Zipmeister
I wonder which "crowd" was/is bigger; the one at the Akron/Buffalo game or the NIU/Miami game going on right now.

Not sure about the crowd, but is NIU choking once again? Edit: Maybe their D will save them. MAYBE NOT!!!!
johnnyzip84
And to think the Zips were THAT close to eliminating the Sweaters. Wow. More evidence that the team really WAS improving at the end of the year?

Blue & Gold
And to think the Zips were THAT close to eliminating the Sweaters. Wow. More evidence that the team really WAS improving at the end of the year? We really must have been. We got absolutely blasted by NIU but really should have beaten Miami. Goodness, the MAC is there for the taking. As we all know, it really doesn't take a whole lot to win in this conference. NIU was undefeated in conference play, and had that Top 25 ranking which I so covet. Come on, iCoach! Work your recruiting magic!
scottditzen
How the hell does a top 25 team LOSE to the Miami Redhawks??? This conference is so dysfunctional....
RootforRoo44
Amazing how far we've come since 2003 (#13 Miami vs. #20 BGSU). The MAC has become such garbage in football.
Blue & Gold
How the hell does a top 25 team LOSE to the Miami Redhawks??? This conference is so dysfunctional.... Dysfunctional is a good description. It's confusing and flat-out just doesn't make sense how we could have, no... SHOULD have beaten the MAC champs?! We're probably the worst team in all of D-1A football, get absolutely rolled by NIU, yet... whatever, it does no good to try and understand it. Again, the MAC is so pathetic it's just begging for a mediocre school to dominate the conference and garner illegitimate Top 25 rankings. Come on, iCoach! Make us that illegitimate Top 25 team! Like Marshall did? Yes, it does seem like it's not that difficult of a task. I've never liked the "Miami beat NIU, and we almost beat Miami, so maybe we could compete with NIU now" logic. It's one game, and it's a major upset. But I do feel as if we were playing better at the end of the season, despite the fact that it was also the easiest part of the schedule. The problem is, most of the guys that made things happen this year are graduating. If we had shown some improvement at the end of the year, and could attribute it to the growth of young players who might get even better in the future, I might be more inclined to buy into that thought. What really sickens me is that Miami did this with their backup QB. Wasn't this something like his 4th game? And he throws for 333 yards against NIU? So much for the "we need to give guys time to develop" argument. If someone is a good player, they will start to produce when given the opportunity. We need to be able to RECRUIT more of that level of player. Wagner certainly never had to wear the "just give him some time" label for very long. I'm tired of waiting for guys to develop and grow. Coaches can only do so much with guys who struggle to produce.

Dr Z
I can't wait to go to Miami's forum and read how for years their fans claim that they "backed in" to winning the championship.

They went 7-1 and won the East out right. We went 5-3 and were tied with two other teams and got into the championship game on some crazy 5th level tiebreaker. We got shutout by an AWFUL Army team that year. I don't know if there's much of a comparison.

Don't know but I bet we didn't even recruit him...he's from Ohio and played for a hugely successful program...Kettering Alter who is in the championship hunt on a regular basis why would Akron recruit him? That's not how we do things. See Akise Teague from Younsgtown Ursuline: 2008,09 & 10 State Champion. Over 500 yds and 7 TD's in those last two title games combined Ohio Mr.Football 2010 and just under a 3.0 student. Currently interested in 3 MAC schools(Miami, BG, OU) but none are Akron...did we recruit him? probably not but there is a damn good chance we will have to try to tackle him on a yearly basis for the next 4 years and he may be taking hand-offs from Boucher!
