As we go into our eight game of the season we must realize that we have undergone a new coaching staff with a new scheme both offensively and defensively that we will go through growing pains. But as loyal Zips fans that we are we need to show patience under a new regime. Now that being said I guess the cupboard was empty and we need to look forward to next year. The OL line has given up 23 sacks and the recieving corp has dropped numerous balls, the defense as been burned more than my my wife's breakfast bacon. What we need to ask ourselves is who's fault is our problem's?

Sounds good to me. Everyone else who is failing is blaming Bush.

I think akron football and akronad are pimps for the UA Department of Athletics.

You guys must think we are all suckers because we have a sports connection to northeast Ohio. Well, your football team is lousy, and unlike Browns fans, I will remain interested but not perpetuate such an embarrassment by not spending money on your product. This doesn't make me a fair weather fan because I remain interested and supportive. It makes me intelligent for not wasting my financial and emotional resources while attempting to uphold (if not salvage) pride in my alma mater.

Next time, listen to the fans who pay your salary. Get a real coach with real head coaching experience and not some "recruiter" from a big name failed program who has connections to the guy who hired him. And this "it takes time" crap is unacceptable. It takes a pretty extreme level of incompetence to sink a MAC program that has the facilities advantages and support from the administration that UA does. Facilities and a coach who wins games are the best recruiting tools. How come I never heard Brian Kelly referred to as a "recruiter?" Why did his teams never take even a minor step back in his first year? Oh yeah, that's right, because he's a coach, not a "recruiter."

We lost to a 1-AA school at our gorgeous brand new stadium, have not been competitive in terms of winning a I-A game yet, and are the laughing stock of all of college football. We are the worst team in a very bad conference. The only change we got was from sub-par with JD to rock bottom with iCoach.

In the spirit of the election season, that is not the kind of change I want whether it be Democrat or Republican. Nonetheless, akron football and akronad still promote the same kind of propaganda that is on political talk radio 16 hours per day. Give it a rest guys. You can't polish this turd of a season, and the "wait 'til next year" stuff only works with Cleveland fans. We are from AKRON!!!

You should actually learn from the politicians. When asked about Akron Football, your reply should involve a resounding and enthusiastic reference to Akron Futbol. Otherwise, no coverage is good coverage. We should all be thankful for the ABJ's level of indifference.

See you at the soccer games.

I'm with you Trimmy. "Turd" is exactly the word association I make with Akron Football this season.

As for Akronad, I was always taught that "hope is not a good strategy"...Akron Football is the tried and true proof of that. It seems that's all that the powers that be do with Akron Football is hope they can find a coach, and once they select someone, hope that he can coach.

Beyond the thoughtless approach to selecting a head coach, they continue to do everything they can to drive the fans away. At 5:50 pm on Tuesday evening I walked over by the North End Zone Facility area and was looking into the stadium. Although I was on the sidewalk outside of the stadium, I was told this was a closed practice and I would have to move away and not look into the stadium. Nevermind that I was dressed in full Akron gear (for the soccer game vs Michigan)... I might give away some great secret as to what they were practicing. Also, nevermind that 2 minutes later I was on the club level for the season ticket holders gathering for the soccer game and was able to look down upon the practice from there. Perhaps I misinterpreted the direction to not look into the stadium...maybe they didn't want me to get sick ( :puke: ) watching that football practice and not be able to attend the soccer game. At any rate, this treatment sure improved my interest in coming to the remaining football games, NOT!

Zip_ME your story just goes to show how arrogant, elitist, stupid, and out of touch this new staff is. Do they really think any MAC school has the budget to be sending guys down to scout out our practices? Does RI really think any MAC school feels like they NEED to catch some great secret from spying on our practices to beat the hell out of us? If I were you, I would've looked whatever gentleman who said that to you right in the eye, and told him that you were an Akron Alumni, your tuition dollars and donation money PAID for this campus and stadium, and you will walk anywhere on it that you darn well please.

