Ouch.

I'll bet that's exactly what B McKnight said after his father "discussed" this with him. ;)

While not what you'd like to see from a senior team leader, let's hope it turns into a positive motivation rather than putting him in a season-long funk. In the short term, this will give all the incoming frontcourt recruits more PT early on -- not necessarily a bad thing.

Maybe my biggest concern is that he never "appeared" to be a guy who ran up and down the court displaying a great deal of endurance. And if my observation is correct, missing basically the entire conditioning/practice part of the season may be a very bad thing for him. Especially if he has "grown" a little bit in the off-season, like many guys tend to do.

If B McKnight wants it bad enough, he will find a way to work himself into condition during the suspension (assuming the suspension keeps him out of team workouts). I'll bet his dad could come up with a few ideas to help him out. ;)

On the other hand, if he doesn't want it bad enough, there's plenty of frontcourt help on the way that needs experience and seasoning.

Any way you slice it, this is just horrible news when you are talking about possibly your best player. Typically, I think the best you can hope for in a situation like this is that he'll be able to catch up in only a few weeks or so.

I feel a little bad for Brett but he must have done something to merit this. I'm not sure it's such a bad thing for the team as a whole though. You sort of already know what you have with Brett - good player but wildly inconsistent. With all the new guys we have maybe this is an opportunity for one of them to get some time to step up since we know little about them or maybe it helps Brett realize this is the last chance and he decides to step it up himself. Anyway, maybe not as negative as it would first appear.

Our roster is so mixed up right now. Who eas behind Brett that will get more time? What position was he even supposed to play this year? PF? That means either Euton or Egner has to start immediately. SF? We don't have a real SF on the team, they're all converted from some other position.

I love how the Can't fans on Ohio.com are trying to act like we're all criminals. As bad as this is, isn't it different when a player gets suspended by his actual team, as opposed to being arrested. Or are they just too stupid to realize the difference? I don't know but that Fred guy on there needs to be punched in the face too. I love how he spends his entire life posting negative things on Zips articles. I guess it must suck being a 40 year old pizza delivery guy living in his mom basement....

The difference is that we suspend our players for more than one game for minor transgressions while they either do nothing or suspend them for a single game for getting out-and-out arrested.

Exactly, I don't understand why it is so difficult for them to comprehend the difference....

Yep. As I've said many times before in regards to basketball, when you start looking at new incoming and inexperience players as the guys who need to pick up the slack, it's not normally a good sign.

It really does depend on if you view Brett as a SF or a PF. Personally, I think Brett always has been an undersized PF. I think KD has experimented with Brett at SF enough over the years to realize that isn't his best position, or even really a position he is capable of playing. His lack of quickness and poor defense makes him a liability at SF.

If you look at him as a SF then I think you have to look at Quincy Diggs and Michael Green as possible beneficiaries. If you look at Brett as a PF then Nikola Cvetinovic and Dakotah Euton will see more time. In either scenario I think the real big winner is Josh Egner who I personally think has the size and athleticism to play either spot at a high level. Certainly will be interesting to see how this plays out though.

It's a waste of time worrying about changing the opinions of wackos and those who are easily influenced by wackos because they're either not likely to get it or they just plain don't want to.

Thoughtful, intelligent people really don't pay much attention to wackos on internet forums. If you politely lay out all the facts about the comparative severity of the Can't and UA player transgressions and the way each team responded in a simple A-B comparison, intelligent people reading the forum will get it.

At UA, the team suspends players for a game for missing a class. At Can't, the team suspends players for a game for DUI and worse. Verifiable factual data is a powerful weapon against goofy claims.

Thank you Dave. now you must understand why this thoughtful intelligent interloper on this internet forum called Akron a fourth-place team. :D And a classier one, I cannot remember.

Wonder what it is that instigated this. "A violation of team rules" could mean just about anything.

It could. Athletic departments hand down so many rules to players, they all should have their own law student assigned to them to keep them from breaking them. For all we know, he overslept and missed an 8 AM class.

It's definitely worse than that, trust me.

I'm sure it will come out eventually...just not from me.

If you know something and are at liberty to say it, just say it. If you don't know anything or you aren't able to say what you know then best to keep quiet. This "I know something you don't know, but I'm not allowed to tell you" stuff helps nobody and only encourages more needless conjecture.
