How do you get that kind of athlete with a potential winless record?
johnnyzip84
I'll throw out the obvious one. Has any consideration been given to putting Jalil Carter back at safety?
ZachTheZip
I'm glad this is back. it's easy for winning coaches to take questions, but it takes guts to take open questions when things are going the way they have. My question for coach Ianello: Jalil Carter was an all-MAC Safety last season. With our secondary lacking depth and with Carter not producing all that much at Receiver, is there a possibility to move him back to help on defense? Edit: Looks like johnnyzip84 beat me to the punch. OK. New question: You have shown no reservations about giving playing time to true freshmen. Is this a matter of them having more talent at their positions, or is there a lack of leadership being shown by upperclassmen which is causing them to be sat down? Captain Kangaroo
I'm glad this is back. it's easy for winning coaches to take questions, but it takes guts to take open questions when things are going the way they have. The guy came from a losing program at Notre Dame. Easily in excess of a million fans "down" on the program and staff. Every loss was nationally televised. Now he's facing 3 Zips fans on Waterloo Road, and they're more interested in free wings than football. While I appreciate his availability, it is as gutsy as walking a foot-high tightrope over a tupperware container full of minnows. I think he'll survive. Excitement regarding Zips football is at an all-time low. And that's really saying something. My question for the guy - "After witnessing what has been on display the first 3 home games of the season, why should I come back for game 4? What is going to change?" Question #2: "Will you beat K.e.n.t. State?"
Zipgrad01
My question.... With 17 starters back, a lot was expected from this team. After watching the first 5 games, the players seem to have regressed since last season. Is this due to the players getting used to a new offensive and defensive philosophy or is it that we simply do not have the right type of players to run the system that you are trying to install? Only from some on here. Zips were predicted to finish last in the MAC East, remember.
Dr Z
Our secondary is an obvious weakness. Teams are now game planning to attack that. Why is this a weakness? Do we have the right coaches in place for teaching in this area or are we thin on talent here? You mentioned before that we need to get pressure on the QB to help our secondary out. What are we doing to create pressure? Blitzing? How often? I'll hang up and listen to your answer....

He came from Notre Dame, but as a position coach. He never had to answer any questions for them. It's different being the head coach. And is it just me, or he always seem supremely annoyed when he has to give an interview? Another question: What is the biggest difference between recruiting for Akron and recruiting for places like Notre Dame or Wisconsin? Is this due to the players getting used to a new offensive and defensive philosophy or is it that we simply do not have the right type of players to run the system that you are trying to install? I would ask iCoach if a bowl game was out of the question. Or if 0-12 is a real possibility? Even after the beatdown on Saturday I still had my hopes up to beat Ball State...Now, not so much. In retrospect, I find it interesting how many of us thought we would be somewhat competitive with the 17 starters back. Even I thought four wins were certain. But if anyone was at the Spring game and saw how bad it was, our 0-5 start really isn't that surprising. In a game set-up for offense, the defense killed the offense. The offense could barely move the ball. We love to rip the 3-3-5 defense and rightly so, but all we did from last year is rearranged the chairs on the titantic and it's sinking fast. We couldn't stop anyone in 2009 and the same goes for this year... We need better players.....and fast...

Aaron
Our team appears to be lacking cohesion, as well as clear leaders. What is your plan for organizing these excellent individual players into a team, capable of playing football competitively?

The other 20 people in there don't care about the Zips, and will be eating their free wings, not paying any attention at all, and will be talking to each other about Cowlumbus State and the Browns and complaining that they can't hear the TV over Coach I's interview. The Browns won yesterday so fans will probably be easier on the Coach. I would just love to get straight to the point. Hey Coach this team sucks. Will you resign if you don't win a game this season? Lee Adams
This is an opinion question. Many here wanted to see a coach brought in with successful head coaching experience at at least the I-AA or D-II level. Please comment on the the advantages of bringing in a head coach with the type of experience that you bring to Akron as opposed to a successful head coach at a different level. Thanks! Whats your point?? If you are talking about the guy who runs the restaurant,I'll bet he brings in more than me and a whole lot of others who go to the games.
