Zipsrifle
I think the entire season should be an interview period. In fact, I smell a reality TV show! ZNO can nominate 3 people. The UA Student body can nominate 3 people. The Community can nominate 3 people and the University can nominate 3 people. We set up a panel of judges and then have the zips fans vote! Profits go to paying for the Stadium Debt!
K92
I got an idea, but forget his name. How about the sportscaster the used to be on ch. 23 with the big BLUE scoreboard.
johnnyzip84
Myron Cope was drunk out of his mind most games. Now your just trying to make me mad. Cope is the only football announcer to be inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame and the recipient of the Pete Rozelle Award for "long-time exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football. Cigarettes took Copes life. Cope gave the rights to The Terrible Towel (one of the greatest marketing ideas in NFL history) to the Allegheny Valley School in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. The school provides care for more than 900 people with mental retardation and physical disabilities, including Cope's autistic son. Proceeds from the Terrible Towel have helped raise $3 million for the school. He was like Herb Score, you turned your tv off and listened to the radio because you wanted to hear what he had to say. He was a little more than "drunk out of his mind." I'm glad you cited Cope's extremely generous gift to the Allegheny Valley School. Interestingly, he is not the only Pittsburgh professional sports broadcaster to have had a key role in AVS's history. Longtime voice of the Pirates, Bob "The Gunner" Prince, was instrumental in getting the AVS off the ground in the earlies '60s.
Dave in Green
I voted for "other" because I don't want any of the regular ZN.O color commentators to be distracted by obligations to do a radio broadcast and dilute their colorful contributions to ZN.O. Z-P
Dan Basch............broadcasting novice, but never short on something interesting to say and really knows the game............tune him up in studio and he'd be great by game 3 IMHO

Great guy and love him to death, but I have a feeling he'd be a little too honest... and shall we say... forthcoming with his opinions on what he's seeing on the field. Still in Akron, taking over his parents' jewelry business I believe. He should have plenty of time on the weekends. I still think he'd be a little too honest in the booth though, ruffle way too many feathers, and be gone after two games
ditchrider1
Honestly I think they need to replace Joe Dunn...his negative aura at times makes it hard to listen. Granted the product on the field has not provided many positive results but...I can turn on the radio and in 3 seconds know if the Zips are winning or losing. Speaking In an overly downtrodden tone "And the Zips turn the ball over inside the Buffalo 10 yard liiiinnnneeee..." That is why I love listening to Tom Hamilton, he is very enthusiastic and does not bring you down when the Tribe is getting spanked. Dunn makes me want to curl up in a ball and cry. I actually think Frenchy gives away the outcome with his tone even more than Joe Dunn. But I put up with it, because he seems to live and breathe Zips just like the rest of us. It's been hard to be a Zip football fan over the years and it's been hard to be the "voice of the Zips" as well. Hmmm maybe GP1 might have a point here. If the Zips were to drop down a classification, would Frenchy's overall "game mood" improve? Perhaps.
Dr Z
Honestly I think they need to replace Joe Dunn...his negative aura at times makes it hard to listen.Your confusing Joe Dunn with Steve French right? Steve does play by play, Joe, or JJ as he is being called, does side line reporting. Joe Dunn is very positive about 95% of what he reports. He is VERY pro Akron. I agree that you can guess the score by the tone of Steve's voice. Both are super nice guys and I have grown to enjoy listening to both. scottditzen
Steve French sounds bad because he loves Akron so much. How would any of us sound after the carnage we've witnessed over the years. ps. in other broadcasting news....voice of the Cavs Joe Tait is hanging it up after this year. If you didn't know, he also does Mount Union games. I'm gonna miss that guy, he's the best in the nba.

Oh I know it is hard to watch and he is an Akron fan but I feel that he should scale the negativity back a bit. Dr.Z...I enjoy listening to sports on the radio...I am a huge AM talk radio guy and most times prefer to listen to the Indians on the radio and that is why it frustrates me because I want to listen to U of A hoops and football but it is difficult at times. Steve really just lets all the negative emotions fly which for a fan is fine but for an announcer providing a service I wish he would tone it down at times. And I have no doubt they are both great guys...Akron guys
Dr Z
I feel that he should scale the negativity back a bit. What if that is scaled back. I have heard this complaint from many Zip fans. I would imagine it's hard to change your "personality" on the radio if you don't want to sound fake. I wonder what Steve would say if asked the question as to why he sounds so negative when the Zips are failing? I get to listen to a lot of college football throughout the country since I have Sirius radio. On the grand scale of things, I think Steve ranks above average around the country. Nonetheless I will still listen...hopefully Rob I. and the boys will give Mr.French a lot less to groan about this year and for years to come, I know we all as Zips fans need it! Take care! Whether you know Mrs. Basch or not, if you attended a Zips game between 2000-2004 you would recognize her voice. During one particular sparsely attended game, and a particularly bad defensive performance, I have a distinct memory of her voice echoing across the Bowl.... "Get your heads OUT OF YOUR ASSES!!!" ZachTheZip
We'll still get to hear Frank Stams, just not on the radio. He's been hired away to work on Sports Time Ohio. It's a good bet that he'll be doing the MAC games.
UA Fan
I liked Stams a lot too. I'm thinking maybe Chris Beaven would be good...Firestone HS and UA grad, lives in Akron. I guess he's more of a newspaper guy (now sports editor of the Canton Rep.) but I could swear I've heard him do some radio work..
