Zipgrad01
I think that I have seen enough and our record and offensive output recently supports my argument. It is time to put Kyle Pohl in the games and get him ready for next year.
zipsfan33
Well, its easy to say that after playing 3 straight games with good defenses who can stop the pass. gotta finish strong and we will see if this team can...it can only help them to do so. MaxZIP
Saw Dalton enjoying himself at the bars tonight. Play Phil to get experience. Dalton looked like crap today freaking out under preside and throwing into coverage multiple times. The zips offense looked good today despite the play at qb. Dr Z
I saw a lot of good coverage in the secondary yesterday by NI. I think a lot of bad things that happen to DW were the direct result of that. I noticed this somewhere near the second quarter and would have like to see a play calling adjustment. Our first down runs were too predictable yesterday. I think I jinxed us by writing "I think our offense can score on anybody." Now I'm concerned with the effectiveness of this offense in NEO weather. Lee Adams
Lot more wrong with this team than the QB. Its time to get Pohl playing time but not because of what Wiliiams is or isn't doing. its time to play him for next season. Akron is clearly not ready to compete with the better programs in the MAC. TB's offense looked good for awhile. But we are now seeing what decent defenses are doing to it. BGSU and NIU basically had the same formula. Yep its time to get Pohl and other underclassmen on both sides more playing time during the games. Maybe go to a two QB rotation. I don't like it either. But,TB sure as hell doesn't want to start next season with another QB who has had no meaningful minutes.
Dr Z
Now you know: "I'm not going to throw this season away. It's not time to bench seniors and play all young people. That's disrespectful of our players here who are trying so hard. They've been through a lot. They've been through three coaches and a lot of turnover. [The losing] is not their fault. So I have no desire to throw Pohl into the fire, although he's ready to go if somebody gets injured." Source: EA of PD

Something tells me that you read the title of the post and that's it. Dalton has been nothing but great for the Zips. The Zips record combined with the future are the only reason why a few Zip fans think it would benefit the team to play a younger QB. jupitertoo
It's clear that Bowden desperately wants (for good reason) to grab another victory or two. If he feels Williams gives him the best shot, by all means play him. Doubling or tripling the win total is an important signal to recruits that the program is moving in the right direction. CMU is winnable. So is UMASS.

Yep,Williams surprised with how he was able to step in and run the offense. He did what he could. Only thing I wish he could have done was run the ball to help keep defenses 'honest'. But he is not a runner. Generally no complaints about him. But,get some playing time for the underclassmen.
Captain Kangaroo
We need wins. If the underclassmen give us a better chance to win, they should play. Otherwise, they should sit, learn, work hard in the off season, and make their impact next year. I don't think Pohl gives us a better chance than Williams to win. Our receivers still won't get separation from quality DB's, and our OL will still get pushed back by stronger, fresher DL's as the game wears on. Bowden needs a win. The players need a win. I need a win. My son who's only seen 3 wins in the past 2.75 years...while K.e.n.t. State has SEVEN wins in the past 2 months...he needs to see a win. Win. The problem with the program right now is that there will be as many questions next year as this year.. Yes,it would be nice to beat a patsy like UMass and they should. Its possible(and ANYTHING is possible) that they pull the upset on the road and beat CMU. We lose a starting QB. We lose at least one very effective D-lineman. We lose a few on the O-line etc, etc. We lose some others on the D who may or may not be significant. The point being,at this juncture TB can't get enough wins this year to really serve any purpose. And, if you go into next season with a QB with no meaninful game experience throwing to essentially the same receiving corp or are trying to break in new people on a bad D,the prospects for next year aren't very good. This program has already lost most fans. If TB doesn't win some games early next year we will be staring at more empty seats in that wonderful facility that gets as many people for some HS games as it does for the Zips. Dave in Green
Coach Bowden said before the season started: "Our goal this year is to win one more game than last year." Failing to make even this modest goal would be a terrible way to start his first season at UA, and it would be terrible for the players and fans, as well. I don't care who's at QB as long as the Zips win at least one more game this season. I'm for whichever QB Coach Bowden believes gives the Zips their best chance of winning this season. There's plenty of time to worry about next season after this one is done and gone.
Lee Adams
I think we all know what he said. I think we all know what he wished for. 'The best laid plans....' What I have seen this year gives me the expectation that in maybe 2014 this program will be able to compete with the BEST teams in the MAC. That is going to take experience at key positions like QB,LB,OL,DL,...that isn't going to happen next year. And, this far into the season, unless this team runs off 3-4 wins to finish, its not going to make a difference for next season. We all want to see the program succeed. But,nobody wanst to sit through 3-4 win seasons for the next 2-3 years. The best MAC programs have buit and sustained for a number of years. Thats something Akron has not been able to do since the '70's.
Dave in Green
Lee, I completely understand the point about getting more game experience for the guy who is likely to be next season's starting QB, and it's a valid point. It's a tough call on what would be the biggest overall boost for the team going into next season. While there are valid points to be made on both sides, I think that the team delivering a second win this season is a little more important right now to the overall future situation than KP16 getting a little extra game experience this season. We have no talent now and this incoming class looks horrible. I don t see where the talent is coming from in order to play with the best by 2014.
