fknbuflobo
Time for a dose of soccer reality: Mental lapse for the team starting Friday at Creighton, the beginning of a 3 match losing streak. By the time we have our Fox TV match up against St John's , we will be at 1-3. And effectively OUT of championship contention. Such a waste to a very promising season! Should we be bitter at the Timbers for doing this right now?
Zip_ME87
I'm still getting on a plane at 5:50 am Friday heading to Omaha completely expecting to come home with 2 wins. We have THE BEST players. If any team can respond positively and be successful through this distraction, it's our Zips!
TheTank123
And effectively OUT of championship contention. Such a waste to a very promising season! Should we be bitter at the Timbers for doing this right now? No chance this happens. Too many players have too much on the line. 4 seniors, 4 HGP candidates and some GA candidates in the starting 11. No way they let this effect them. Lapse at Creighton? Possible. Losing the next two? No way. I've said this before and I'll say it again: I believe that stuff like this affects fans way more than it does players We are powerless so we let emotion take over. I see this playing out one of two ways: 1. Porter stays for the rest of the season and the team comes together to win a championship for the person they came to play for. It would be mindboggling to me if any of the guys on the team begrudged him his chance to move on to the next level, considering they are at Akron for the exact same reason. 2. Porter leaves now and they rally under Embick, who everyone seems to like and respect. As someone said previously, there are too many talented players with professional aspirations to let this destroy the season.

Should we be bitter at the Timbers for doing this right now? According to mlssoccer.com, Coach Porter will not leave Akron till after the season. I think we will still be a power house this year. bigzipguy
I forgot about the second game this weekend. I really meant : a loss to Creighton, a loss to ND, and a loss to Indiana. Therefore 2-3 , comming back for St John's.

I've spent enough time talking with our guys to know they're too professional to let this destroy their season. If all plays out as we expect today, they'll basically be playing for an MLS coach. skip-zip
I would bet Proenza launches a national search via a committee...and tells The Guy the Hired Ianello and then Botched Paul Winters to stay as far away as possible. Which will possibly turn out to be the greatest blessing in Zips Football history. I'd love to see a committee. But, I wonder if they will build something that extensive for a search for a soccer coach?
Sergeant Zip
Caleb Porter is at Zips soccer practice right now with a team meeting scheduled afterwards. Gates to the practice field were locked, chained and Beacon Journal was denied entry.
tbozeglav
Ampai just tweeted that he (porter) was leaving after the season. Sad, but about the best we can ask for in this situation.
g-mann17
What about Ken Lolla, it's obvious he wants to win a national championship and he will never be able to accomplish that were he is currently coaching.... Too soon?
Captain Kangaroo
What about Ken Lolla, it's obvious he wants to win a national championship and he will never be able to accomplish that were he is currently coaching.... Too soon? As Zach stated above, Lolla burned bridges as he left. UA would never consider him; and Lolla would never return.
bobbyake
When Lolla left, Akron tried extending his contract and matched Louisville's offer. I can't remember if he took a couple recruits with him as well. Here's the Lolla thread: http://zipsnation.org/forums//index.php?sh...t=0&start=

But, I wonder if they will build something that extensive for a search for a soccer coach? They've poured a lot of time, energy and money into this program. The community seems to love Akron soccer. Caleb Porter, however important he may be, is not Akron soccer. I would believe that they would conduct an extensive search to find the next coach. Only issue I can see is that it's not Cali or somewhere tropical, so location may be an issue.

meatwad
Just so no one is holding on to hope... the Athletic department has made calls to season ticket holders. Porter will be leaving but will in fact stay for the rest of the season. He won't be answering any questions about it was the impression given. Still plenty of time to get a replacement involved before CP leaves for Portland. Wish him all the best. Let's bring home another championship! g-mann17
A sad day, but we thought it was the end of the world when Lolla left and along came Porter. No one person is bigger than Akron Soccer, it will carry on, its winning tradition will stay strong, and it will develop more legends players and coaches.
