Who do we want?

Recommended Posts

I hope we are playing east of the Mississippi this time.

What is a realistic match up? Who would we match up well with?

I like our chances against a west team that is unfamiliar and has to travel east. Such a team would be Washington.

I wouldn't mind playing a midlevel Big Ten, Big East, or ACC team either. Hey, Ohio beat Georgetown last year. There is no reason we can't if our shooters are on and we play a disciplined game.

Go Zips!

I would think some of the possibilities include Arizona, BYU, Purdue, and Florida State. Keep in mind if we have a 13, 14, or 15 seed that we will likely be playing an opponent that is close to their fanbase as the one thru 4 seeds are geographically protected as much as possible. I liked it better before the "pod" system inn the tourney. It used to be that if an underdog was competing well that the whole arena would start to side with them.

I'd love to make it up to a 12 seed but also know that something that high is just a pipe dream THIS year.

If we have to play #2, I'd prefer San Diego State (although not all the way out in Tucson). Seems the 15-2 upsets are generally teams that aren't used to being up that high (see Iowa St - Hampton and South Carolina - Coppin St). Maybe they'll confuse MAC and MEAC.

ESPN has us as a #16 against Notre Dame

SI.com as a #15 against San Diego State

By the way, some d-bag on NBC Sports felt it was necessary to insult us: http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/42053783/ns/...ege_basketball/

This is a good thing. All I want to hear now is Akron doesn't stand a chance. Akron doesn't have any playmakers. Only OU can win a ncaa tourney game. Our center is just a beanpole. We were just lucky the ball bounced our way in the MAC. The lower our seed, the more overlooked we will be.

Any MAC Champion that was able to also put up at least 20 D-1 wins should get at least a 14 seed at worst. The MAC may not be the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, or even as good as the MVC or A-10 but it isn't some bottom-feeder conference ranked in the bottom 7 or 8 leagues either.

The only way a MAC Champ should ever get a 15 or 16 is if it was a true Cinderella team that won the conference tourney. By that I don't mean a 20+ win Akron, I mean if somebody like this year's Central Michigan made an unbelievable run to a title.

Just did a little background research on the writer, Justice B. Hill. He is a former Ohio University journalism professor. No wonder he talks up last year's Bobcats and bashes Akron and Can't State.

Question to all of the major and mid-major coaches out there - how many of you would like to play Akron on something resembling a neutral court?

....

...

Yeah, didn't think too many of you would. Call any time though - plenty of early-season November and December dates available for 2011 and beyond.

Bigger-name, early-season tourneys? You bet - again, give us a call ... assuming you have the 'blessing' of the aforementioned coaches.

GO ZIPS!!!

Opinion doesn't matter. Twice KD and company won in the NIT when opinion said otherwise. Time to step up and prove this guy is a jealous d-bag. Remember, you can't spell D+*CHEBAG without OU!

Justice B. Hill writes regularly for NBCSports.com and is a freelance writer based in the Cleveland area.

Hmmm ... would love to see Justice B. Hill's private list of "My Favorite Teams in Northeast Ohio." Let me take a stab at it ...

3. Can't State

2. Cleveland State

1. tosu

"NBC..." - I should have stopped right there and moved on to the next thread.

Apparently while he was an assistant professor at OU, he was also teaching someplace else because his bio says "Taught journalism courses in editing, ethics, news writing and feature writing as a tenure-track professor for one of the elite journalism programs in the country."

P.S. That "tenure-track" thing at OU didn't work out too well for Justice as would be the case for just about anyone whose formal education ceased at the masters level.
