Dave in Green
OK, gczip22, you earned credibility by breaking the news on Treadwell. Now you offer up a really interesting and different perspective on other Zips players and potential lineups. You clearly have some good insight into the sport of basketball. Glad to have you here, and looking forward to your future posts.
Hilltopper
I wouldn't give up on landing Enis just yet. To me the odd man out looks like Green. He better come in and tear it up if he ever expects to play with all that frontcourt depth.
Captain Kangaroo
I think it's funny that, 5 months ago... hell, 2 months ago.... many were complaining that we had too many small players. That we couldn't guard the longer, more rangy players from schools like K.e.n.t, or BCS-type schools. Now we have size, so I guess there needs to be a new fear to take it's place (nature abhors a vacuum). If KD's new group of recruits works out...and that's a BIG if...then we won't need shades. We'll need welder's masks.
Captain Kangaroo
I wouldn't give up on landing Enis just yet. You don't think KD has already gone "Allen Hanson/Ced Middleton" on Ennis? The day Ennis de-committed, I guarantee KD, McFadden and Company pulled out their little black books and began re-kindling some relationships. Ennis seems to act like Favre...but I don't think the Zips are as desperate for Ennis as the Vikings are for Favre.
RACER
you never know about new guys coming in.some of them look bad the first year or two.then they end up really improving. look at conyers jimmy really came on his sr year.i think the important thing is not to give up on a guy if he does not do well the first two years.i really don't know what to expect from green.i lived in columbus for five years.i went to enough high school games, and played enough pick up games with alott of high school players.there is alott of talented b-ball players in columbus.some of these guy's get overlooked by some power conferences for different reasons.gary trent ended up at ou because of grades, but played high school ball in the bus.if kd gave this guy a offer then i trust him enouh to know talent when he sees it. Maybe the Zips will be so lucky. a pro athlete says he owes the fans? what??? I wonder if the stupid piece of dirt lebron heard that, apparently he feels doesn't owe Akron or Cleveland crap, must be nice to be "spoiled" like we were by him. Back on topic, Ennis is gone. He may just keep Akron around for a bit, but by judging by his decommit, I don't see why someone would do that if they indeed still wanted to go there. He's just waiting for a better offer, which he will receive and KD will have to do his best to find a replacement.
Dave in Green
Ennis may find that UA is not such a bad choice after all. As we've all seen, the Zips future is looking much better that it did way back when Ennis verbaled. Then again, maybe the Zips future has gotten so bright that a PG with more upside than Ennis might be attracted. This is just a wild and crazy time for Zips basketball with so many changes happening so fast. I don't have any inside info on what's going on, so I really have no clue as to how the PG situation will shake out. But based on all the recent good news about incoming talent, I'm optimistic that KD will find a PG with talent to match the other new players. Captain Kangaroo
He's just waiting for a better offer, which he will receive and KD will have to do his best to find a replacement. He's also one rolled ankle away from starting his career at Tri C.

He's also one rolled ankle away from starting his career at Tri C. And that is a problem why? Seriously though. I would love to get Ennis back here with some of the other talent we have on the roster over the next few years. But if it doesn't happen it doesn't happen. I'm just concerned about having another PG who can bring the ball up the court right now. You can have all the big, athletic monsters you want up front, but if you don't have a couple of capable players to bring the ball up the court and initiate the offense you won't be playing to your full potential. Zip Watcher
Ennis will be a good get and a good fit for UA. He appears to be in line with the types of guys KD likes. He's working his tail off this summer. I hope he finds that the Zips are his best fit, and comes back into the fold.
Dave in Green
I'm more concerned about having a couple of players who can consistently get the ball upcourt under pressure than I am about having a PG who single-handedly quarterbacks every move on offense. While it would be great to have a stud PG who can do it all, they are a rare commodity in basketball at any level (HS, college, pros). Fortunately, there are other options that can work pretty well. As we've discussed here in the past, a "point center" can be pretty effective at triggering the offense. All you have to do is safely get the ball to the offensive end, feed it to the center near the basket, and when the defense collapses on him, have him be able to consistently find and pass to an open player. Surround that center with some good-sized wings who can hit the open jumper or drive to the bucket and you have an effective scoring offense without relying on a PG to run everything. Zeke's height obviously gives him an advantage for seeing the whole floor, and he already has an unselfish ball distributor mentality. In time he could develop into an effective point center. Blue & Gold
I am such a complete dork that I can't stop daydreaming about this potential 2011-12 lineup: G Alex Abreau 5-9 G Brian Walsh 6-4 G Chauncey Gilliam 6-5 G Quincy Diggs 6-6 F Demetrius Treadwell 6-7 F Nick Harney 6-7 F Josh Egner 6-7 F Dakotah Euton 6-8 F/C Nik Cvetinovic 6-8 C Zeke Marshall 7-1 Going with gczip22's idea of not pigeon-holing players into 1's, 2's, 3's etc., because most of these guys (all?) are rather decent ball-handlers, and instead going with two line-ups consisting of 1) Guard, Wing, Wing, Post, Post and 2) Guard, Guard, Wing, Wing, Post, the two line-ups could look like: Line-up 1: G Alex Abreu 5-9 W Chauncey Gilliam 6-5 W Demetrius Treadwell 6-7 P Dakotah Euton 6-8 P Zeke Marshall 7-1 or Line-up 2: G Brian Walsh 6-4 G Quincy Diggs 6-6 W Demetrius Treadwell 6-7 W Nick Harney 6-7 P Zeke Marshall 7-1 Good grief, my post has absolutely no new point to make!!! I just love looking at that!!!

Thats a quality post and one that I agree with 100%. I thought Zeke got better and better at kicking it back out as the season progressed. When defenses sag on him down on the block somebody is always wide open for a jumper. Just got to knock them down !
