The Alumni Basketball Players, coaching staff and the fan volunteers who help organize this annual fund raising event invite you to attend this year’s Men’s Basketball Summer Classic. This outing is rapidly growing in popularity so don’t wait to send in your reservation form which is attached to this thread.

The reservation form is also HERE.

In 2008 we played at Raintree Country Club and had 34 foursomes. Last year the outing was at Silver Lake Country Club and a record 45 foursomes were in attendance. Last year for the first time we had to use both morning and afternoon shot gun starts. This year the event is being hosted by Portage Country Club in Akron. We have again expanded the outing with full morning and afternoon flights so we can handle more golfers on the course. Whichever time slot you choose, we all attend the same noon luncheon and get to hear Keith’s prospective on the new players and the coming season. We have improved the event each year (while keeping the registration fee constant) and you have responded in record numbers.

A new feature this year is having a caddy for each foursome (still playing in carts). Portage Country Club has offered this service at no charge to our event. It will greatly speed up play and you the golfer can enjoy the event without worrying about raking traps, hunting for balls, holding the pin, etc. A great enhancement that makes this golf outing extra special.

The importance of this fund raising event is highlighted in the letter from Keith Dambrot on the registration form. If you cannot attend, please consider helping out the basketball program by becoming a corporate or individual hole sponsor. Sponsorship questions can be forwarded to Coach Lamont Paris (330-972-7788 office number or lparis@uakron.edu).

Don’t wait to form your foursome and enroll. This is a prepay event with registration and payment do no later the August 16th. I will regularly check this thread so if you have any questions, post them and I will get you an answer.

On behalf of Keith Dambrot, the coaching staff, players (current and alumni) and fan volunteers, thanks for your past support. We all look forward to seeing you at Portage Country Club on Monday, August 23rd.

Go Zips!

I'll chime in here on the outing. If you golf at all and are a Zips hoops fan, you need to go to this. It's really a good opportunity to get to know the coaches and hear how things are going in the summer. This will be my 4th or 5th Zips hoops outing, and I find it to be an invaluable aid in curing the mid-summer blues due to lack of Zips information.

It was a nice outing for years at Raintree. Last year, Silver Lake was a good venue & I'm betting Portage will be even better. Good chance to play a course that otherwise many of us don't get out on. All the coaches are always there & accessible, and you'll learn some things there that you might not otherwise hear about.

I've got my group .. hope you've got yours. Get your FB outing group together and join us at Portage!

Go Zips!!

It's the best of the three venues, by far, in my opinion.

Anybody going that happens to need a fourth? Would be nice to play with a few fellow ZN.O members. I am going to be in town for a reunion that weekend so I am going to exend it by a day so I can participate. I'll still send in as someone who needs a team if I can't find a team here, but I thought I'd try this first. Just don't be counting on me as a ringer. :)

For those who went, can you give a summary of the day. Any news from KD? Thanks much.

The golf was fun, it rained on us at the luncheon, and Dambrot didn't tell us anything that hasn't already been discussed here.

I'm shocked that ZN members didn't ask any good questions!?! That was my favorite thing about the football outing, I got to ask questions I didn't know the answers to. But sometimes there is that one guy that tries to monopolize the coach's time and ask him dumb question after dumb question and you can't get quality time. "Hey coach, you think Zeke is going to be better next year?", "Hey coach, how's the schedule look?", "Hey coach, are we gunna win the Mac this year?".... :wall:

If you only knew! :CK_brew:
