GoZips
The point guard position is going to fall to Deji Ibitayo. Please give him a little time to come up to speed. Deji is quite capable and will excel soon.
akronzips71
that sucks. What are we doing, taking lessons from the football team?
Dave in Green
Now we can officially kiss any NCAA tournament at-large bid goodbye. With the suspension and injuries, the Zips can be expected to lose a number of games they might have otherwise won. They can still be really good by the end of the season. Quickzips
A season that started with so much optimism has quickly found itself on shaky ground. It looks like from the article that Q will be moving over to PG for tonight at least, with Deji as his backup. I would expect either Chauncey are Harney to start at SF. It is really unfortunate, as PG is the one area where the Zips didn't come into the season with much depth this year. I suspect that tonight will tell us a lot more about this team though. Will we use this as an opportunity to rally the troops and knock off a couple of good wins, or will we find ourselves shaken by this recent turn of events. I'm hopefully that KD can pull the guys together one more time and make something good from a bad situation.
UAZip0510
The silver lining - I appreciate, as I did last year with McKnight, that our program does not ignore off-the-court issues. I never want us to become Can't in that aspect.
GP1
I'm interested to see how much fan overreaction to this story there may be. So far, all we know he is suspended. With the amount of rules they have to follow, it could be anything from missing a class to something much more serious like a law violation. Perhaps he had salmon with a bagel; however, that is only an ncaa violation, not a University violation. In big time college sports, things like this happen. I'm leaning toward shrugging this off. The MBB program has been pretty clean over the past few years. Over time, the percentages catch up with everyone and they just caught up with us. GP1
What are we doing, taking lessons from the football team? This is the second suspension in two years for the BB team. I can't remember the last suspension the football team has had and they have almost six times the number of players on scholarship as the BB team. Sure you want to go down this road? The biggest impact is, if he is still out, it hurts our chances of taking down West Virginia. It will also affect the Cleveland State game if this is an extended suspension. Aside from that, I think the Zips can still handle their upcoming schedule.

Captain Kangaroo
Even when Abreu comes back, there is uncertainty when he will be healthy enough to play. He has an injury known as iliotibial band syndrome, with symptoms including inflammation and pain in tendons on the outside of the knee. It is a nagging injury that often takes weeks to heal. Should the Zips wait to initiate the suspension when he's healthy? Bum deal. Makes the bus trip to WVa less-anticipated.
Dave in Green
Even if the odds of a win are reduced, it doesn't reduce my anticipation of the bus trip to WV. As Quickzips noted, this will be a chance to see how the team responds to adversity. GoZips has already told us Q should be the 6th man because he is versatile enough to run the point among other things. We'll see how good he is against Detroit and WV. Maybe something really special happens here.

ZachTheZip
If Q wants to play in the NBA, he needs to show that he can run the point. Here's his chance to turn some heads.
Derrt
Q had 9 assists last game as a partial PG. He is a passer anyway, very unselfish player. The zips will do fine today

The Hip Zip
Q had 9 assists last game as a partial PG. He is a passer anyway, very unselfish player. The zips will do fine today I agree, but with some caution and guarded optimism. The good news is that we are deep and very fortunate to have the ability to slip Q into the 1 position. I would love to see Walsh handle the duties but it's just not to be yet. I love our bench and that can be our saving grace. Also, the Beacon Journal seemed to not know that Detroit's very, very good forward Nick Minerath went down at the BG tourney with a knee and he's done for the year. Also, as I am sure that many of you know, Their center Eli Holman is suspended. He was the preseason pick for the Horizon's player of the year. Soph Bruinsma did a great job in Minnerath's place up in BG but the fact remains that Detroit's bench is very, very short on quality and bodies. That's our edge, even without Rico tonight. If I were KD, I'd run, run and run some more. Detroit has not been defending well and this will get into their bench. Playing slow in the half court would probably allow the Titans to stay close. With Minnerath and Holman, Detroit would have had a great team this year, without the two studs and on the road they should be defeated by 10+ pts
Dave in Green
Q had 9 assists last game as a partial PG. He is a passer anyway, very unselfish player. The zips will do fine today I had totally overlooked Q's 9 assists against Duquesne. That's really impressive. It looks as if his shooting may have suffered in that game due to being more focused on dishing. One of the toughest things about playing PG is picking when to dish and when to shoot. Q has the ability to go to the basket so well that he has the potential to really mess with his defender by first doing a lot of passing and then unexpectedly taking it into the paint. The team really needs him to come through as the primary PG, and I'll bet he's up to the responsibility, though it may take some time for everyone to get in synch. But having a 6-6 PG alongside another tall SG could cause a lot of matchup problems for other teams. The Zips are fortunate to have a multi-talented player like Q on the roster. skip-zip
I'm looking forward to having Quincy at the point for extended time. I think that could produce some good things for us. My only concern with having Abreu out is our backcourt depth.
GoZips
What Quincey has to do in order to stay on the court is shut down Ray McCallum. This is the key. We can not afford to have McCallum go ballistic on us. Quincey gave himself the task of becoming the Defensive Player of the Year. This is his first real opportunity to show his stuff. Forget how many points Q gets; if he can dish 8 or 9 assists and hold McCallum to under ten he will be the Zips player of the game in my book. McCallum was completely frustrated by Q and Deji all night long. Not exactly the greatest game all around for Q, but he certainly was up to the task of harassing young Mr. McCallum. Do we also hope that Zeke gets suspended so that Josh gets more PT?
