bUAkronG
pardon my french, but holy shit. This gets me excited. TB says "I will spend much of my time implementing the offense, so getting the right guy on defense was essential."

NewZipsFan
Welcome Call Brian Wagner Chuck. I'd bet money that's been done! Check out the "other" Coach Bowden spreading the news Coach Bobby Bowden

xu9697
Amato would have been a solid hire as our HEAD coach. The fact that he gets this position here is pretty darn amazing. Good things happening, for sure.
Buckzip
Not a good HC but a solid football coach. Should help immensely with recruiting. Great hire.
scottditzen
If you don't know, Coach Amato is from Easton PA. Separted by the narrow Delaware River, the Easton PA/Philipsburg NJ rivalry is one of the greatest in America, it goes for over a century! GP1
Instant credibility. Less than a month ago, we couldn't get anyone to look at us for the head coach position. Today, we have a former BCS head coach as a coordinator. Amazing how quickly things have turned. Welcome Coach Amato. Well done TB.
MDZip
So facilities do matter but not the way we thought. Quote from Coach Amato "When Terry called me and asked if I would consider coming to Akron to be a part of his new staff, I told him that I really wanted to come and visit the campus before making a decision," Amato said. "After seeing that the University's facilities are second to none, and hearing first hand the type of commitment the entire administration has to building a winning football program, the decision was an easy one." So facilities don't directly bring in recruits, but they help bring some good coaches and then THEY get the good recruits. Too bad we didn't know this a few years ago. This is a really interesting staff being put together. Hope Coach A doesn't hold it against us that we might have been part of the reason he got fired at NC State. Too bad we didn't know this a few years ago. Maybe it's neither. Maybe through some odd cosmic twist of fate, the ball has finally bounced our direction after years of it always bouncing up and breaking our nose. Class of 82
Great hire. Seems that this truly is an "all-in" type of effort both by TB and the administration.
PB1719
I think fans of other MAC teams are going to be getting nervous very soon, if they weren't already.

liljc
I don't know about the rest of you, but I am more shocked by this hire than I was by Bowden's hiring. to the administration for actually doing what they said they were going to do! RootforRoo44
Was at Epcot all day...what a pleasant surprise to get back and see this great news. What an AMAZING hire. Who better to keep Wagner in Akron than a guy who knows linebackers as well as anyone?

akzipper
At first I was excited about this hire, but then I remembered when Walt Harris was brought in as an assistant. Former HC of both Pitt and Stanford. I sure hope this turns out better...but who knows

zipsfan33
I'm excited about the hire, I just worry that he is 65 and hasn't coached for 2 years because of illness. Could that 2 years be enough to take some of the game away from him? I hope not, but at his age and being sick it really sticks in the back of my head! When Frenchy was reporting the hire on WNIR this morning, he mentioned that Coach Amato is still in great shape (and I'm sure Steve's aware of his bout with cancer). I think that's a good sign. I think that's a good sign. He is in fantastic shape --- and was not out of coaching because of the throat cancer... When FSU booted Bobby out, the first person Jimbo got rid of was Coach Amato. Pretty much got rid of everyone loyal to Coach Bowden.
