sounds A Little Silly". Your post was well writtten & thought out. Keep 'em coming. Go ZIPS :D

I suppose I probably am being a little silly, (since we have been at this crossroads before and know how it turned out in the past), for talking about a 3-1 start that is based on essentially nothing but the hope that the new coaching staff is going to be better than the previous one.

Wow, it's easy to be optimistic in March!

march...what a wonderful time of year...when realism and critical thinking are lost to sexual fantasies and impending graduation...give this guy 2 years...if they get better between september 4 and november 30 then 2011 will be enjoyable...this guy has never been a head coach before people!...

I think people just need to take a look at reality and the truth is we really do suck. I understand being a big zips fan I should be optimistic but I'm not. I knew this season the football and basketball teams would both be flops and I was right. Before the football season started I saw everyone posting on here about how amazing we would be and look what happened. Just try to be more realistic, we have no chance of starting out 3-1 or anything, we might not even win 3 games this year. It's sad, but true....

Posted
How you determine the basketball season to be a "flop" .. I'll never understand. And frankly I don't care to even hear the logic.

Let's play ... remember when?

Go Zips!

Don't you know, we're past that stage now. It's all or nothing, anything else is failure. :chair:;)

No National Tournament

No NIT

No MAC championship

lost against Can't twice

lost the bracketbuster game

Was the football season a flop? Flop would be a good word. Disaster would probably be too strong.

Was basketball season a flop? I don't think they met expectations, but the also weren't a flop.

yeah I should have just said disappointing, rather than a flop
