GoZips88
I went to the ticket office today to get my tickets. When asked where I wanted to sit, I was able to buy lower level seats at center court with no problem. All seats are $10 btw. 1500 max. attendance for Tuesday. Since I'm the winner, whats my prize Bob Barker? I also was able to purchase two lower-level half-court seats. It was GREAT! I had a blast. I'm thinking about splurging for two lower-level season tickets next year. The three of us had back row, lower-level seats in section D last night and ended up moving back upstairs to our upper-chairbacks because we couldn't see the entire court. Should have taken row 2 when I had the chance but wanted to be back away from the court a bit. Man the JAR sucks. It was great to see and talk to Steve Swiech last night. The guy just loves and misses Akron and is a very genuine person. Love his enthusiasm and the way he handled his lack of playing time and departure from Akron. Spin
Ken Karman and Tom Gaffney were ripping apart the "fanbase" of the Zips for such a poor showing today on 1350. They both said they have just about give up on this team ever attracting the numbers a division I deserves. So I started to wonder. Is it the arena? Or is it being in the shadow of THE Ohio State University? Or is this just a bad basketball market? Oversaturated, with the Cavs, Vikings, and flushes? Not to mention the Wayne College Warriors. I too heard the discussion, right before the Lady Zips game. They werent exactly "ripping apart" the fanbase. But they were calling it like it was- Flat out embarrassing for a school this size with as many students ( getting in free) ( and only 10$bucks for a lower level seat) to draw 1431 fans. I was one of them and Im all but giving up on the apathetic fanbase we have. Yes the JAR sucks, but when a game means so much ( 1st round of MAC tourney) any self respecting person who calls themself a fan on here should make it! You can DVR american idol or whatever is on the CW and support the team. I realize some people had committments but come on ........... Captain Kangaroo
Why would Joe Akron come out to see Eastern Michigan/Akron? Dial, Head and Boykins are long, long gone. I posted the Round #1 attendance poll for a reason...you knew it would be low. We had no marketing of the team this season. No marquee wins for the umpteenth season. No star players. Barely 20 wins. We were coming off 2 huge losses, the latter on national television. We weren't exactly on a roll in March. Ask Karman or Gaffney -- if they had to pay for their ticket, would they have shown up for that game? I bet they wouldn't. I was there with my son. But I can't blame anyone else for staying at home on a work night, saving the $20 - $40 and listening to Frenchie.

However, the dismal turnout of season ticket holders was ridiculous. Section L was only about 10% full until they announced that the fans in the bleachers could move into the lower seats. At $10/seat it's SAD that our supposed fan base couldn't be bothered to come to a game played at the same time as any regular season weeknight game. The players deserve better than that, even if they are playing inconsistently. I never paid attention, but the Tommy Evans Lounge must have been closed. Were season tickets valid for the MAC Tourney game? They couldn't inflate the attendance number with tickets sold.
