ZachTheZip
6'2" 180lb QB Steven Franco from Tyrone Area high school has committed to the Zips. Scout profile Rivals profile ESPN profile
ZachTheZip
Scout recently bumped him up to three stars, and rated him the #66 best QB in the class of 2012. It's not often that Akron gets a player ranked above #75 for a position (unless it's a specialist position like kicker or center). Rivals has him as a soft verbal, but I hope that coach Bowden can keep him. I'm very excited about this prospect. He may be our best recruit in several years. Here's an article from pennlive.com And here's a cutup of one of his games. We need a real gunslinger in coach Bowden's offense.

If he sticks his recent upgrading takes the Zips out of the Scout.com MAC recruiting basement, now ahead of OU!

His first highlight in the cutup is an interception. 2. He plays under center a lot= hard to find in HS football lately, and you can see why Ianallo wanted him. He also throws off his back foot in one play, throws a low one to the RB and throws some high ones with some great catches by his WRs! He does some nice things on there as well, but it isn't the best cutup in the world. I find it more funny than accurate....if those other schools were looking at him, I'm sure he is going to be fine. I graduated a few years ahead of Steve, and went to just about every single game this season, and he's improved by leaps and bounds compared to that highlight tape, including Tyrone's right at a AA state Championship this season. Akron's getting an amazing kid in Franco; great student and a class act. Expect big things from him.

Captain Kangaroo
His name surfaces every so often in the "What ever happened to him..." category. Grad Assistant at 13-0 IUP. "Franco is joined on head coach Paul Tortorella’s IUP coaching staff by his younger brother Stevie, a graduate assistant coach who is working with the defense and handling assignments like putting together the scout team playbook for the IUP players. “He played with 70 percent of the current players, so he knows how to talk to these guys and he’s a nice go-between guy between the players and coaches,” Johnny Franco said of Stevie, a former all-state quarterback at Tyrone who started for three years as a safety at IUP after transferring there from the University of Akron. “He’s helped us a lot since he’s been in the system for so long.”
