Did we stop scheduling YSU because Faust seemed to lose to them so often? Someone explain this.

League Rule: MAC schools are not permitted to play away games at 1-AA stadiums.

YSU will not play the Zips unless it is a home-home.

The Zips have offered to host YSU, and YSU has declined.

End of story.

Then maybe THAT's something Tressel could help out with....encouraging his old school to make a short trip west. It would be good for both sides, wouldn't it?

No, YSU can make more money playing Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan and if Akron loses, its just another "laughing stock" moment.

If this was such a rule, please explain to myself and ALL YSU fans why Ball State is playing an AWAY game at Illinois State (same conference as YSU) in the next two seasons???

Because Ball state asked for an exception because they couldn't find FCS schools willing to play them.

A couple on here have alluded to how Campbell is not going to put butts in the seats. Guess what: very few of the names mentioned are going to flood the seats on day 1. Tressel obviously would have. A name like Zook, Bowden, Stoops would probably get a few more butts in seats for game 1. But, in reality, EXCITING FOOTBALL with SOME wins will get butts in seats...continuous WINNING football will KEEP butts in seats.

My guess is, even if the name appeals to many ZNO posters (like a Winters), it is not going to be a name that draws people in by the busload until excitement and winning begins.

Agreed...no coach other than JT will put butts in seats. Any other coach will have to do it the old fashioned way...winning.

How will anybody know whether our football team is exciting if they aren't already in the seats watching the game? They already took the chance on seeing a team they didn't know well the past few years because of the stadium, and they got burned by a terrible product on the field. They won't take that chance again.

I find something humorous.

A few of you on here want to hire a D-II coach with a mediocre record.

But, you scoff at the idea of hiring a current coordinator with previous D-1A head coaching experience, who finished 1st in the MAC East in 2 of the 4 years that he was Miami's head guy?

If by chance, some of you are the same people making both statements, shame on you.

Paul Winters is 33-13 in the past 4 seasons, 19-5 in his last two, and currently competing for the national championship. If that's mediocre, I'll take mediocre. Compare that to Shane Montgomery's recent coaching records and you'll see the absurdity of the statement.

I'm not supporting Shane Montgomery as our next coach. Just pointing out that he has two divisional titles at a D1-A school as a head coach.

But, I also won't take your suggestion here and judge Winters tenure at Wayne by conveniently selecting the best few years, while ignoring the rest. I could probably make a case for just about any coach by utilizing that formula.

I offered my two cents. I really could have ripped on you guys about the whole Tressel-to-Akron thing, but I chose not to. I can assure you YSU will not only be a playoff team and make a run for a title next year, but Montgomery will be a hot commodity in coaching circles.

And I would just love to see how you guys would do up in the FargoDome against North Dakota State. We beat them in week 10 when they were 9-0 and #1 in the country. Of course we blew it a week later by losing to 1-9 Missouri State. Had we won that game, we would have been playing at noon on ESPNU vs. James Madison.

Hope we can meet again on the playing field one day, but until then, we will have to duke it out in recruiting.

Best of luck in your coaching search. To be honest with you guys, there is no reason you should not be able to field a winner in the MAC with those facilities you have. In my eyes good coaches help, but great recruiters can do wonders. I think that is the way to go for you guys.

I graduated from Miami so I know a little about Shane Montgomery. I believe he is a very good OC. Did not have any success at Akron...but something never smelled right here with him. He never had a Bio listed on GoZips. Not sure he saw eye to eye with JD or what was up. But I know for sure he will NOT be a hot commodity for HC. He failed miserably at Miami when most felt the team had the best talent in the MAC. He ran a very loose ship...similar to JD. Some guys are good coaches that are not meant to be HC. Montgomery and Ianello fall into that category. If he is a sought after coach...it will be for OC at a bigger school/program. Or...if you lose your coach you can promote him and see for yourself.

We should get Wolford from YSU! lol jk

at this point i want to just for the lolz at eguins

We can hire him so he leaves YSU, then fire him the next day to leave them without a coach. Just to piss of those losers. Say what you want about Akron but at least we don't pretend to be some football powerhouse like the penguins do.

So when you buy a car, all you look at is the price then?? Look, when PW took over the WSU program, they were at a historical low point in terms of winning percentage, having a losing record for almost a decade. He was rebuilding the program which is why his overall record is not that good. Any coach here would have the same job ahead of him. So, if anything, what he has done at WSU should be encouraging as ANY coach who is here next year will have a similar low winning percentage the first few years.

A record of 33-13 is not a poor record. It is a really good record.

When you factor in where Wayne State was at when coach Winters took over

the program it is a remarkable record. This is a major reason why he needs

to be considered for the open Akron job.

Can Akron fans take a slow rebuilding process without taking Winters to task?

Agreed

That is all I wanted RI to do. Last year, he had a pass. This year, my bar was 4 games. I would rather take 6 years to build a consistent MAC Champion than take 3 years for a flash in the pan.

BTW, by my count PW has a 47-41 overall record at WSU (8 years). 33-13 only covers the last 4 years. Still, not too shabby!

Least one buckeyeplanet.com poster seems to think Wolford interviewed with Meyer in Columbus Monday. However people inside the athletic department state otherwise as he was in Youngstown having one-on-one meetings with each player on the roster. He was exiting town today to get complete this 2012 recruiting class.

But I still think Shane Montgomery is going to be a hot commodity. MAYBE not as a head coach, but definitely as an offensive coordinator. His gameplan at Michigan State was a sight to see as we just chewed up clock and got first down after first down. We only scored 6 points, but a missed XP and missed FG cost us a few additional points. Hell we had more offense vs. MSU than OSU.

I honestly forgot he coached for you guys before coming to YSU. Bricillo has turned out solid for us. Did you guys like him?

For a real appreciation of Paul Winters has done at Wayne State you really need to see the campus and the stadium(Location) they play in. I drove by the campus last year and they were outside practicing on a fiedl by the stadium -- there are high schools with nicer facilities. I don't know how you could get a person to go to that school. If you remember Akron circa 1986 -- it was a palace compared to Wayne State.

And he managed to get Harlon Hill winner and current NFL (Saints practice squad) RB Joique Bell to go there.

Dwight Smith was from Detroit IIRC. You would think Paul would have established ties with Detroit schools by now.
