Lee Adams
I have been trying to come up with some OBJECTIVE reasons pointing to a Zips win on Saturday. Now the fact that its a rivalry game and anything can happen is not objective.Offensively both teams are lets say, challenged. Which offense can move against the other defense w/o making mistakes? Can the Zips run against Can't when Can't is going to stop the run first. Can the Zips play their 'game of the season' on defense and keep Can't from running the ball?Defensively Can't appears significantly better front to back. If they force Moore or whoever into throwing a lot its going to be a huge problem. This is a better defense than CMU. If the Zips can't stop the run which has been a problem this season well....Special teams don't hold much hope for the Zips either. Coverage and returns have not been good this season.Anything can happen but, help!

K92
I am in the same boat as you, Lee. Hard to come up with any reasons to expect a victory. They need to pick it up in every aspect of the game if the Zips have a shot. I would like to see a replay of the 2009 game. Akron had only one win (against I-AA) going into that game and came up big. Unfortunately, Brookhart doesn't coach here anymore and Martin doesn't coach there anymore. Two strikes against the Zips.

skip-zip
We won't (hopefully) have someone on the field this year who is boneheaded enough to try to push the ball out of the end zone in an inexplicable attempt to avoid a safety by giving up a touchdown.Come on folks!! Ken+ will ALWAYS be beatable. No matter how bad we are.

I contend it was indeed an explicable attempt.

Avoiding that type of costly mistake would increase our chances of winning this year, which is the subject of this thread.I can't recall ever posting an "I told you so" statement on this board, if that's what you are implying. It is what it is. Regardless of who did it. And this has to be about the 100th post that criticized the dumb and costly nature of that play last year. Yes, I knew some things about him before he came here that suggested to me that he may not succeed. And I've shared it with fellow fans, both on and off of this board. Others who had knowledge of him have done the same. How many posts do you see on here every day that relate to talent evaluations, and criticism and praise for play on the field? Just about every post?
Captain Kangaroo
Could there be a more memorable, or more costly play from last years game?Yes. Ianello going for the field goal at halftime, when he was in the redzone, and had 3 time outs to work with. Nicely was trying to make a play. He's getting snowed-under by 4 K.e.n.t. defenders. I can't fault him. It sucked...I wish he didn't do it...but I can't use that specific play as some sort of definitive moment. It's funny...PN7 threw a beautiful 50yard pass to Suel at the end of the Miami game...hit Suel right between the 1 and the 5 on his jersey...a sure TD...and Suel dropped it. Was that Nicely's fault? Seems so.To be fair, I'm sure some of Ole Miss' 16 incompletions (out of 19 throws) were the WR's fault too. The safety puts us down 6, with a chance to still win the game. And, if you recall, the ball wasn't shoveled out of the end zone because he was getting "snowed under by 4 defenders". They had already knocked the ball away from him in the end zone, and he successfully recovered the fumble. It was at that point that he mysteriously decided to try to push it back across the goal line. I will also contend that we should have challenged the play, which should have resulted in a safety because he had clearly recovered the fumble and was down. The play should have been dead at that point. After a disasterous performance with 3 ints, one for a pick-6, he still would have had one more chance to redeem himself and win the game. GP1
Here is the only hope I can offer.Last year, I didn't believe it was possible to lose every game and we didn't. I also find it almost impossible to believe a team can go winless in MAC play. Because of that, the Zips will win this weekend. Can't is the kind of team a team who is bound to win at least one game in the MAC beats.Go Zips!
Lee Adams
We are grasping at straws folks. Given the play of the 2 teams this year and particularly recently, there seem to be few if any objective reasons the Zips are suddnely going to change character on offense or defense. Only way Zpis win is if Can't turns the ball over multiple times and the Zips hit some big plays.

Come on football Zips, hop on the winning wave Men's Hoops started Wednesday and Futbol will continue tonight! Yep. Weather looks good. I encourage everyone to come out to the game early and tailgate. Lot 9 chili cookoff will be on, so come have some good food and drink. I am bringing a large pot of chili, a cooler full of beer, and get this...THREE GUESTS!!! Totally unbelievable! I was planning on traveling solo again. This has got to be a good omen. The Zips are going to get the wagon wheel back.