During the beginning of the JD era, I was completing graduate classes and used to on occasion stop by the outdoor practice field after classes to say whats up to some of the guys still on the team as well as the strength and equipment staffs, and would catch a little bit of practice. There were always students sitting and standing around the fence watching practice. Nobody gave a damn. That's not something to give a damn about. If anything, Zip_ME, that guy should've been elated that anyone still gave enough about this sorry program to even want to take a glance at what's going on at practice.

I know I just violated the swearing policy, and I'm sorry, but this kinda crap and the entire attitude this staff has taken since they waltzed in here has really ticked me off. They know they've ticked people off too, and they don't care. I said it before the season started: You can be a jerk and win, and nobody cares. But if you're a jerk who's 0-7, nobody is going to tolerate that. If I had millions of dollars, I would personally take a big fat check made out to the University of Akron to Luis Proenza's office and say it was all his if he would can this bunch of clowns and the moron who hired them. They need to get the hell out of MY football program. I bled and busted my ass for Akron football. Many of you have sat through a lot of crap and driven all over the country as loyal fans in support of a bad football program. All of us have poured a lot of ourselves into Zips football. And these guys who have been here for a few months continually laugh in our faces and lose games while they're at it. I've had enough.

I am now sorry I ever complained about JD Brookhart. While I always thought he was a pretty lousy coach, he was at least a great human being who went out of his way to show appreciation for all fans and alumni. I never thought I'd say this, but I wish he was still our coach today when looking at the incompetant fellow we've got. The Lemon "I'm too much of a bitch to say this to your face" text from this past spring should've told us all we needed to know about Rob Ianello. It's an excellent picture of the man from where I'm sitting.

Zone, Zip and Timmy...... You guys are right on. In fact, I think you guys love Akron football more than the Ianello apologists who say support the program by blindly following incompetent leadership. They will never make this program better. Your challenges to the direction of the program will. You are pressing for accountability, not false hope. There is no evidence this program will get better. Hello! We are 0-7 with no growth or estblishment of the foundations for winning in the future. That is unacceptable. You are expected to win with other people's talent. It's called coaching. It's want you are paid to do. You are also expected to change the culture of mediocrity. Not make it so pathetic that we are praying to finsih with 2 or 3 wins.

Is recruiting really going to save us? Look at who we have verbals from right now. None have had firm offers from Big East schools or lower level Big Ten. We are beating out I-AA's and low level MAC teams. No world beaters here. What about the accepted rule in D-1 football that freshmen need to redshirt to get bigger and develop the maturity needed to handle the grind of D-1 football. That means his recruits are two years away.

Is our brilliant staff going to save us? Let's see.... almost everyone that Ianello has hired was fired before coming to Akron. None came from winning programs. They didn't know how to win before and they don't know how to coach to win now. Our athletes have tuned the staff out. Do they play like they respect their position coaches? Hell no.

Support Akron athletics? I'm all for it when we have the ability to play well and/or compete with heart (Notice no mention of winning). This program gives us neither and to throw my emotions and money down the drain backing the leadership of the program is a disservice to my alma mater. Show me you can coach, not recruit, and you've got my support.

Still :screwks: and soccer will be :NCAAC:

This program is the embarrassing alcoholic uncle of the family.

You have to love him because he is family but...

A.) Grandma dies and somehow he aquires her brand new buick then three weeks later shows up to a family function with a scrape all the way down the side and the front end smashed in.

B.) Makes the young neices and nephews cry at Christmas because he accidentally lets the truth fly about Santa.

C.) Tells Aunt Clara her sweet potatoes taste like cat food and then whe she starts crying at the table tells her that is probably why her husband left her.

D.) Borrows money, blows it at the track then comes back to borrow some more because he "met this hot-ass married chick online and she is coming to visit me...wink wink and he needs to western union her money for a bus ticket"

E.) Somehow always shows up to a function that you went out of your way to avoid inviting him to and then hits on your daughters high school friends.

F.) Tries to wrestle someone at his 20 year class reunion.

Okay so the analogies dont make any sense but this program is a complete embarassment.

