akzipper
That's a pretty good read. I'll be rooting for this kid. Agreed. Most importantly I hope that off the field he can succeed. I don't expect him to step on the field and dominate, but given our lack of talent it won't be hard to get some playing time. I just keep remembering that this is Akron, and we just don't get much luck go our way.
72 Roo
Call me crazy or a wide-eye optimist but I believe Bowden is set to make his own luck. I am rooting for this young man to make it in life first, in his academics and athletics second, although not very far from first
CincyZip
So does this guy have four years with our Zippers?
Dave in Green
All reports say that he did not play football at Butler Community College, so he should have all four years of college football eligibility remaining.
CincyZip
This is what us Bengal fans call a 'Low Risk' move. If he messes up you cut him, if he plays it straight you have a superstar in the making. I don't see much wrong with it.

GP1
Jamal Turner is eligible and in No. 55...playing LB. Given the injuries, he is certainly worth a shot.

Zipgrad01
This kid is a stud. We have never had a linebacker with this level of talent.....assuming he is on par with his pre surgery self.
zen
This could be considered an attempt at spin, or it could be just positing another potentiality to take into perspective; If a guy is circumstantially the victim of violent crime on more than one occasion, but was not himself the instigator or perpetrator such crimes, then doesn't his lack of violence provide a credit to his character? The thing is nobody really knows. I believe there are parts of the stories that nobody will ever know. I just hope if he was into some bad stuff, or involved with some bad people, he has moved on from that and makes the most out of what I consider a second chance to make something of himself on the football field

NewZipsFan
There are so many (too many) kids that come from backgrounds most of us could never even conceive of. Life is just so incredibly different for many young athletes. Which is why it is so hard, and unfair, to judge many of these situations. If the young man did not even get in any trouble - but was the victim of these incidents - we have to give him more than the benefit of the doubt. There are a lot of kids who grow up and are friends with other kids who do not have the same opportunities - whether athletically or academically - and unfortunately go down the wrong road. Guilt by association is just not fair (for kids and young adults). At some point in life, we all have to choose what is best for us - and that time is probably now for Jamel. He's a gifted athlete with a bright future - I for one am rooting for him to make the most out of his second chance at life.
