ejcool27
http://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/soccer-men/d1 I'm pretty sure we are away. If you look at JMU vs. UCONN -- UCONN is on the right b/c they are the higher seed. Charlotte is on the right too. So, they must be the higher seed and ergo the home team. I think charlotte does host but that's not why...I believe it's the higher RPI hosts, but you never know it's the NCAA! They get more money if the game is at Akron. Dave in Green
Is there a clearly defined process for who gets home games in soccer, or can the NCAA wing it and add intangibles? This all seems a little crazy.

ZachTheZip
Is there a clearly defined process for who gets home games in soccer, or can the NCAA wing it and add intangibles? This all seems a little crazy. I think both schools have to make a bid to host. I would have to think that Akron can put together a more enticing bid to the NCAA than Charlotte. anonymous hippo
Creighton smacked NIU around. 3-0. They're out. I love our bracket. I'm scared the least by anyone in it. I thought we got a helluva bracket. Easy drive to Charlotte straight down I-77 from Akron. Hope it's an early-afternoon game time if we have to play down there. I'd like to make the trip too, if it's at Charlotte, or Akron for that matter. (cross fingers for @ Akron!)

GoZips88
How refreshing to see an Akron team outperform their expectations instead of underperform a la the basketball team. +1 big time They bookended an otherwise very disappointing 4-day stretch. Even Lady Zip win over Howard was a bit of a downer as they should not have struggled like they did against them. Thank you Caleb and the boys. Really came to play tonight. Really got after the ball and the game really shouldn't have been that close if we finish a couple more of those opportunities.

Dave in Green
How refreshing to see an Akron team outperform their expectations instead of underperform a la the basketball team. Actually, the Zips soccer team did somewhat underperform in the regular season from what Zips soccer fans expected. Now in the NCAA championship tournament they are starting to live up to the expectations of a defending national champion. Hopefully the basketball team will also do well in the post-season. mes102
I think the way it works, is that if it's two unseeded teams playing each other in Sweet 16 or Elite Eight, you have to place a bid to host, and then the NCAA chooses from there. I'm sure NCAA will pick us as they have to be drooling at the money they would be getting from us hosting an NCAA tournament game again. But yet again, wouldn't surprise me if we're on the road sunday at Charlotte...

But yet again, wouldn't surprise me if we're on the road sunday at Charlotte... You are correct... from the ncaa men's soccer handbook. An evaluation will be made of institutional facilities to determine if they are acceptable for championship play. Selection of host sites will be based partly on the quality of the playing facility. A facility evaluation form will be made available on the NCAA website to the directors of athletics of all institutions and will be one of the tools used in making this determination. Institutions interested in hosting are to submit the form online by the indicated deadline. Institutions submitting proposed budgets for preliminary rounds must have played the majority of their home games at the site listed on the facility evaluation form. Institutions with inadequate playing surfaces (e.g., inadequate artificial surface, minimum dimensions, etc.) may request a waiver of the policy. Site Selection. The site selection criteria for the Division I men’s soccer championship are as follows (see Appendixes F and G): 60 percent Committee ranking 40 percent (1) Facility— Quality of field surface (60 percent) Evaluation of facility (30 percent) Game management (10 percent) So, basically the ncaa chooses. We'll see how that goes.
