It always amazes me how quickly momentum can shift and how much can happen in the last couple minutes and even seconds of a game with the clutch shots, timeouts, free throws made/missed, and almost inevitably a bad mistake (fumbled inbound pass, dribble off the leg, missed bunny, etc.) If we can hang around on Friday, it bodes well for us since our guys can remain calm and hit some big shots.

The Big East get 11 bids.

The MAC got one.

MAC teams have a hard time scheduling Top 25 teams.

the ONLY way to improve is to beat top teams in the tournaments.

When you can do that with some consistency, people will notice.

Did any one notice the co-incidence between Cant's opponent and the Zips opponent?

Both schools are named after the Blessed Virgin Mary. Notre Dame literally means. "Our

Lady". Both schools are Irish oriented. Both schools are Catholic institutions. And, you

can bet that the Blessed Mother is none to pleased to with ND for sucking up to obama

the most anti-life man to ever hold the Presidential office. I believe she is rooting for the Zips.

Is that you, Gerry?

And now the Flashes get to fly all the way back across the country to play another Catholic school in Fairfield, CT. How do tall basketball players fit into airline seats? They must get business class tickets. At least they will have the frequent flyer miles to compensate for the jet lag.

I think that's the point. I say it all the time. We win and Ken+ wins. We've both been winners for years. And on a national level, nothing changes. And it may have deteriorated. The unfortunate thing right now is that the Big Dance games and possibly the late round NIT games are the only tournament games that present the kinds of opportunites this time of the year to change any of that. I just wish people would stop fooling themselves into thinking that winning alone is the solution.

We need to pull off some major road victories in the OOC part of our schedule since we can't schedule those games at home. And the Big Dance is our only other opportunity to get a SIGNIFICANT victory that will get noticed. And since these games are on neutral courts, they may actually be the best opportunities we have.

And again, I still won't root for Ken+ :D

I was following the game on my phone Gametracker before the start of the Hawaii-Portland game last night. A handful of Portland fans in the seats seemed interested in how their nemesis was doing. They appeared shocked to hear the Gaels had gone down to a mere MAC program. And, frankly, I was pretty doggoned surprised too. I thought St Mary's should have been dancing rather than the UABs/VCUs (Sorry Shaka). But hey, this is what makes college basketball exciting. Something you can never say about the pro game.

I watched the whole game. It looked like a typical MAC game to me. St. Marys star player was awful. The commentators described how he seemed to have hit some kind of wall a few weeks ago and has played like crap since. Justin Greene kept StM in the game by turning the ball over everytime he got it in the lane. But he made the layup at the end that proved to be the game winner. So far,the MAC is undefeated in post season play . :)

I know a guy who used to go to Akron but moved out west about a year ago. He had this posted on facebook, I thought I would share:

Can't State's basketball team is here at the Denver airport. Just told them, "Hey, go Zips." I have no idea who's who but someone didn't like that.

Outstanding! :thumb: Harassing Can't State is always in season. :screwks:

A truism. They now notice Butler, Gonzaga and George Mason. Its a start.

The thing that's really shocking to me about some of these posts is the impact that some of you think these wins will produce for the respect of our conference. A first round CBI/CIT victory's impact means almost nothing, and a first round NIT win isn't all that much better.
From Newsnet5's Andy Baskin:

I just want to explain to my fellow Can't State alumni who have harped on me for enjoying the ride Akron is on. You need Akron to play well in the NCAA tourney. It is good for Can't State and it is good for the MAC. The MAC moved up two RPI spots this week already because Can't, Buffalo, and Ohio University won.

The fact the MAC gets little respect, like Akron as a 15 seed and only one team in, is based on a few things. MAC schools not willing to schedule tougher games and universities willingness to spend a little extra cash to bring in top teams. But, the NCAA can't argue what the MAC has done in the past few days. If Akron can can pull off a monumental upset, it's good for Can't and it's good for the MAC. Fear the Roo, at least when they are not facing Can't.
