K92
French and Dunn touched on this briefly at the press conference...still no decision on how the conference will be split with UMass coming aboard. It is unbelievable how this decision is being dragged out. The SEC made a quick and easy decision where A&M and Missouri were going AND the 2012 schedule is out. It doesn't have to be difficult. True. They're dividing the conference, not splitting the atom.
g-mann17
The SEC threw something together. This isn't even how the conference will look in the future. It's just for this year. Why? Because they didn't have the time to really work on it. Go read the articles on it. There will be a lot of changes for next year. 14 teams is not an easy schedule to set and divisions aren't easy. We all assume it will be BGSU moving back to the West but who knows what they are thinking. Maybe they try and balance out the conference. K92
G-mann, If the conference locked the two of us in a room and told us we couldn't come out until we had divisions set and schedule made, I am confident we wouldn't miss the basketball game tonight. johnnyzip84
Wasn't there some talk, when UMass was 1st admitted for football, that they and Temple would NOT be thrown into the same division? I could see that complicating things (if true).
zippy5
I was under the impression that UMass wouldn't be in the MAC this year and just playing a provisional D-1 schedule with a few 1-AA teams.

You are partially correct (see last sentence). BTW, I'm sure new UMass HC Charley Molnar is familiar to many. He was the offensive coordinator for that place to the East over a number of years. K92
I thought UMass was competing in the conference as a regular member in 2012 with special restrictions since they were scheduling multiple FCS non-conference opponents. Restrictions being bowl and MACC ineligibility. Are you saying they are not playing a full MAC schedule in 2012?

I didn't say it couldn't be done quickly. But you are assuming only 2 people have say. You have 14 AD's and presidents that have a say. TW said they already submitted the UA proposal for the conference alignment. The whole thing will probably be announced after Bowl season. MDZip
At least we'll finally get rid of the idiotic scheduling quirk where we don't play every East team in a year.
johnnyzip84
MAC Web Site story on realignment MAC East: Akron; Buffalo; Can't State; UMass; Miami; Ohio and Temple. johnnyzip84
Temple's opponents have also been announced. I wonder if all conference teams will have them announced soon? I agree with xu9697. I'd rather play UMass than BG right now.

johnnyzip84
ABJ article UA’s home games will be Buffalo, Miami, UMass and Northern Illinois. The road games are Can't State, Temple, Ohio and Toledo. NIU and Toledo......no favors there!
MDZip
ABJ article Great - the two toughest West opponents. I could see that one coming after Can't and Temple both drew EMU. Well, we'll see what next year brings.
Dr Z
NIU and Toledo......no favors there!I like it. I want to play the best of the Mac. I want to see what coach Bowden does against the better teams, not the EMU's and Ken+s.
xu9697
How come? A few reasons= 1. Right off the bat, I think UMASS, Can't and Buffalo are winnable games. 2. We keep 3 Ohio teams still but also continue to add to the Eastern presence. I would rather be associated with talent in the East vs. in Michigan...I think it can open up more recruting opportunities. 3. Personally, I just like the chance in seeing some of those teams more often vs. the directional Michigan schools and Northern Illinois. Looking at the entire schedule, a couple of things come to mind: Home Central Florida Morgan State Buffalo Miami UMass Northern Illinois Away Florida International Tennessee Can't State Temple Ohio Toledo 1) We should win at least 2-3 home games. 2) The road is TOUGH. Might need to bring home that Wagon Wheel for more than one reason.
