UAZip0510
Nikola, First of all, congratulations on this season. You took your game to a new level, and moved yourself from being a good role player to a team leader. You are one of the big reasons why Akron is playing Notre Dame tomorrow in the NCAA Tournament. I understand that you are graduating, and that you are anxious to return home to Serbia. However, please think long and hard about that decision before you make it. Think about leading the defending MAC Champions as a senior. Think about how good this team would be...how deep this team would be if you stayed. It would be a team that not only would be a favorite in the MAC, but also one that could do some damage in the NCAA Tournament: C-Marshall/Euton F-Cvetinovic/Egner F-Treadwell/Harney/Green G-Diggs/McClanahan/Gilliam G-Abreu/Walsh/ Think about how great it felt to stand in front of the the crowd at the Q with the Serbian flag, and how awesome it would be to do it again next season. You have an opportunity to be a leader on a Zips team that takes this program to the next level. If you decide to leave, we will certainly understand. Zips "insiders" on this forum have already said you're as good as gone. Even so, I hope you reconsider, and that we see you next year at the JAR. It could turn out to be an incredibly special season if you are there. LETS GO ZIPS! BEAT ND!

UAZip0510
From Rasor's Blog: "I went into the Akron locker room to talk to Cvetinovic. He said it’s time to roll up the sleeves and start working toward next year. That naturally led to a follow-up question: “Are you even coming back next year?” He said, “No comment.” McClanahan, who was sitting nearby, chimed in, “He’s coming back.” That’s going to be the big question heading into next season. Losing Cvetinovic would mean Akron would need to replace three starters and two key bench players."
yazan07
Here is my question: If it was a sure-thing that Nik is out of here, then wouldn't we have heard rumors of a fifth new guy next year? We know we are losing four seniors and we know they are being replaced by the two freshmen and the two non-qualifiers, but if Nik leaving was a done deal then I think we would have started hearing rumors about another new guy, right? Or is that not necessarily a given?
zippy5
If Nik stays, we can win 30 games next year. Nik, Diggs, Zeke, a matured Abreu, Mclanahan...hell of a starting five, with the new guys who could potentially be very good. Already looking forward to it. Or is that not necessarily a given? If Nik is for sure gone all that means is both of the non-qualifiers will get scholarships if they qualify. You get 13 scholarships each season. Next year without Nik: Abreu McClanahan Walsh Ibitayo Justice Diggs Gilliam Green Egner Euton Harney Treadwell Marshall Next year with Nik: Abreu McClanahan Walsh Ibitayo Justice Diggs Gilliam Green Cvetinovic Egner Euton Harney/Treadwell Marshall The real question becomes IF Nik stays, as Rasor's blog seems to hint he might, what becomes of the two non-qualifiers? You can certainly have one (or both) of them as non-scholarship players if you would like. Roberts didn't get a scholarship until last year. But if you are going to give a scholly to one, which one do you go with? Or do you leave both of them off scholarship and try to add a third recruit to the class or bank the scholarship until next year? It is an interesting conundrum, although one I am sure KD wouldn't mind having to face so long as it means Nik returns for his senior year. zippy5
I'd look for him to give the ole boot to one of the returnees if Nik comes back. Is there a realistic chance of Green ever being a contributor? Not knocking the kid, I really know nothing about him.

There is going to be a log-jam at his position if Nik stays and Harney and Treadwell both get eligible. Conceivably he could be burried pretty far down the depth chart. This is true, but maybe Euton could take a redshirt year. I still think he will be a player. Or at least I hope so. Kid's a winner, and I wanna see our 4/5 man step out and hit some threes

I don't know the rules but this might work for a year. Didn't we give a partial to Roberts? Just a thought. Nik, PLEASE COME BACK!!!!!!!!! ZachTheZip
No partial scholarships. Egner and Euton could transfer and take next year as a redshirt year if they sit out, so they still get three years afterward. Not saying either of them will leave, just a possibility. yazan07
Just hope Nik doesn't wait until July to announce his decision, and do it in a one-hour special where he lets us know he's taking his talents to Serbia. If someone were to do something like that, it would be awful

And he could get some washed up hack sports anchor to headline the show. On a completely unrelated issue, who are Harney and Treadwell? Don't make me Google now, people! I honestly can't see Egner tranferring. KD has spoken very highly of him, lately. Every indication is he will be in line for significant minutes next year. Especially with McKnight, Bardo and possibly Nik out of the picture. I'm sure both guys are frustrated with the situation this year, but I think if you are Josh Egner you can see a light at the end of the tunnel. I would be very concerned about Dakotah Euton though. Hardly a peep was said about him down the stretch last year, and I don't think anyone really knows where he stands in the program right now. Blue & Gold
I think that most of us are secretly crossing our fingers and hoping that Green transfers out. From what I've heard he probably isn't going to be much of a contributor at this level. And I think he knows it. He could transfer down a division and be a star. It'd be more fun for him - and open up a scholly for one of the non-qualifiers.
Dave in Green
Not knowing for sure what the Serb is going to do complicates any speculation about next season. Maybe we need two parallel threads discussing next season -- one with the Serb and one without him.