Am I wrong in remembering that Ianello came here saying "the cupboard is full" and "we can win now?" So, if he actually believed his own words, he either can't recognize talent, or he certainly can't coach it.

I've heard and read enough about this guy, including on this very thread, to realize Akron hired the W-R-O-N-G guy. Who, besides the fans, will take the fall for that hire? His reputation here, now, is beyond repair. Bet UA is so glad they made his mug the "face" of the tickets and promotion, eh? Proenza is going to have to step in and end this madness now. Too many millions have been spent for some carpetbagger recruiter to come in here and kill an entire fanbase and program.

Entire fanbase? You mean he upset about 3,000 people? I am sure the university can live with that if he really CAN recruit and gets us out of this funk next year.

It's one thing to be able to evaluate talent and convince players to play under another head coach. It's very different to try and convince them to play for you. This is Ianello's challenge. It's not easy, especially with the reports of the current players being in some kind of rebellion against the coaching staff. It doesn't look good to recruits when your future teammates all hate the coach that's recruiting you.

If I'm not mistaken, it was the AD who said the cupboard was full, not Ianello.

iCoach was showing up at kids houses at Notre Dame with this pitch. We'd like you to come play for Coach Charlie Weiss at one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the country Notre Dame. Don't forget Charlie Weiss is the guy who won "x" number of Super Bowls in the NFL and taught Tom Brady (a sixth round) pick how to be one of the best quarterbacks ever.

How freaking hard is that to do?

His new pitch...Hi I'm Rob Ianello coach of The University of Akron Zips and I'd like you to come to Akron to play for me. We were 0-12 next year and I can guarantee you'll have a chance to start for four years in one of the nicest new stadiums in the country and great practice facilities.

Doesn't have the same ring does it?

The initial press release.

Look at these quotes.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING

"I am delighted to hear Akron's choice of Rob Ianello as the next head football coach. Rob is ready to go (as a head coach). He has been a loyal and trusted assistant for the University of Notre Dame for the past five years. He has the reputation as one of the best recruiters in the country, while his positions players have played at the highest of levels. I am happy both for the University of Akron and the Ianello family. This is a win-win situation."

-Charlie Weis

Former Notre Dame Head Football Coach

"I am thrilled for Rob. I think he will do an exceptional job. I know Akron has made a tremendous commitment to be at the forefront of football in the Mid-American Conference and nothing illustrates that commitment more than hiring Rob Ianello, who is one of the top people available in college football. I am very excited for Rob and excited for Akron. I know he will do a fantastic job. He will bring tremendous energy to the program and expertise to the job."

-Dick Tomey

San Jose State Head Football Coach

2009 President of the American Football Coaches Association

"I have known Rob since he was a graduate assistant at Alabama. He is absolutely one of the best recruiters in the country. Each year, we name the best recruiters, he won two years ago (2007) and he is always listed as one of the best. He is one of the few recruiters to land five consensus All-Americans in one season. As a recruiter, he is a bulldog, relentless and a great organizer. I cannot say enough good things about him. (Akron) will see some big-time recruits coming there. Rob is a great guy to have as your head coach."

-Tom Lemming

Recruiting Analyst

The Lemming Report/CBS College Sports

They never mention about how good of a coach he is.

Tom Brady went to the University of Meeeshigan. (That's a gratuitous Bob Ufer reference. If you don't know who Ufer was. look him up He was awesome.)

Otherwise, I have the same thoughts when I keep hearing what a great recruiter RI was for ND.

I think BZ was referring to the fact that Tom Brady was a 6th round pick and that Weiss taught him to be one of the best QB's ever while with the New England Patriots (not at Notre Dame),

I stand corrected. I identify Weiss so much with ND that it slipped my mind that he was the OC at NE when Brady was drafted. I remember watching Brady when he was QB at UM. Who knew.

When JD was coach, there was a definite lack of discipline. Now, when iCoach arrived, he put down his foot and would not & will not tolerate that type of attitude. So, yes there is going to be rebellion of sorts among some of the players. Do you let the insane run the asylum?
