77 seconds of generalities is all I have to talk about regarding Zips football. I could have written Ianello's sonnet. "We had a really spirited practice...guys were flying to the ball...the practice facility is really nice, but we hope to get outdoors...hope to see you at the Tap House." WTF is THAT?

Zips fans are unfortunately WAY more informed about the lying, weasel Jim Tressel. Thus they spend time discussing his situation more than the Zips spring.

Is Moore a legit competition to Nicely? Beats the hell out of me...I haven't seen Moore, and I have no idea how he's doing. No one from UA has anything to say about him.

Is B. Alexander fully recovered from his knee injury? Beats the hell out of me...I have no idea how he's doing.

How's the transfer DL from Michigan State looking...I'm expecting him to dominate this fall...is he tossing our incumbent OL's around like rag dolls? Is he out of shape? Beats the hell out of me...I have no idea how he's doing.

The awesome information packet of 77 second Ianello videos and a Spring roster .pdf makes me want to replay old Zips soccer and basketball games on my DVR. It doesn't get pumped, or informed about football.

I feel your pain and moreso your frustration. I am thoroughly amazed at the optimism that appears on this board regarding our football program. It points out to me again and again that there are truly diehard fans here who are searching for anything to cheer about when it comes to football. Now reality sets in. There is no substance to the program. We were lousy under Ianello last year and any optimism is based solely on hope, not any evidence of performance. Ianello sees and end product but has no clue as to how to get there. That is why he can't be specific because he doesn't know himself.

But he's a great recruiter

He might have more of a clue than you'd expect. Here's how that plays out...

As a Zips fan, I am going to start circulating a rumor throughout the college ranks that I, trimmy10, am a great "recruiter" to the extent that I now have reputation that proceeds me. I will be in and among many traditional and/or successful programs, but cannot directly claim any of those accomplishments for myself. I will then apply for and be awarded the head coaching position at Can't where I will quietly but effectively run the program into the ground by speaking vaguely about potential while producing no results. While I may not look like I know what I'm doing, I actually do, and it involves making a historically deplorable program epically worse. After 3 years and no results, I am fired and happily move on with my $1,000,000+ in salary along with whatever severance package in hand knowing that I have single-handedly annihilated my arch rivals program for five years and made myself pseudo-rich doing it. By the time I leave, even the most loyal fans are doubting their continued support. Mission accomplished.

And what is REALLY scary...if things play out the way I anticipate, the only thing missing between our situation and the hypothetical one is a link between Can't and iCoach. Another year of this and I think Can't should start paying his salary. At least then we'd be relieved of the financial burden.

I don't sense any optimism, yet I know most really want the team to be good.

I love the comment about there being no substance. I agree completely. For years, we have convinced ourselves that all we needed was a new practice facility and a new stadium. Well, we got those and now look at the program. The substance has always been missing. What is the substance? Our housing bubble has burst. We built and built and built without knowing what we were going to do after everything was built. There was no substance to our program just like there was no substance to our economy during the housing explosion. We need good players backed up by a good coach. We have had a lot of bad/average and a couple good players, but we haven't had a great player since Dwight Smith. We need substance.

My perspective is a little different on Coach I. He is probably a good coach and knows his offense well at least. I don't know him so I can comment on his personality, and I could care less about his personality as long as he can win. The problem with Coach I is the type of offense he wants to put on the field isn't suitable for college football in 2011. I agree with the defense though. We are never going to score enough points to keep up with high scoring offenses and win a lot of games. Anyone watch the Rose Bowl last January? We want to be Wisconsin and the good teams in the MAC play like TCU. We have a philosophical problem and it started with our AD who thought you can field a team like Wisconsin everywhere and win. I'd rather field a team like TCU and REALLY win.

Some of the posters here love to bash the Buckeyes any chance they get. Luckily for them they've got a legitimate reason now.

It isn't luck. From the Clarrett "gettin' his goose on", to Troy Smith's $500 handshakes, to telling Erik Howard, a Zips commit, to back out and go to a Prep school, everyone knew Tressel would eventually get exposed in a big way.

OMG, that is one of the funniest things I have seen in a LONG time! AWESOME!

Wish I had read this post before I commented about the Ianello updates on another thread. I inadvertantly ripped off your summary of the information we are getting from the daily reports.

I agree 100 percent with you on the lack of substance. We want to know how the players we haven't had a chance to see yet are looking and how the returnees are progressing.
