MDZip
I could defintely see it. If I can get a few minutes away from work, I'm thinking about attending.
Z.I.P.
If Perry lands in PDX he could well find himself lining up with another former Akron Zip in the backfield. Cameron Knowles is making a comeback in Portland, after rehabbing his injured broken leg suffered in the 2009 season with the Timbers in USL. Cameron was a USL all-star caliber (not sure if they actually named a League XI) player during his three seasons at PG&E Park. I understand Timbers MLS jerseys are already available. Not sure if you can customize yet, but I'd look at putting AKRON on the back. I'd also look at getting in line for tickets to the first game between Timbers and Sounders. THAT one will be a legendary brawl.

johnnyzip84
This article could fit in a lot of places, but I decided to post it here. There are lots are interesting notes here. Among them: 1) According to sources familiar with the deal, United's first-round pick, Akron midfielder-defender Perry Kitchen, will earn around $170,000 in his rookie season. It's a modest base salary with a large signing bonus, which is typical for Generation Adidas players. Kitchen, who was offered a trial but not a contract by Belgian club Anderlecht before committing to MLS, signed a four-year pact, and as a GA, will not count against United's salary cap. 2) Commissioner Don Garber said the league is seriously considering a Pacific Northwest jamboree of sorts by scheduling regular season matches between the Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps in a span of a week or so (Seattle vs. Portland, Vancouver vs. Seattle, Portland vs. Vancouver). The idea is to create a unique event that would stand out in the otherwise mundane regular season. It wouldn't draw the attention of the NHL's Winter Classic but would generate buzz in the respective cities and soccer-mad region, and attract some national curiosity. If it's going to happen, 2012 is much more likely than this year because of logistical issues, one MLS official added. 3) It's Akron Coach Caleb Porter's world, we just live in it: Five of the first eight selections were from the NCAA champion Zips, and two more went in the second round. Yeah, well I'm still trying to find out how much of the "salary" includes the GA bonus $$. If the 170k is his total compensation, how much then is the bonus? When Steve Z. signed his GA deal, it was reported that the GA bonus was $160k as I recall. Or was it $170/175? The interesting thing here is the "modest base salary" part. My belief is that Don Garber is the best friend any club owner ever had. His clubs get their best young players' salaries paid for by sponsors -- what could be better than that? No wonder so many players sign GA deals, and no wonder why MLS loves their relationship with Adidas. MLS has a long way to go in this regard to become truly Major League . Zipmeister
After Nagbe. My favorite Kitchen quote from the article..... "To go back to Akron would actually be worse for me." Maybe we can use this in recruiting.

I understand Generation Adidas the same way as you, Z.I.P. Well, at least, I think I understand it. The weakness is that the individual team is not supporting its own roster. This is a warning sign of financial instability when salaries are subsidized by corporate sponsors. I agree; the MLS must improve to become a truly “major league”.
