As always, there were some janky calls by the refs but they went both ways. Love ya, Zips!
zipdiehard
Without a doubt. We won the regular season of what is probably the toughest MAC east in years. We have to remember that everyone of note except the Serb will be back, with a great recruiting class added. It should be a war next year with us, OU, BG, Toledo, Eastern, etc... UAZips
Exactly. That was one hell of a game from start to finish. A great showcase of the league two best teams on prime time national television.

Dave in Green
I never realized the ride home from Cleveland was so long. It hurt that the Zips lost, but they played a good game. When you lose by 1 point, there are a hundred different plays you could point to that would have made the difference. Absolutely nothing at all for anyone to be embarassed about. This was a bounce away from being a Zips win.
72 Roo
The guys left it all out on the floor and I'm proud of them. We'll be back again. I also feel, though, that we cost ourselves the game with turnovers, many unforced, and repeated driving to the basket into the OU defense with nowhere to go. I didn't think OU beats us as much as we beat ourselves. Gotta give it up to Cooper. We had no one that could guard him.

What did Keith actually say? Bobcatattack is having a meltdown because they say he said they were positively losing him, and that he actually said "he was gone". I would be surprised if he made that kind of statement, but if he did he was way off base. The little snipets on the facebook page show him to be quite complimentary to OU. They of course are showing their usual high class in attacking him. It's no wonder the rest of the MAC hates their fans like they do. RowdyZip
Kd's actual words were that he expected Groce to get a job offer. He didn't say he would take it or that OU would need a new coach. This was the 1350 post game, didn't hear the presser.

Instead of enjoying their victory they are outraged while speculating on the intent of Keith's remark. I've heard of poor losers but poor winners?? They are about as classless as a group can be. Let'sGoZips94
It was hard to stomach this one on the way home, especially knowing we just lost to OU. But then it hit me. 1) What are we, like the 16th youngest team in the nation? This team is insanely young, but I believe they are an NCAA team. However, the NIT might do them better than being in the Big Dance. Possibly 1 and done in the tourney won't really do these guys any good. Now that we are in the NIT, I think we have a shot at winning multiple games, maybe even making it to The Garden. Plus, it will give these guys more experience. They also will now have a chip on their shoulder, and even more drive to win it all next year. 2) Great game. I think Akron was the better team, but Ohio was the luckier team. Dambrot says that sometimes it is better to be lucky than good. Ohio was the reason for that quote. They chucked up 3's left and right and they went in. A few of our shots didn't. Oh well. 3) I love being an Akron fan. Dambrot's quotes in the post game really picked my spirits up. By saying we won't be losing our coach, that is awesome. But what was even more amazing was his maturity about that last free throw. He said he didn't care if it was legal to review that or not, just as long as they got it right. Do you think Groce or any other MAC coach would've said that? Plus, our players are way classier than Ohio's players. What a bunch of thugs. If that's what it takes to win, I really don't want to win. I love how/who Dambrot recruits. I texted Tim Carroll to tell him to tell the team that they are a classy group of guys that are easy to root for and to tell them thanks for everything. 4) WE STILL HAVE THE NIT! Remember a few years ago when we beat FSU? And before that we beat Temple? We were all thrilled. Now I believe this team can achieve more than that. Let's take care of business! Go Zips! FromdaBurgh
According to a post on another MAC team message board, the poster made a comment that they watched the final play on their DVR and saw that an OU player had hit the rim while the ball was still up. What's done is done..BUT...a pic is worth a 1000 words!!!! You make up your own mind. While noone actually "touched" the ball...what does the rule book say about "basket interference"? Just asking! University of Akron's Zeke Marshall (right) and Demetrius Treadwell around the rim with Ohio University's Reggie Keely with 3 seconds remaining during the second half of the MAC championship game Saturday at Quicken Loans Arena. Ohio University won the game 64-63.

I've heard of poor losers but poor winners?? They are about as classless as a group can be. Guess I just don't see it as classless to be concerned about losing a coach who took a team to 2 NCAA births in his first 4 years... I'd be protective too. Personally, I'd be surprised if Groce actually left considering he has all of his guys coming back. Some might consider one coach speculating about another coach in the same league leaving as a "classless" tactic to influence recruits. I don't think thats what Dambrot was doing, but there are multiple ways it could be taken. Edited to not sound quite so confrontational. What is very interesting is this quote from an OU fan: Bogey5 Member Since: 2/18/2007 Post Count: 15 RE: Dambrot says Groce will leave after this year Posted: 3/11/2012 12:23:28 AM I Listened to the Akron post game show and the above poster is correct. He praised both the the 'Cats and coach Groce saying that he may be gone not that he's gone. Someone needs to get their facts straight. Not a thing wrong with what Dambrot said. Quit jumping to assumptions and be gracious in victory.

skip-zip
Wow...after blowing that picture up on my phone, it sure looks like his fingers are on the rim. That's definitely what I see too. In which case, a defender interfered with a free throw, and the free throw should count. So, it changes nothing. I just wish that the refs would have made THAT call right the first time, and not allowed a field goal to count, and then just change it to a made free throw. If any evidence surfaces that there was a tipped ball, I would really like to see that.
UAZip0510
Can anyone clarify what the proper ruling should have been? His fingers were clearly on the rim, but nobody touched the ball. Because of that: 1) Would the free throw had just counted regardless, giving the Zips the point they scored anyhow? 2) Would it had counted as a 2 point field goal because the ball had not yet gone in? It depends where the ball is at. If it's still in the cylinder, he intereferred with a free throw, and the free throw counts. However, if it's out of the cylinder, and the defender touched the rim and someone is trying to tip the ball back in, then it should count as a field goal. Looks to be right above the cylinder from that picture. It seemed like Zeke timed it perfectly for a tip in too had it popped out. Damn. tbozeglav
Just watched it again. The correct call was made. based on the picture posted on the previous page, there was a shot interference by Ohio. By rule, that means that 1) the free throw counts, and most importantly, 2) a technical called and would result in Akron going back to the line for 2 more shots. This isn't a "goaltending" issue, mind you (not directed at you specifically, brian); The issue is of interference with the rim, which was CLEARLY made with the picture posted. The picture makes it look like he is pulling on the rim. He barely makes contact with it, not enough to even move the basket.
