zipinnc
QUOTE(BirdZip @ Jan 23 2012, 12:40 PM) Anybody seen the Honey Badger videos on YouTube? Someone needs to put together a Harney Badger video... You wanna play defense and get all up in his face? Harney Badger don't care. He'll just blow right by you and kiss it off the glass. You only want to play him for 14 minutes? Harney Badger don't give a crap! He'll drop 21 on your @$$ before you can blink. Look at him. He doesn't even look like he's trying. But there's a Golden Flash trying to locate his jock strap while Harney Badger flies by with a huge grin on his face. Harney Badger's a beast! With all the credit going to BirdZip, I thought this "Nick-name" deserved it's own life. What's that, you don't like it, well "Harney Badger don't care, "Harney Badger" don't give a $hit. "Harney Badger" just takes what he wants from the flushes. He's NASSTY!!!! Oh, what's that, a Ball St Cardinal? "Harney Badger" don't care, he'll do all the work and drop 30 oon you b1@thces. If the AK-Rowdies don't get ALL over this, they don't give a $hit. This is GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Captain Kangaroo
Why do people feel compelled to give Akron players or coaches nicknames?
Dr Z
Why do people feel compelled to give Akron players or coaches nicknames?I blame this a$$ clown. Two Monday's ago, KD called him the "microwave." This Monday, his quote was "Nick reminds me a lot of LeBron." That's pretty high praise. johnnyzip84
I personally like sports nicknames, but only when they’re fitting. Certainly they’ve been around far longer than Chris Berman. All major team sports have had their share over the years, from those given to individuals and those given to teams or portions of teams. • Fearsome Foursome • Steel Curtain • “Mean” Joe Greene • Maurice “the Rocket” Richard • Wilt “the Stilt” • The Gas House Gang • Big Poison and Little Poison (Paul and Lloyd Waner) • Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch • “The Galloping Ghost” aka “Red” Grange • Billy “White Shoes” Johnson • “Shoeless” Joe Jackson • Etc, etc, etc IMO Dr Z is absolutely right however. Has there ever been a bigger ass-clown covering sports nationally? I see NO VALUE in anything that guy does or says. Specifically with regards to his nicknames, they are almost always a lame reach. His real claim to fame is that he just happened to be in the right spot at the right time when ESPN was just about to take off.

tpsjugglerdude
The Harney Badger didn't feel like making an impact tonight, so the Harney Badger didn't.
MDZip
6 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal in 18 minutes still pretty productive. 11-19 shooting in his lat two games also pretty productive.
The Hip Zip
6 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal in 18 minutes still pretty productive. 11-19 shooting in his lat two games also pretty productive. I agree with that to a point but he had a pretty bad game otherwise. He got lost on defense a few times and tried to force his offensive game. He's young and nights like this will happen. I hope that he realizes that he still has a lot to work on and that he stays grounded. The great thing is that this team can get by when guys like Harney and Zeke have no offensive impact at all. Captain Kangaroo
@ JZ84 I like nicknames too. Good ones. Do we really need to call Terry Bowden "T-Bow"? What's that? How long is "Honey Badger" going to be topical/relevant? Another two weeks? It just seems like some people are itching to tag a quicky nickname on any new player or coach now-a-days. Nicknames are earned. Was "The Steel Curtain" named before they ever made a sack? Was "Mr. Clutch" Bryan Hiphser named before he ever missed a free throw? Dr Z may have correctly identified Boomer as the beginning of a period when nicknames were no longer earned. I do like "The Chisel" though

You're right. if we're not careful, pretty soon someone will come up with some bogus rule linking the number of minutes that Harney plays with the outcome of the game... Can't we just have a little fun, Dad? Pleeeeeease?
Captain Kangaroo
You're right. if we're not careful, pretty soon someone will come up with some bogus rule linking the number of minutes that Harney plays with the outcome of the game... Can't we just have a little fun, Dad? Pleeeeeease? I liked your original Harney Badger post. I love any clever post, because the board can sometimes be overrun with epic, go-no-where 1,000 word oratories, typically containing a bold summary like - "Sometimes players are good, and sometimes they are bad...all we can do is watch the games, trust the coaches and hope for the best in March." As I've said many times, once the board is no longer fun, I'm out. Everyone should be. I only question the rush to official nicknames that seems to be so prevalent anymore. "Sparty's gotta love what's goin' down in C-bus with The Vest and blah blah blah..." Bogus?
MDZip
Uh-oh it might stick. Just heard one of the announcers refer to him as the Harney Badger. Apparently the AK-Rowdies picked it up. One for BirdZip.
