Dr Z Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 Great job Tom. I never understood how DLM couldn't walk down the street on a beautiful day like today a do a nice story like this. Looking forward to tomorrow. I hope Thursday is Special Teams, Friday is Offensive Line, Saturday is Running backs, etc... This quote is the easy part, now the execution (hard part). But at least we have the right mindset now. ''We are going to try to put eight in the box when we can, with either a corner or safety,'' said Mallory, the co-defensive coordinator at the University of Illinois from 2007-09 before joining the staff of first-year UA coach Rob Ianello in January. ''It's what my background is. You always start with stopping the run. To do that, we will try to pack the box.'' That is welcome news for the Zips faithful who have endured four consecutive losing seasons, including 3-9 in 2009. UA ranked ninth in the 13-team Mid-American Conference in rushing yards allowed in 2009 (171.9) and 11th in 2008 (187.2). Mallory, 40, the son of former Miami University and Indiana head coach Bill Mallory, said the 4-3 defense is one that allows diverse looks that are designed to confuse opponents. One part of that is to rush the passer in different ways and to mix up coverages in the secondary that might lead to hesitation and uncertainly by opposing quarterbacks. ''I like the ability to bring zone pressure out of the 4-3. There are some good disguises you can use out of it,'' Mallory said. ''It looks like you are playing zone and all of a sudden you bring zone pressure out of it. It all looks the same, but you do different things.'' Quote

I predict Shawn Lemon will have a BIG senior year as a passing down rush specialist. He has shown potential in this role before, but the 3 man front limited his opportunities. Now moved back to end from LB, he will be a handful coming off the edge. Just recall his return of the 2 pt conversion attempt against Toledo (in JD's last shining moment) in 2008. He showed his speed then, and he will show it again this fall. Quote

dreal1scout Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 No mention of monster hands on defense. What a shock! O Meister, Meister. Your bitterness seems to preclude any intelligent banter of the matter at hand. Perhaps a little more listening and a lot less of how you say "hand holding," with ZippyRifle and you might learn something. Seriously, "Does your football/penis envy have to come through on every thread?" lol Had you listened to iCoach's speech yesterday at the HOF luncheon, you might have heard him speak of "MH" as one of an arsenal of "secret weapons" he is planning to unleash on the Orangemen at InfoCision Stadium come September 4th. Keep the Faith. GO ZIPS!!!! Quote

Apparently monster hands are no good for picking up pencils, operating calculators, and/or turning pages? If you were not eligible for the fall of 2009, you cannot participate in spring ball. I hear his fall UA classwork was fine. He should be good to go this summer. People forget kids like Jimmy Conyers, Darryl Roberts and Andre Jones were non-qualifiers too. It doesn't preclude them being a successful student athlete. Quote

Some of the kids worked their ass off in the classroom and just couldn't get the test scores to be eligible. Those kinds of kids almost always work out. The non-qualifiers I would avoid and that ole JD seemed to have a taste for were the guys who had fine test scores and couldn't make the GRADES in high school. That hints at laziness and lack of desire. Quote
