So auburn would of just been given the national title would of ran through Florida state no contest. And also Nebraska shared a title with michgian so that's 3 for them. And the sec was dominate you proved my point at no time Did they have back to back. My whole point was that the SEC of the 90's is not the SEC od today.

Who cares? Dude went undefeated at a major college football program in a major college football conference. I don't care if it was in the 1930's he coached against top talent and won...why do we care about the era?

We are the doormat of D-1A football right now and just hired a proven winner of a head coach from the best conference in the country...and you guys are arguing like a bunch of school girls about whether the conference was really the best at the time or just one of the best? Seriously?! Do you realize how lucky we are to have him? He was undefeated one season!...in the SEC! Who was the next best candidate? This really could have turned out to be a disaster!

And whoever is arguing about TW, again, who cares?! It was a great hire! I don't care who gets credit for it.

Okay okay I thought we were having a friendly conversation but I'm right. But I do think the team has a chance to win 7 games this year. The team will play harder and talent will rise from unexpected places. Akron football will be topic of conversation again around the water cooler. Broderick Alexander primed for a big year. The number one thing is getting JUCO talent for the offensive line. The wrs are here in place to be great.

Remember when people wanted Luke Fickell. Both scenarios were pretty close, since both coaches came in during a programs turmoil and inherited teams from the previous regime. Bowden went undefeated, and Fickell did nothing.

Agree 100%. If the new staff can get Price to hold on to the ball, we'll have three really good WR's.

Agreed.

Hugo, sorry if seemed like I was attacking you, I wasn't. I am just excited about the leadership change of your football program. Bowden is a proven winner as a head coach at many different levels of competition. This is something to be excited about and something to rejoice not something where we begin looking for reasons to question the hire. Let's get behind him and leave the doubt and old Akron thinking behind. Let's move forward with positive thought.

The guy hasn't even coached a down at UA or met the players. I am interested in how he asseses what we have and what he puts in place to give us our best chance to win. I want to see if he puts a system in place that suits the talent. If he does this I will be extremely happy. Ianello tried to force a style on our players who weren't suited for that style leading us to a 2-22 record. I doubt Bowden will make that mistake.

What style do you think best suits our players? To me, the spread on O. What about the D?

Hey capt hope to see you and your bad ass son at a couple of ball games this year think you could save me a seat.

The defense should be the strength the 4-3 is fine for the defense they just need a good coordinator with a different philosophy who doesn't spill everything to the secondary who is afraid to tackle. Also they need to play the players who make plays in practice and actually understand the defense and not people who they promise time. Then the d will be better. Can you believe that two players who actually missed most of camp due to injury started most of the season. Also when favorites aren't played this team will be fine.

RE: Give credit where credit is due. TW is to be blamed for Iannello because it happened under his directorship. Conversely, TW gets the credit for Bowden, as it also happened on his watch. We must remain logically consistent.

Dude, Ianello "happened" under TW's watch because TW was the ONLY one who wanted the guy. Wake up. "Credit" for Bowden? Uh, no no no...not until we hear that Bowden was on UA's short list and that TW personally contacted and persuaded him to come to Akron. In total reality, TW may have had ZERO to do with this hiring. Your "logic" is nonsense.

Just because men's soccer happened to have great players and a coach in place, yet the National Championship occurred under "TW's watch," are you giving HIM the "credit" for it? Surely you're a Can't State student.

No coach gets hired or fired without an AD playing an integral role. Does not happen! Period! Also inextricably involved is the approval of the Board of Directors. Both the AD and BOD are culpable for Iannello. Both are to be praised for Bowden. There is an element of chance in every occurrence. Maybe TW got lucky. So what! All that counts is the scoreboard.

Yes. It is because of Men's Soccer 2010 Championship that I am willing to defend TW. Was he primarily responsible for it? Certainly not! But TW played his part in it. Top executives take both the criticism and the accolades.

What is your suggested response here, what is your rationale? "Nice job, Tom, but you're still fired because of that other thing." Are we allowing for Wistrill to redeem himself?

If you EVER associate me with Kan't State again, I will make it my personal business to find out who you are. There is a difference between argument and insult :mad_flame: .

I will agree that TW had as much input in this hire as did the Board of Directors. Strangely in this case, their contribution was matched by the role played by the folks at the Parking Office.
