I hate to be too melodramatic, but this season, which started with so much hope and promise, is quickly spiraling out of control.

I was afraid of something like this happening when we brought in guys like Harney and Tree. Lot's of talent, but can't stay on the floor because of off the court issues. Such is the risk you take with non-qualifiers. It's still early in their collegiate career, but these two are going to have to wake up and see exactly how significant an opportunity they have here. If they don't I doubt either of them will last all 4 years.

Big loss. The team has to pull together today.

I believe they will. Believe it or not these are still young men/kids and still learning. Hopefully they will LEARN EARLY from these mistakes and GROW from them.

If this doesn't give the team a sense of urgency and the need to mature quickly, I don't know what will. The time to produce is Now AND Today...

As depressing as it is to lose the team's leading scorer for one of the toughest games of the year, hopefully Harney will learn quickly from this hopefully minor violation of team rules. This has to be really painful to him not to be able to play in front of his family and friends in Cleveland and know that he's responsible.

More importantly, it should be crystal clear to all of the players by now that what each of them does as an individual can have a dramatic effect on team performance. Maybe it's time for the players to have a meeting and take a vow to dedicate themselves to doing what's best for the team. Maybe someone will finally step up as team leader.

It's still early in the season and still early in the college careers of the younger players. They have to dedicate themselves to learn life lessons as quickly as they are trying to learn the lessons of playing college basketball at a high level.

KD2.0 needs an attention getter. I would not let the players go home on Christmas break and I would let them all know it is because of off the court problems. One guy screws up, they all get punished.

Then, I would have 9PM practices every day between the A&T game and the VCU game...including Christmas Eve. I'd make their lives miserable for the first four days and treat them like they are in boot camp...their bodies will have time to recover before the VCU game.

There would meetings after each practice that would last until midnight. In no way would I allow them to have the energy to go out after the practices.

There would also be 8 AM meetings, excluding Christmas Day, just to make sure nobody thinks they can go out after a practice.

The next time a guy falls out of line, that player will have to be removed from the team and never to be seen again....as long as he is a walk on or a player who could be easily replaced. It's a good way to send a message without hurting the chances of winning. Sort of like when NFL teams cut a back-up player after a team has played poorly for a couple of weeks in a row. It's more of a message sender than anything.

Eight days is a long time to be miserable.

This too shall pass.

Will a clergy member be involved? Will anything need to be notarized?

I say they all prick their fingers and make a Blood Pact.

I disagree. Very poor hygiene.

There is no such thing as KD2.0 Anybody who takes the time to follow the team or speak with KD will understand his philosophy. He did NOT realize his plan was not working. Only a FOOL would make such a claim. Anybody who listened to him would know to expect hiccups this season with these new guys. he has been saying over and over. This team will take time to gel and grow...exactly what those who follow the team closely have been saying from the beginning.

Thanks for your comments on this recent suspension.

Absolutely. The football team used to have 8 PM Friday spring practices in order to keep players from going out so they could have 8AM practice on Saturday. Players don't get into trouble at noon, they get into trouble at midnight. They can sleep all day and recover if they want, but I would make it impossble for them to go out at night. Keeping players out of trouble by making their lives miserable is good for preparation. This team needs to get their act together and be prepared for MAC play in January. Christmas season is a great time to get them ready as a gift to the fans for this horrible start.

In addition, KD2.0 could scare them. Google "bull durham scare them" and watch the video. It leaves the part out where Crash tells the manager to yell at them because they are kids, but it gets the point across.

Remember, it isn't open to walk-ons...an easily replaceable scholarship player could get the boot as well. Pick any guy that isn't in the top eight of minutes played. Next screw up gets a one-way ticket out of town.

The Shining might be more scarey.

Basketball has practiced on Christmas Eve the last several years. Maybe they got Hanukkah off?
