bUAkronG
Sitting here with the Kentucky v. Kansas game on, and Dick Vitale was talking about the upsets early in the season, including CSU's win over Vandy, and he said something along the lines of "how about all those tweets, lots of tweets, from the man Lebron James about Akron beating Mississippi State." I know it was pretty short but still nice to hear in a game that didn't feature a school from Ohio.
Blue & Gold
Real nice! Without professional sports, any chance Akron has to make a blip on the nation's radar is a real positive for the community! Thanks, Dickie-V, baby!!! (& Thanks yet again, 'Bron. Keep shouting out to Akron, baby!)

Without professional sports, any chance Akron has to make a blip on the nation's radar is a real positive for the community! Thanks, Dickie-V, baby!!! (& Thanks yet again, 'Bron. Keep shouting out to Akron, baby!) Amen. Some LeBron haters are in complete denial about his ability to help get publicity for the UofA. Yet, if LeBron doesn't tweet this to his millions of followers, it likely would have never gotten the attention of a major sports commentator. Excellent example of how that connection witih Bron works for us. As I said in another thread, we might hopefully get a good indication of how much this NBA lockout benefits college basketball if there is a dramatic increase in the interest in the Akron vs. Cleveland State baskteball game. Will Cleveland area NBA fans sit on the sidelines? Or, will they turn their attention towards some D-1 college games in the area during the lockout? Any chance the NBA lockout could persuade the NCAA to allow these guys to play college ball for a year? Imagine what LeBron could do on the Zips roster. I know....that's a big dream. K92
Just heard another Akron reference on XM91...Eddie George said he could probably suit up this weekend and run for 75 yards against the Zips. Yes, I am being serious.
Dr Z
Eddie George said he could probably suit up this weekend and run for 75 yards against the Zips.If this is the Eddie George that used to play with the Titans, he is full of cr@p! No way he couldn't get 100 yards. If this is some 32 year old factory worker named Eddie George, than he is probably right. PS Even bad references are still a reference, another plus for the marketing dept. They are killing this week.

The same LeBron James that said he would have played for Ohio State had he gone to college? It's great that LeBron tweeted about us, but I truly believe the win would have received attention no matter what. Honestly, sometimes I wish the LeBron connection wasn't there...and I'm not just talking about his embarrassing on-court playoff performances. It sucks when our Zips do something great like make the NCAA Tournament, and all the announcers do is talk about how KD was LeBron's coach half of the time. I think he overshadows our accolades more than anything, and he has had a minimal impact on our program.
Blue & Gold
The same LeBron James that said he would have played for Ohio State had he gone to college? Eh, keep in mind that LeBron said that when he was being interviewed by some talking head while on Columbus State's campus in front of, IIRC, about a thousand Columbus students - it was in some meeting hall, or something. He said it, waited for the crowd to cheer, & then laughed & wanted to move on to the next question. In reality, from the time LeBron was a high school sophomore he was NEVER, EVER even vaguely considering going to school. Anywhere. Not even UA w/ his best friends Dru, Rome & Willie and Coach D. It simply wasn't an option. He pimps Akron.

Captain Kangaroo
Lots of people follow Lebron on Twitter. If he's talking-up the Zips, it's a good thing. Love him, hate him, question why he donates little if any money to the Zips Program... all that stuff is irrelevant to the main point. When the most notable pro basketball in the world is tweeting about the Zips - it is a good thing. Period.

scottditzen
We've been a football punching bag on all of the local shows this year. But it's not even in a mean-spirited way either, more like "I feel sorry for Akron they really are terrible" type way. But as with soccer, b-ball will be our redemption. Just heard another Akron reference on XM91...Eddie George said he could probably suit up this weekend and run for 75 yards against the Zips. Yes, I am being serious.
