Dave in Green
@Big Zip, some really good thinking there about the potential for Tressel to attract additional funding into UA from Ohio donors. Tressel is really pretty unique among potential football coaches in his ability to do something like that for UA. Even those who are not Tressel fans should not be in denial about the funding factor. And if he were to raise the profile of UA on a sustainable basis for the future, he truly would become a legendary figure in Akron history. This is all speculative, and the odds are against it happening. But Zips football fans deserve to be able to dream big after all the suffering they've been through. Let's enjoy the dreaming while we can before reality sets in. RowdyZip
Not that he'd say, "Oh, I'm fired," but in the post game today, coach seemed pretty confident that he and his staff would be back next year. He asked for patience and stated that he's had one recruiting class thus far, and the staff is working on the second. I feel bad for the guy, but I just don't see how this gets better. It's not as if they're knocking the ball out of the park by having top 50 recruiting classes, or even top-of-the-MAC rankings. As little stock as I put in recruiting sites, it's hard to be optimistic at all when we're ranked middle-to-bottom of the pack in the MAC by all standards. I guess we'll see what happens in the coming days...

Big Zip
He doesn't have a freaking clue how to recruit the MAC. If he isn't gone you will not see me at any Zips football games next year. This guy still thinks he is at Notre Dame and he is trying to land the same recruits....look a the recruiting feed. For the most part it reads offered....then such and such accepts offer to Michigan State or something like that....very few end up at schools similar to ours He is a complete embarassment to this University and should have to walk home from Kzoo. I can take getting our heads kicked in by the big boys, but when your own conference does it time and again -- I'm out.
skip-zip
Again, everything I've heard says he's coming back. But, with what's happened the last few weeks, I'd like to hope that things have changed. And just for the record, I am now 100% on the "Fire Him Now" bandwagon. I've never been this embarrassed. K92
How long until the trigger is pulled? He has got to be gone. The team has completely quit on him. If he comes back for year 3, you will be able to hear the crickets chirping in the Info. Who in their right mind is going to pay to come back and watch any more of this steaming pile of shit? Whether I am in my right mind or not is still in question.

If he is gone and the decision has been made to can him, they may as well announce it now. If there's no word within 48 hours, I'm afraid that means he's moving back. akronzips71
How can you possibly recruit anyone to play for the worst team in Div 1? All we can get are losers who don't get any other offers. What we NEED is a nationally known coach who can attract players who want to be coached by someone with players in the NFL. GP1
What we NEED is a nationally known coach who can attract players who want to be coached by someone with players in the NFL. We need a coach who can attract MAC level players and turn them into something. A big splash is not needed.
Zipsrifle
If the guy is a recruiting guru, then does it make sense to keep him on as a recruiter and get a new head coach until he finds a new job? No question in my mind, the guy needs to go as HC. Our team packed it in a long time ago. Don't know if I'm going to keep my season tickets or not, maybe I'll just give the money to the Rifle Team instead.
GP1
If the guy is a recruiting guru, then does it make sense to keep him on as a recruiter and get a new head coach until he finds a new job? NO. He can't recruit. His recruits don't have the base athletic talent to win in the MAC.
Zipmeister
Tressel did it at Youngstown State...I assume it requires strong Associate ADs. His suspension was a NFL suspension because they suspended Pryor....this suspension had nothing to do with the NCAA penalty -- they are completely separate. Good one.

ZachTheZip
Just thinking here. What if we fire Wistrcill, hire Tressel as the new AD, and then he conducts a coaching search and concludes that he's the best candidate for the head coaching job?
