Dance Team F-Bombs

Recommended Posts

Two consecutive home games the dance team has strutted their stuff to a hot new tune where the second line is "I don't give a f#ck."

Do they turn down the volume for that phrase? Yeah...and it's about as transparent as me using a "#" sign in place of the "u" above.

Who in their right mind thinks that song is appropriate for a family venue such as a college basketball game?

I looked across the arena at YouTube Tom, and he really seemed to like the profane ditty? Good for him.

My wife complained to UA. I can't believe she was the only one.

Who knew Dan Hipsher had a rap career?

So let me see if I understand what you're saying here: They play music when the dance team is on the floor?

No. I'm saying they blast "FUCK" when the dance team is on the floor. Sorry for the confusion.

I think these are the words. Is this clear enough? -

Yeah Yeah

Class Heat

I'm the sh*t

Yeah Baltimore Club Music

Yeah I'm The sh*t

I got them diamonds on my neck

Got patrone in my cup

If you wanna come and get it

Shawty I don't give a f*ck

See it's Friday night

And I just got paid

I done had a hard week

Now it's time To Celebrate

Well the DJ played my sh*t

Some of that club music sh*t

Make the girls wanna freak

Back it all up on my d*ck

See it's on tonight

Trying to leave with something right

I'm a grown @ss man

So Shawty you can spend the night

No offense to the dance team, but I pay as much attention to them as I do the remote controlled car race or that same guy that does the time out contests 60% of the time. That being said, it's not just the f-bombs that are the issue with that song. Like I said, haven't paid attention, but if that's right it should be a BIG embarassment to the University. What did they say at your wife's complaint, if you don't mind sharing?

I never pay attention to the words in rap songs. I assume that most of them contain profanity, but that UA would have the good sense to find ones without profanity to play for a family audience at the JAR. Apparently I was wrong, and UA is certainly wrong for allowing this to happen.

I do pay attention to the remote controlled car race, which UA obviously does not. The red car wins every time no matter who's controlling it because the yellow car is defective. The yellow car always spins out every time it reaches the far end and the "driver" tries to turn to come back to the finish line.

Let me be clear: The yellow car ALWAYS spins out and ALWAYS loses. The folks who run the race usually have to run out to midcourt, pick up the yellow car and carry it back because it becomes undriveable every time it makes the turn to return to the finish line.

The yellow car is as defective as the scoreboard that is programmed incorrectly. It always shows the wrong shooting percentage. When both teams have taken and made exactly the same number of shots, the scoreboard ALWAYS shows different shooting percentages.

We don't even need to get into the food and drink operation, because that's already been pointed out here many times.

There's a recurring bad message here with all of these obvious shortomings that could all be fixed with minimal effort. The message is that UA doesn't pay attention to the small details that are ridiculously obvious to casual observers.

Every good business with which I've ever been associated has had one or more people who continuously look for obvious problems like this and get them fixed.

Thank you for the note. I’ve copied two of our staff members who oversee the Dance Team so they can address this issue. It is certainly not our intention to have offensive lyrics as part of our game-day experience.

We appreciate your support and thanks again for writing.

Go Zips!

I'm with Zip Watcher.

Ok...Zipswatcher's reply was funny. But I agree with you 100%. I've always been bothered by a lot of the music they play during pregame for the same reason. They certainly play this type of music because it's "cool". But asking that to change because of the lyrics, and not wanting our kids to hear it, is a perfectly legitimate complaint. I don't think making a few changes would lessen the experience in any way.

Where to start..... First of all, I don't blame anyone for complaining. I'm not exactly a guy easily offended, but our society is already so vulgar I would like to think that someone going to a basketball game for two hours would be a nice break from the vulgarity. I guess UofA can't even spare a guy that.

Secondly, the note above. Is this guy the boss of the Athletic Department or not? If not, who is? If so, this guy is asleep at the wheel. His response should be as follows..."I also find the music offensive and I have addressed this matter with my staff in charge of the Dance Team. This music will not be played at the next game. I apologize for this matter happening." This guy is such an absolute joke I don't even know where to start.

None of this will happen when Akron gets an on-campus arena downtown! :D

Actually, it always seems to me that the shooting percentage for both teams is correct but the total shots for the visitor is not. The total shots for the visitor always shows to be the same as for the Zips. With that being said, I believe I saw during the Ohio game (what else was there worth watching) that it had finally been fixed! Maybe the Zips did do at least one thing right on Wednesday!

I always wondered what the glitch was that made the scoreboard % wrong. I played games trying to figure it out. Thanks for enlightening me on this point.

Just remember:

1) If it's too loud, YOU'RE TOO OLD.

2) If you're offended, YOU'RE TOO OLD.

What do you think your kids are listening to when mom and pop aren't around? What do you think they're watching? What do you think they're saying to each other?

That song, and the dance team, might well be the only things your kids think are relevant and/or interesting at the Zips BB games.

Of course kids sneak behind their parents and look at and listen to stuff they're not supposed to. I did it when I was a kid, and I doubt kids are much different today.

Is that a good reason for parents and other responsible adults to give up and encourage kids to be exposed to unnecessary crap by taking them to supposedly family friendly events and then not protesting what the kids were exposed to in the presence of their own parents?

It's the age old question of where do you draw the line?

They are saying all of those things. I can handle that. However, can a guy get a break from it for a couple of hours to watch a basketball game?
