xu9697
I am more interested in who will be RG. Coach I says that is just as important as QB and TB.
Dr Z
There is nothing wrong with letting the competition play out. The same thing is going on at Texas, Miami and Notre Dame. Sometimes the coaching staff makes a QB decision early that is wrong. That's what happened to Texas A&M last year if you will recall.Sometimes coaches have to flip a coin right before the season to figure out who the QB is. Happened with the Browns if you'll recall. GP1
What if the newcomer is really close to appearing to be clearly the superior player, and appears to be improving on a steady basis? Wouldn't a coach want to put off the decision as long as possible to see if the newcomer can continue improving until he's clearly the superior player? This is a good point. Nicely has taken his biggest strides and is just about as good as he is going to be. If the coaches think the players are equal and there is a bigger up side witih one player, go with the up side. I don't know who is winning the battle or even how close it is. May the best man win.
Blue & Gold
Everybody on special teams sucks, according to Ianello. Now this is a good interview. Again, I like RI's candid honesty in this piece. Makes me like the guy. Sounds like we still have place-kicking troubles.
Lee Adams
The entire team is pretty much a work in progress. Is Moore really putting that much pressure on Nicely to be the starter? Maybe. But,we need to see if a year into the new system allows Nicely to improve on the field. Unfortunately, with few proven weapons on offense including the running game and receivers it may take a month into the season before we see significant improvement from last year. The development of a consistent running game is going to be critical. Hopefully, Chisholm is the real deal and Alexander can stay healthy. In this offense thats going to help whomever ends up at QB get settled in. No running game and the QB's can't do what they need to do,get the ball downfield consistently. The defense is what it is. The secondary still seems scary to me. The front seven could be solid but obviously needs to come up with a pass rush. Wouldn't it be a hoot if we saw Wagner blitzing some. I know they need him in the middle of the field but maybe they could occasionally move him around. Make him harder for the offense to find. If this team is playing better in October than September this coach MAY be on the right track.

Maybe.I really hope that somebody from ZN goes to practice on Saturday since it's open to the public and writes an opinion here. I'm out of town, or I would peep it out myself. Wouldn't it be awesome to be wearing these all season?

K92
If Clayton Moore can make good things happen, I think they should pass out Lone Ranger masks at the gate. But Doctor, mango beer? Aww Hell Naw! How did you even hear about that foul concoction?

So since I'm a Pittsburgh native, I'll take you up on that mango IC light! ps. If I don't like it, I can always give it to my wife

akronzips71
Moore should be the starter until he blows himself out of the job. 1-11 with Nicely. PN7 sucks, and I think everyone knows that. He was a replacement for a replacement. There is NO downside to starting Moore. What is the worst that can happen, 1-11? 0-12? Been there done that with PN7. Time to move on. He just does not have the arm. Sometimes you just have to take a chance. Moore could be REALLY good, and we need to find out, not leave a potential winner on the bench. I was hoping that CM would have clearly separated himself from PN by this point in time. PN has NFL-caliber strength and size. But PN's lack of accuracy was an absolute killer last year. It appeared to demoralize the entire O side of the ball (at least the WR crew). The WR's did drop some passes, I'll give PN that. But not that many. Usually the body language of the WR's spoke "I'm absolutely shocked" if a pass was delivered both on time and accurately. Usually PN underthrew, overthrew or threw behind his WR's. Even if a pass was completed, the pass was rarely thrown in-stride to the WR to optimize the possibility of yards-after-the-catch, which is usually where most of the yards are made on a pass play. by mid-season it looked like the WR's were simply going through the motions, not honestly expecting PN to be able to accurately deliver the ball. Doug Snyder
Moore should be the starter until he blows himself out of the job. 1-11 with Nicely. PN7 sucks, and I think everyone knows that. While I believe that Moore is the better QB and better leader...I am afraid that we would lose Nicely if he lost the competition at this point. If Moore was clearly the better player and proved it on the field, then I think Nicely would accept the demotion. I think it is better to start Nicely and keep challenging Moore to learn the system better and reduce his errors. While at the practice on Saturday, I sat with a parent of one of players (a key player on offense). He said that Nicely was the more consistent player and that Moore took more risks ...could have more big plays but also more mistakes (according to his son). ICoach said something similar in a video last week. He believed that Nicely knew the system better and would be the starter. I am disappointed that Moore has not separated himself but it is sometimes hard to do at practice. Even if Nicely starts...Moore will get a chance. There will be injuries and ICoach may give him a series or 2 to see him in game situations. I know that people often see what they want to see (just ask Zach)...but I just don't see Nicely as a team leader. I think I see that in Moore. In the end...I hope who ever starts does a good job. I believe the success of this year's team is dependent on having an effective QB.
