Captain Kangaroo
I predicted it 3 years ago. Hope it is true, so I can chalk up yet another stupid thing UA did that I told them they'd reverse. It's tough being a visionary, but someone has to do it.
bobbyake
I hear there will be Thirsty Dog, Hoppin Frog & Ohio Brewing on tap! Fred wont keg his beers so it's unlikely we'll see Hoppin Frog. I'd be shocked if they offer craft beer.

Dr Z
I was pretty sure this would happen eventually, I think they just didn't want any "heat" when opening it up new. From now on, I'm just getting dropped off at Lot 9, and using the designated driver program. Is Keener giving the alcohol training class to employees? Source: here. • Wristbands will be required to purchase, and will be distributed at a separate identification stand. • IDs still will be checked at the concessions stands with every purchase, and a wristband must be shown. • A maximum of two beers will be sold per transaction. • Beer sales will conclude at the end of the third quarter. • Beer will be sold only at stands around the concourse. • The same employee will check identification, collect money and then serve the customer, in that order. • All employees who serve will have completed an alcohol training class. • An alcohol-free section of the stadium will be established. • Responsible drinking will continue to be promoted. • Designated driver programs will be established and promoted. • Additional staffing, including security and clean up, will be hired as necessary. RootforRoo44
They may have crummy Bud Light, but it won't be cheap. Can't serves beer for fairly cheap at their games...are we going to let them one-up us?
johnnyzip84
I also heard they will be offering something called "The Green Demon" at the Chick Fil-A concession stand. I thought they were only available with an official Lot 9 food voucher?
Zipgrad01
I hear there will be Thirsty Dog, Hoppin Frog & Ohio Brewing on tap! The university should talk to Thirsty Dog since it is a mile from the stadium and see if they could make a special "Bowden Brew" to be on tap at Akron games. Doesn't seem like a smart idea to have commercial beers named after active college coaches.
Zipgrad01
Doesn't seem like a smart idea to have commercial beers named after active college coaches. It doesn't have to have his name in it. I know the NCAA would not look kindly on that. I was meaning more as a Bowden based concept. Like "fear the dadgum roo brew". Something like that. tpsjugglerdude
Can't serves beer for fairly cheap at their games...are we going to let them one-up us? It is the same company that does Can't's. PS- Akron is no longer a Pepsi school as of June 1. Akron will be exclusively a Coke school.

ZZZips
That should make KD happy. Not unless we have become a Lipton Tea school.

These 3 things stood out most to me in the decision. Seems like a bit of a hassle just to get the beer, especially if they put this "Stand" in a really inconvenient place... I also wonder what they mean by "stands around the concourse"...
ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
OMG, in retrospect is there anything UA could have done worse going into the opening of the stadium? I am cheering the program on from afar now, but it's so frustrating that they are only now turning the ship into the correct tack. The problem is that regarding the Info, the bloom is now off of the rose, so to speak. The stadium is no longer "shiny and new". Damn, such missed opportunities to boost the program at the right moment when they had that ONE shot to do so. I remember attending opening day at Jacob's Field in 1994. It was shiny and new and beautiful right exactly when that team was becoming exciting after decades of sucking. The energy at that park was palpable and intense and remained so right up until the craptacular Dolan family bought the club and ruined it. If only UA could have done it right... Lee Adams
Biggest part of the story in the ABJ wasn't about cheap beer at the INFO. It was about how tuition is going up the max of 3.5%. And, most if not all other fees are being raised about the same neighborhood. Better sell 'cheap' beer or the students won't be able to buy it. To be fair, financial aid and scholarship monies are being raised in compensation with the tuition/fee raises.
Dr Z
I have had more people than I would have thought walk up to me (or email me) and say "I hear Akron is going to sell beer at the football games this year." So at the very least, the U is hitting some different demographics. Everyone seemed like it was a positive that spoke/wrote to me.

Why it makes such a difference to people whether or not they can drink beer inside the gate puzzles me. I have been trying to lure people to the games through the FANTASTIC food and beverage available at the tailgate and been largely unsuccessful. Now people are interested in coming because they can drink a Budweiser in their seat? Makes no sense to me, but if it draws people in, great.
