Captain Kangaroo Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 I wonder if there are records kept for Division 1 programs being entirely head coach free? 28 days has to be nearing a record. What the hell is going on? Quote
afootball Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 hearing there will be an announcement tomorrow. Go Zips! Quote
g-mann17 Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 CK, I think our 28 day coachless period isn't even close to the record. I believe that the record for being coachless is held by the Akron Zips at 741 days. Quote

We'll see if what I am hearing is correct in a little bit. Quote
CoachGerry Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 28 days... when will the bleeding end? Quote
jdurbinakron Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 28 days... when will the bleeding end? I'm thinking with the basketball game tonight, they will want to have it announced by 4pm if it is going to be announced today. Quote

K92 Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 The longer this goes, the more desperate. A coach must be named in short order or things might spiral right down the shitter. The whole idea of getting "the right guy" this time certainly looks like a long shot. Someone needs to be named that can bring some instant stability and build a framework of some kind of normalcy to the program. Although he wouldn't be at the top of my list under normal circumstances, I think Mark Mangino needs to be contacted to see if he has any desire to come back to coaching. That is one guy I can think of that may be up for the challenge just to get back into the game and a guy who no other schools probably want. Before you berate Mark and point out all the reasons why not, think again about the dire straits we are in. I know it's going out on a limb, but wow...are we in trouble. Quote

I've read somewhere (I think it was a CNNSI article, but don't hold me to that) that an interview of Mangino indicated he did. He took Kansas to the Orange Bowl. That's a pretty good hire, especially if he's calmed down a bit. Quote
Buckzip Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 Many times coaches are fired right after their season near the end of November and a replacement isn't named until after bowl season because coaches are still coaching. 28 days is not as rare as it sounds here. Quote

That might be true if we were talking about a HC from one of the teams making a move up. I just don't see that happening in our circumstances. Quote
Buckzip Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 What if it was an asst coach from one of those teams? Not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying that 28 days isn't that long. Quote
Hilltopper Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 What would prevent an assistant from getting hired now? Quote

Blue & Gold Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 From posts on various threads, it sounds as if Loefler is a no go? But I can't find any post actually ruling him out. Are we jumping the gun in dimissing Loefler, or is there a post/thread I've overlooked? Quote
Zip Watcher Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 For recent historical reference -- JD - Fired November 28th. Iannello - Hired December 10th. Perhaps a little more patience and time during that change would have yielded a better result? Quote

Are we jumping the gun in dimissing Loefler, or is there a post/thread I've overlooked? Yes, people are jumping the gun. It is all based off of one tweet that said "he is mulling it over along with possibly pursuing NFL coaching opportunities". Which sounded to me like a good ploy to say "eh, better come at me with more if you want me". Quote
ZipRoo Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 I don't care how long it takes, as long as Wish-ter-cill lands one of three men: Tress, Bowden or Mason. Quote
