According to Rasor, Shaun Lemon will transfer

Because of "accidental" text message from the coach. Oops.

Edit: Aaand I misspelled "Shawn". :tomato: Sorry about that.

I've done that before. Was telling a coworker of mine exactly how i felt about this bitch with a chip on her shoulder, and sent it straight to her. She took it straight to the head haunchos and said it was either gonna be me or her gone. I'm still here. In hindsight, I'm glad I accidently sent the text. Maybe Rob is too. Lemon sounds like a cancer.

Whoops! I'll bet iCoach's heart sank as soon as he realized what he'd done.

I've actually done that myself. I was writing a text about someone (nothing too juicy) and accidentally sent it to that person instead of the intended recipient. It's easy to do. You're thinking about a certain person and, oops. Bit by multi-tasking.

I'm actually rather disappointed about this one, though. I was excited to see what Lemon could do as a pass rush DE.

I'm much happier to see him go than to sit and grumble all year. I love the implication that the coach wouldn't plan to play his best players. I would assume (and yes, I'll be happy to make an ass of you and me) that Lemon was not envisioned as a starter in the new defensive scheme or some such, and decided to go away. Or perhaps he felt entitled, or was lazy in practice and the coach told him it wouldn't fly and would impact his time on the field. We won't miss players who aren't willing to compete for their playing time and refuse to get with the program. Hey Mr. Lemon, nobody gets automatic field time coming from that 3-9 disaster last year big fella.

I want to wish him well but I really hate players who approach the game this way. This is a guy many of us had high hopes for, and here he is playing the role of team cancer, team quitter and small-time player all at the same time. Where are the players who are going to step up to the challenge, embrace the discipline, work their asses off for playing time and be integral parts of an Akron team on the move?

Good luck LIZ Lemon.

That is the true question. We are hearing about all the cancers, players leaving the program, but which players do you think are stepping into those leadership roles? Almondo Sewell? Alex Allen? I want to know who the strong voices are on the team because for this team to be successful leadership is key.

He was THIRTEENTH on the Zips in total tackles as a JUNIOR. He had THREE sacks for the entire 2009 season...which upped his career sack total (three combined seasons) to...FOUR.

Unless his last name is actually Conyers, there was little-to-no chance that he'd have made any impact in 2010.

Buena Suerte en New Mexico.

Great question. My advice to anyone who considers himself to be a leader on this team would do the following. Show up early for every workout...leave late. Workout when the most guys are there. Work your ass off. Lead by example. Players respect a guy who is committed to winning and doing the right things. Help the younger players. Don't be a verbal loud mouth. Actions speak louder than words.

Wow, I am not going to pick on Lemon, but I have to say this one is on the coach! I was shocked when I saw this and personally I do not understand why they wouldn't "talk" about this matter. It certainly is not something that shoulda been dealt with over a text anyway. I agree with the strike one call someone posted earlier!

If everyone steps back and looks at the practicality of the situation, this kid is completely stupid. Here is a kid who struggled to get into college in the first place. He gets in school and must be on track to graduate or he still wouldn't be on the team. He makes it through the worst part of when a new coach comes to town and then quits.

Let's say Coach I hates him and he hates Coach I. If you are Lemon, why do you even give a crap what a guy who doesn't like you thinks about you? Even worse, what do you care about a guy who isn't even smart enough to send a text to the right person thinks about you? Odds are, he would have at worst not started next year, but played in every game while finishing his degree at the school he started. Tuition paid for fall and spring.

If Lemon was really smart with the text, he would have taken his phone to the coaches office and behind closed doors said, "Coach I, you should have at least had the balls to say this to my face." Then he should have said, "See you in the fall" and went to class. Then, every time he saw Coach I from now until eternity, he could have said, "Having trouble texting?"

I know some of you somehow think this was a brilliant move by the coach, but for his part in this whole matter it can at best be described somewhere between sneaky like a mean high school girl and stupid like a mean high school girl. I'm really worried about this guy. Maybe because I'm worried about our new AD and by extension worried about Coach I.

Here is to trying your best to keep an open mind.

I see no reason to worry at all about the new staff until we see how the team looks this Fall. No matter who's the coach, the players' role is to entertain me by getting with the coach's program and winning games. I couldn't care less about anything going on inside the mind of a 20-year-old meat head jock. Get with the program or just go the hell away.

And for those who think that Ianello is some kind of fool for sending the text, apparently in error (or maybe not), if you have a cell that you use for texting and assert that you have never sent an SMS/IM in error, or one that you wish that you could have reeled back, well, you're lying.

See ya later Liz Lemon. Who else would like to quit the team, adding by subtraction?

I think this is the type of off-season action that we will quickly forget about, until something happens to make us remember it.

Situations like:

  • One of our ends keeps getting driven to the ground by a tight-end.
  • No sacks or QB pressure for an entire game
  • Something "bad" happens to more of our ends

Let's hope none of those things happen, and that we never have to remember the surname Lemon.

Except of course under completely different circumstances...

Hmmm....

- Lemon was small and weak. He would've been that end getting driven to the ground by a TE

- Like Cap said, 4 sacks in 3 years? Not exactly Dwight Freeney, I think we'll survive without him.

- Odds are if one of our starting ends had gotten hurt and Lemon were still with us, he'd still suck, because instead of preparing himself to play he would've been spending his time sulking and feeling sorry for himself. I'm sure whoever we have will do just fine.

- So nope, I think Lemon's one of those players that in about two weeks, hardly anybody associated with the program will even remember his name. He spent 4 years here, and was never anything but a backup. Good luck to him.

I'll be the first to admit that I am not one of the "insiders" on this board. The last few players I knew personally where from the LO era. So indeed some of you may have a clearer perspective on Mr. Lemon, particularly his attitude and work ethic. There is one small thing that gnaws at me before I agree to defer to the wisdom of the insiders. Marcus Lemon walked on at UA after Shawn came here on scholarship. One might presume the two Lemons had a few conversations (maybe even a text message or two lol) about the situation at Akron. Does it seem logical that Marcus would go through the effort required of a walk-on unless he had been given a pretty good impression of the place ahead of time? Of course this was during JD's reign and perhaps Shawn's allegedly poor attitude had not surfaced as yet.

Regarding his potential as a pass-rushing DE in his senior year, many would argue that we'll never know now. I based my high hopes for him this season on the opportunity to play in a 4-3 and Shawn's relative speed and quickness. IMHO his stats are not that impressive because he played limited time as a Sophomore (nice game at Army where the Zips actually fielded a 4-3 on defense) and played out of position at linebacker last year. It will be interesting for me to see where he lands. I'm hoping he plays somewhere like William & Mary, because I think this would go a long way towards resolving this debate. In this scenario, should Shawn put up weak stats, I will gladly say that I was wrong (about his potential on the field, not his character). On the other hand, if Shawn prospers in a league like the CAA then that's enough for me to believe he could have done the same here. And if any of you don't believe the CAA is AT LEAST as good as the MAC, then you're clueless about college football in general.

BTW, none of this colors my view on whether RI did the right thing or not from a Zip point of view. If RI and Shawn didn't see eye to eye and Shawn was not responsive to RI's demands, then it's probably best for Shawn to leave. My arguments here are restricted to his potential play on the field.
