Dr Z
Terrell Buckley will have a position at Akron.Florida St connection. Isn't T-Buck the inventor of the Lambeau Leap? Wonder what he will invent here? Summa Skip? I hope Coach B can use his Florida connection for players too. Will his Akron coaching debut is as good as his NFL debut? ZachTheZip
Footballscoop.com: Akron: We have been told that Chuck Amato has accepted the defensive coordinator position. We hear that Todd Stroud will be joining the staff as defensive line coach (from Colorado State...but has worked with Amato before) and we hear that Terrell Buckley will coach the corners. Dr Z
I'm impressed. Mr Amato, your next phone call should be Brian Wagner (I'm confident Coach B has told him this already though.) Good luck and welcome.
Blue & Gold
Great hire! He's another rock star coach! We've now got a few coaches on staff (Coach Bowden, Chuck Amato & Terrell Buckley) that the area high school coaches will be thrilled to become acquainted with. They'll be heading home after a day at school, telling their wives, "Hey honey, guess who I got to meet today...!" (Of course thier wives won't have a clue who they're talking about. ) Welcome aboard, Mr. Amato!

Between Coach Bowden and Coach Amato I've got to believe they will get all the Florida players they need to round out the local talent they steal from Urbie
ZipRoo
Amazing that the hometown newspaper won't have the "scoop" on Amato's hiring until...oh, at least 2 or 3 days after it was reported here on ZNO. If the ABJ is still wondering why people don't interact with their many blogs (some of which post new items every few MONTHS), or come to Ohio.com for any sort of "breaking" news, this is their first clue: Other sources have the news DAYS before you get around to posting it. Is it any wonder the PD routinely gets 100 comments per sports column or story, and the BJ struggles for 100 "reads" per story? Come on, put a little more effort into it, guys. Well have any hiring been officially reported by the university? Its a bit different for the Plain Dealer or Beacon Journal to report something, as opposed to some random football rumor website or internet forum. If they wrote articles about every rumor Ohio.com would be a complete mess and would lose credibility. They asked Coach Bowden several times about the hiring process. He said that it's up to the university on how they would go about announcing the positions. Chances are they are going to wait until the whole staff is in place and have an official announcement. Which then will be safe for the Beacon to post.
NewZipsFan
Agreed. Newspapers have to have confirmation from a reliable source before they will (or at least should) print something. Footballscoop.com takes rumors, tips, etc from anyone on an anonymous basis. I believe that each coach must go through an NCAA approval process before they can be officially hired and, then of course, announced by the University. He was here the same time T-Bow was with the Zips in 86. Good memory! Yes, he is the same guy. I though it strange that Terry specifically mentioned him as being present during the introductory press conference. I believe Mike came from Middle Tennessee prior to his 1st stint at Akron. This is shaping up to be a staff chock full of guys who are certainly not in it primarily for the money.

GP1
Can someone clear up exactly who is on the staff? I read a lot on this board, but after a few days, I'm still unsure as to what is true and what is rumor.
NewZipsFan
Can someone clear up exactly who is on the staff? I read a lot on this board, but after a few days, I'm still unsure as to what is true and what is rumor. It's all still "rumor" until the University can release the information. The NCAA has been closed for the holiday, and I believe all coaches have to be "checked" before the University can hire them and then - announce them.. Everything I've read here - with the exception of one post - sounds just about right to me..

I read a lot on this board, but after a few days, I'm still unsure as to what is true and what is rumor. This is all according to the rumor websites and will continue to be just a rumor until the university puts out a press release later this week. There are still some spots that haven't been mentioned, like the TE/FB coach or special teams coach. Head Coach - Terry Bowden (North Alabama Head Coach) Director of Football Operations - Ben Murphy (North Alabama Director of Football Operations) Offense: Offensive Coordinator / OL Coach - Alan Arrington (North Alabama Offensive Coordinator / OL Coach) QB Coach - A.J. Milwee (East Mississippi CC QB Coach) WR Coach - Jeff Bowden (North Alabama WR Coach) Defense: Defensive Coordinator / Associate Head Coach - Chuck Amato (Unemployed while recovering from cancer) DL Coach - Todd Stroud (Colorado State DL coach) LB Coach - John Pont (Miami Ohio Grad Assistant) Safeties Coach - Mike Woodford (New Mexico DB Coach) CB Coach - Terrell Buckley (Florida State Assistant S&C Coach)

johnnyzip84
Heard that we're getting some coaches from Wayne State. Their DC and their RB coach, specifically. IF TRUE, these are the guys: John Hauser Trent Boykin Hauser has MAC ties (NIU) and Boykin was a GA here at Akron after starring at YSU as a player. Both would help in recruiting the MAC footprint and specifically Detroit. If this happens, I think this would this mean that some of the other rumored candidates are not going to be here. It would be a somewhat bizarre turn of events for sure.
