Zipmeister Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 I think the defense is going to play much better this week. The weather conditions (high of 69 F, 65% humidity) will allow the starters to be more effective, the youthful backups are starting to catch on to the system, and I believe their overall speed will become very evident in this matchup. Plus I think Coach Amato might have a few tricks up his sleave. Zips 42 Bears 14 My congratulations on getting the spread correct. Really looking forward to this Saturday. Quote
Wally B Posted September 14, 2012 Report Posted September 14, 2012 My congratulations on getting the spread correct. Really looking forward to this Saturday. I too lazy to link it toight, but I read on the mac board that Phil (my balls of) Steele has the Zips as 21 point favorites... I've got us by 8.... Either way, I'll take the WIN! GO ZIPS!!!! Quote
MDZip Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Nice way to come back for a touchdown on the first drive after losing one on a holding penalty. They just said Williams is only two TD's behind Matt Barkley. Man, I hate that we only get him for one year. Quote
akzipper Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Defense showed up to play today...oh yeah!!!! ...not Quote
MDZip Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 In honor of seeing Bruce Springsteen at Nationals Park last night, I deem Conor Hundley the "Wrecking Ball". :-) Quote
Zipmeister Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 I'm watching the gamecast on ESPN. I've never heard of a 25 yard personal foul penalty before. How'd that happen? Quote
dbbii Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 I like the play-by-play guy on ESPN3, but who is the color guy? Maybe he will say something other than a tired cliche. Quote

Dear NCAA, can we have Dalton Williams for 3 more years? Grant us a hardship waiver for having to deal with Ianello for 2 years. My hope is that his success is more a result of the system. Meaning that if we plug any similar QB into this offense and they can succeed. Quote

It gives me hope that DW was pushed so hard for the starting job by R-Frosh Kyle Pohl. Hopefully KP will step in next year keep things clicking. Quote
Sergeant Zip Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 George Thomas tweeted DW may have hurt his ribs. Quote
LZIp Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Defense showed up to play today...oh yeah!!!! ...not 6 points in 3 quarters. Id say they did alright. My take on the game (only stayed for 3 quarters). Overall great team effort, but there were still some things that need worked on. Im feeling pretty confident with this team come conference play. DW is light years better than Ole Miss or "#1 ranked Ohio high school QB". Glad we got him. Quote
UAZips Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 Think back to sometime in the past two years...what if someone from the future told you that in September of 2012, the Zips would put up over 700 yards of offense in one game? I don't care who it's against, this feels pretty good. Quote
Zipmeister Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 When was the last time the Zips had 14 guys catch passes in the same game? Quote
Dave in Green Posted September 15, 2012 Report Posted September 15, 2012 George Thomas tweeted DW may have hurt his ribs. I was watching through binoculars when the trainer gently pushed on DW's ribcage, and DW almost jumped out of his shoes. Watching DW later through binoculars again while he was sitting on the bench, he pushed on a teammate's ribs to show him where he had been hurt. Hopefully it's just a strain or serious bruising and not cracked or broken ribs. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 This board is dead. Zips fans must be in shock. Quote

Dave in Green Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 This board is dead. Zips fans must be in shock. Totally stunned by all the records set. Mid-American Conference mark for passing yards (565) and third-most offensive yards in league history with 753? Holy crap! Sure, Morgan State is FCS. But over the years a lot of MAC teams have beaten up on a lot of FCS teams without anywhere near the explosive offense the Zips unleashed today. And it could have been even more astounding without all the bizarre officiating calls. The Zips still have a way to go to be considered a strong MAC team. But what they showed today suggests that they are at least a decent MAC team right now. And after the last two seasons, that may be the most amazing thing of all. I believe in Coach Bowden. Quote
Zipsrifle Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Man, that felt good! I too am looking forward to MAC play. I expect a bit of shock in our fellow MAC opponents when they see what I have seen so far, a complete overhaul of this team. Not saying we're gonna roll through the conference, just that we're gonna be like the Zips I fell in love with back in the day. You may beat us, but you're gonna have to put up 56 points to do it! ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Stunning performance today. Stupendous. Truly. The Zips have a D too. And that D has a secondary. How is this being done with many of the same players that Ianello had? Quote

How is this being done with many of the same players that Ianello had? Could it be that we underestimated Ianello? Maybe he was the "great recruiter" everyone said he was once hired, but he didn't have the football sense to translate talent on the field? Just a thought. While I'm happy with the win, I just have to keep reminding myself that it was Morgan State. Even JD was able to beat them pretty good. I hope, if anything, it gives the team confidence and let them have some fun. God knows the players deserve it. I'm never one to encourage running up the score but after what all of these players went through. They deserved to score 100. With that being said I hope next week isn't too bad. Just be competitive and I will be happy. Quote

Kicker and DB are our two most disappointing positions currently. Quote
Roo Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 Don't know what you saw, but I saw a secondary that still got beat far too many times. Kicker and DB are our two most disappointing positions currently. The team won two games in two years for a reason....they aren't going to be deep in every position. But we have an offense that will hopefully help the defense a bit but putting points on the board. I wonder if attendance will start to tick up as the season goes on or if Akron will ignore what is going on down at the Info. Quote
